The hovercar shot through the streets, weaving past patrols, and pulled up silently behind the villa.

“You’ve got twenty minutes.” Tyrone leaned against the car door and glanced at his Holo-bracelet. “In twenty minutes, the Royal Guards will have the entire city on lockdown.”

Margaret nodded and headed straight upstairs.

Pushing open her bedroom door, she didn’t rush for her clothes. Instead, she turned and waved Baar over –he’d followed her up the stairs. “Come in.”

Baar stood in the doorway. his large frame blocking most of the hall light. He stepped inside scowling and pulled the door shut behind him.

The room’s main lights were off. Only moonlight spilled through the window.

What else do you need to say?” Baar’s tone was sharp, edged with an irritation he didn’t even notice himself. Leaving me and the kid to clean up your mess on Prime Planet, while you run off messing around with those two pretty black market boys?”

Margaret ignored his snarky remarks. She walked over to the desk and pulled the clear vial out from the lining of her coat.

The liquid glowed faintly in the dim room-it looked like some kind of bioluminescent deep-sea algae.

“Open your mouth. Margaret stepped right in front of him.

Baar stared down at the unknown liquid and didn’t move. “What is this?”

“Swiped it from Greven’s lab.” Margaret lied straight-faced. “The packaging looked fancy, so I figured it must be something good.”

Baar huffed a laugh. “You want me to drink something you grabbed from his lab? You’re trying to kill your own husband?”

“Yep. Margaret shot back. “If you’re dead, I won’t have to listen to you complain all the time.”

Baar held her gaze for a beat, then leaned down and drained the vial straight from her hand. So fast Margaret barely blinked.

“You actually drank it?” Margaret tucked the empty vial away and tossed it in the trash can.

“If you gave it to me, even poison’s fine by me.” Baar flicked his tongue over his lip.

A strange, cool tingle spread through his mouth. Seconds later, the cold sensation traveled down his throat and seeped into every part of his body. The sharp, constant pain gnawing at his spiritual realm vanished instantly.

Baar’s eyes went wide.

“You-” Baar’s Adam’s apple bobbed. His voice was rough and thick.

Margaret smiled, “Once I leave, no one’s gonna be around to do spiritual soothing for you. If you fly into a frenzy and die on Prime Planet, where am I gonna find another free enforcer?”

Baar knew she didn’t want to talk about where the antidote came from, so he didn’t ask.

All he knew was this—even running for her life, Margaret had still cared enough to fix the poison inside him. A strange, warm rush hit him out of nowhere.

Baar took one step forward. He cupped the back of her head with one hand and leaned down, pressing his lips to hers.

It was rough and possessive-fierce, unyielding, swallowing every word before it left her lips. His tongue pushed inside, hungry and demanding, like he wanted to devour her whole. Beneath it all lay fear, too—a quiet terror of losing her.

Margaret tried to pull back once, but she couldn’t break free. Baar was impossibly strong. His arm locked tight around her waist.

She stopped fighting. She even tilted her head up and kissed him back, just a little.

That small, soft move completely threw Baar’s breathing off rhythm.

After a long moment, Baar pulled back. He pressed his forehead to hers, his chest heaving hard.

He murmured, “Once I wrap things up here, I’ll come to the black market and get you. Wait for me.”

Baar let go of her and turned toward the closet. “Go splash some water on your face. I’ll grab your bags.”

Margaret watched his broad back and smiled to herself.

Twenty minutes later, out in the empty lot near the villa, a small, unmarked pitch-black starship was already warming up.

Timothy stood by the ship’s hatch, watching Margaret walk over with a pleading look on his face.

“My Lady.” Timothy stepped forward and pressed a small comms device into her hand. “This is the Hurst Group’s top-level access key. No matter where you are in the galaxy, if you have a signal, you can access all. the Hurst Group’s funds and dark web resources.”

Margaret took the comms and ruffled his golden hair. “Win the PR war on Prime Planet. Don’t let killing that guy go to waste.”

Timothy nodded hard. “Relax. In ten minutes, Greven’s scandal will be all over Starnet. The Imperial PR team won’t sleep tonight.”
