Chapter 198 We’re Family
Chapter 198 We’re Family
Margaret listened and zeroed in on the key point right away.
“The Empire’s Information Regulation Bureau doesn’t pull its punches.” She fixed Timothy with a sharp look. “How much money have you burned pulling this stunt?”
On the screen, Timothy scratched his head, totally casual about the whole thing. “Not that much. Just the Hurst Group’s net profits for the past two years, basically. Mom also transferred 72% of her personal assets to my account. We’ve got more than enough funding to keep this going.”
Margaret froze,
She’d known Timothy would help, but she’d never expected him to go all in like this-bet the entire farm on her. Two years of the Hurst Group’s profits, plus 72% of the galaxy’s richest man’s personal fortune- that kind of money could easily buy out entire star systems.
Margaret opened her mouth, but no words came out.
She was always quick with a comeback, but right now, she couldn’t find the right thing to say. She’d always been the type-if someone gave her a candy, she’d have to pay them back with a whole apple just to feel like she’d squared things up.
Now Timothy and Eileen-a woman she’d never even met-were staking their entire fortune and future on her.
That kind of unreserved loyalty felt heavy, almost too heavy to hold.
“Are you out of your mind?” It was the only thing she could think to say, after a long beat of silence.
“It’s a strategic investment.” Timothy grinned, as if those sums of money didn’t even register with him. “We can always make more money. You know how fast the Hurst Group turns a profit. You don’t have to worry about that.”
Margaret looked at the blond man on the screen. There was none of that penny-pinching, calculating edge most businessmen had-just open, unguarded sincerity.”
“Thank you.” Her voice was quiet, but completely sincere.
Timothy’s smile faded, He leaned in closer to the screen, his blue eyes locked on hers, steady and unblinking. “My Lady, you don’t have to keep score with us. Mom doesn’t need it. And I definitely don’t.”
It was a rare, soft moment. Something tugged at Margaret’s chest—a tight, warm ache, soft and heavy all at
once.
The next second, Timothy switched gears, that cheeky, shameless grin sliding back onto his face. “But hey, if you really wanna thank me? When I get back, can you add an extra bed in your room? I’m sick of crashing on the couch. It’s too short. My legs hang off the end.”
Margaret blinked.
Before she could retort, a long-fingered hand reached into the frame.

The holographic screen went dark instantly, Only the slow-drifting pulse light from the console remained, casting faint blue glows across all three of their faces.
Tyrone leaned against the edge of the console, clearly amused by the whole thing, and huffed a quiet laugh. Margaret shot him a glare and stood up to head out.
The floating platform carried all three back up to ground level. The stone well cover slid shut automatically behind them, the moss seams sealing back together. From the outside, it looked just like any other abandoned old well again.
On the walk back, Tyrone had the sense to stay up ahead, giving the two of them space. Cheiron walked at Margaret’s side, keeping his pace slow and unhurried.
“Weighing on you?” Cheiron spoke up suddenly. His voice was steady and soft, standing out clear and sharp in the quiet of the night.
Margaret stopped walking. She didn’t deny it.
“I’ve always hated owing people things.” She stared down at the flagstone path beneath their feet. “Money, favors, even lives. The bigger the debt, the harder it is to pay back.”
She was used to handling everything on her own, used to pushing everyone away.
Now all of a sudden, a whole group of people were stepping in front of her. They asked no questions, thought no price too high, spending freely and taking hits for her. It was more than she knew how to handle.
Cheiron turned to face her.
He knew how Margaret worked-tough as nails on the surface, but soft, so soft, underneath it all.
“This isn’t a transaction.” Cheiron’s voice was steady, grounded. “They just made a choice. To stand with
you.”
He paused for a beat, then added, clear and firm, “So did we.”
Margaret looked up at him.
“You don’t have to figure out how to pay us all back.” Cheiron held her gaze, open and unflinching, his attention fully on her. “Just let us be here. Keep moving forward, at your own pace. We’re not standing beside you to weigh you down. We’re here to make sure you’ve got all the chips you need when you flip the whole board.”
He reached out and laced his fingers through hers, holding on tight-no more polite distance, no more holding back.
“Stop treating us like outsiders, Margaret.” Cheiron’s voice dropped to a low, quiet murmur. “We’re family.”
