Chapter 152 A War Of Attrition
Primo sounded just as confused. “Yeah, that’s what’s weird. I don’t have any records of this in my storage, but that familiar feeling won’t go away. It’s almost like… I used to be part of it once.”
It was a wild guess. Margaret didn’t respond. She tucked the uneasy thought away for later.
By late afternoon, the exams wrapped up. The three left the Academy of Sciences and headed back to the villa in Cheiron’s hovercar.

The hovercar glided smoothly along the flight lanes. Cheiron set the autopilot from the driver’s seat, while Baar sat in the back with his eyes closed, resting.
Margaret leaned back against the passenger seat and pulled Primo into a private huddle.
“Primo, can you scan the toxin in Baar’s system?” she asked.
Primo snapped into work mode right away. “Running scan now… Host, even with my full current database, I can’t pin down the exact toxin composition. But it definitely carries the unique biological signature of insectoids.”
“So it’s most likely insectoid toxin.” Margaret frowned. “But if even the Academy of Sciences can’t detect it, there are only two explanations. Either the insectoids have made a massive evolutionary leap-or someone’s helping them develop this new poison.”
Primo agreed, “If it’s the second one, that’s terrifying. Insectoids don’t have high-level intelligence on their own. Only the Queen Insect and higher-ranked ones can think to any degree-the rest just kill on instinct. If someone’s working with them…”
Margaret couldn’t help but snort at how absurd it all was. “Give me a break-these interstellar beastmen are ridiculous. They’ve got all this advanced tech, mechs flying everywhere, and they’ve been fighting a bunch of brainless giant bugs for hundreds of years? And they still haven’t finished them off? What, are they grinding for XP or something?”
Primo hurried to set the record straight. “Host, you’re making the insectoids sound way simpler than they are. The Queen Insect builds her nest deep in space, in high-pollution radiation zones. Most beastmen Would
get contaminated, fly into a feral rage, and die before they even get close to the core area.”
“On top of that…” Primo’s voice turned serious. “As long as the Queen Insect is alive, she can hatch thousands of worker and soldier bugs every single day. This is a war of attrition, plain and simple.” single day.
Margaret fell quiet, turning the information over in her head,
High-pollution zones. Feral rages. Reproductive capacity.
How did Kiran a regular beastman-get his hands on this new kind of insectoid toxin?
When they pushed open the villa’s front door, a heavy, tense atmosphere hit them square in the face.
Timothy sat on the main sofa in the center of the room, arms crossed, chin tilted high in the air.
Across from him sat two other males-Tyrone and Quentin, the twin brothers from the black market.

Tyrone wore a linen shirt. He sipped slowly from a mug of coffee, looking completely relaxed. Beside him, Quentin was dressed head to toe in black combat gear. His back was ramrod straight, and every inch of him radiated a cold, unapproachable sharpness.

Baar didn’t even bother taking off his coat. He strode straight over and dropped into an armchair next to Tyrone and Quentin, his full aura flaring to life.
Cheiron took his time changing his shoes. He glanced around the living room once and said nothing.

Margaret slipped on her slippers, walked over to the empty seat next to Timothy, and sat down. She grabbed a piece of fruit, took a bite, and settled in to watch the show.

“You two look unfamiliar.” Baar struck first, his golden slit eyes locking onto the pair across from him.
Tyrone set down his coffee mug and looked over with a smooth smile. He was a pro at reading people— he’d figured out exactly who Baar was in a single glance.
“Commander Iverson, I’ve heard a lot about you.” Tyrone gave a small nod, his tone casual and familiar. “When we ran that little antique shop out in the fringe galaxies, we heard plenty of stories about your reputation. Seeing you in person? You definitely live up to the hype.”
It was a smooth line, but Baar wasn’t buying it. He snorted and leaned forward, rolling off a wave of pure, heavy pressure.
