The five of them burst through the palace gates. Timothy’s hovercar was already waiting right outside.
The door slid open. Timothy pulled Margaret inside in one quick motion, his blue eyes scanning her up and down repeatedly. “My Lady, you’re not hurt, are you?”
“I’m fine.” Margaret slid into the back seat.
The hovercar lifted off and sped away from the palace.
The car went dead quiet,
Margaret pulled the micro recorder off her collar and tossed it to Timothy. “Everything’s on here. Greven’s dead. The rest is up to you.”
Timothy caught the recorder and plugged it straight into his Holo-bracelet.
A few minutes later, he looked up with a wide grin.
“Ten minutes,” Timothy said. “By then, Greven’s confession will lead every Starnet feed galaxy-wide. He won’t just go down as a maniac who ran live experiments. He’ll be labeled a criminal who tried to murder nobles and start a war.”
“The public backlash won’t be easy to contain.” Cheiron pushed up his cracked glasses, his tone calm. “Greven was the Empire’s first heir. Even with the video proof, the old hardliners in the Imperial Household won’t let this go. They’ll call it straight-up murder.”
“So what?” Baar leaned back in his seat with a cold smirk. “I’m the one who got her out. Let them come to the Federation and try to take her back if they’ve got the guts.”
“No. You didn’t take me anywhere,” Margaret spoke up. “Officially, Margaret was kidnapped by black market operatives.”
Tyrone, in the passenger seat, froze for half a second, then caught on immediately. Amusement flickered in his green eyes,
“Ms. Greene, you really know how to pass the buck. But this is overtime, yeah?” He turned and tapped Quentin on the shoulder in the driver’s seat. “Send the signal. Have the starship meet us at the rendezvous: point. We’ve been married’ long enough-time we brought our wife home to meet the crew.”
Quentin didn’t say a word. He just nodded silently. The hovercar cut a faint streak through the night and merged straight into the high-altitude main lane,
The atmosphere in the back seat turned ice-cold.
“You two work for the black market?” Baar’s voice was low and dangerous, and the air in the car felt colder by the second. He stared at the back of their heads, his hand already resting on the gun at his hip.
He’d suspected Tyrone and Quentin were hiding something this whole time, but he’d never had solid proof. Hearing the words “black market” and “married” sent his temper flaring instantly.

“Margaret, you’re actually going with them?” Baar turned to confront her, his golden eyes blazing with
anger.
“What else? Stay here and let the Royal Guards riddle me with bullets?” Margaret leaned back against the seat. “The video Timothy’s about to post has Greven’s confession-and the full, uncut footage of me cutting him down. You think those old bastards in the Empire will stop to think things through first? Or will they come straight for me?”
Baar gritted his teeth. “I can take you back to the Federation.”
Tyrone let out a soft laugh, his tone lazy and matter-of-fact. “If the Federation’s commander gets caught luding the Empire’s number one wanted criminal, the Federation and the Empire will be at war by tomorrow morning. Commander Iverson, are you that bored with interstellar peace?”
Baar had no comeback. The veins on the back of his hand bulged, and the safety on his gun clicked softly.
Margaret put her hand on Baar’s wrist and pushed the gun back down.
She said, “He’s right. With Greven dead, the Empire will lash out of their stupid pride. The black market operates outside the law-they can handle the warrant. And since this is officially a ‘kidnapping, the Imperial Household can’t use this as an excuse to come after the Federation.”
Timothy spoke up mid-typing on his Holo-bracelet, his blue eyes sharp with stubbornness, “Wherever My Lady goes, I go. The Hurst Group’s private starship is docked at the port. We can all leave together.”
“No.” Margaret shut him down immediately.
Timothy’s fingers froze on the keyboard. He looked over at her, clearly hurt.
“There were no survivors in that palace lab.” Margaret laid out the situation clearly and calmly. “All the security footage is destroyed, too. No one saw either of you go inside. You weren’t even on the banquet guest list tonight. If you stick to your story and say you never went near the place, the Imperial Household has no proof to arrest you.”
She looked over at Baar, her voice softening a little. “You two are my backup. If you stay on Prime Planet, you can keep the Imperial Household in check and control the narrative. If you run away with me, it’ll look like we were all in on this together. And if Greven somehow gets his name cleared? All this work was for nothing.
Baar’s jaw was tight. He knew Margaret was right-this was the smartest move. But it still made him furious.
