This wasn’t a drill. Baar was issuing a blatant threat, making sure Prime Planet’s civilians stayed safe, and giving the Federation the moral high ground all at once.

The four men had covered every angle. There was nothing left to do.

This has been a satisfying game.” Margaret lifted her glass toward the group. “Good work, all of you.”

Tyrone raised his own with a grin and clinked it against hers. “As long as you’re pleased, Ms. Greene.”

Cheiron joined the toast, the crisp clink of glasses marking the moment.

Quentin didn’t reach for his cup. He used the tongs to place the last piece of grilled meat onto Margaret’s empty plate instead. “Eat more. You’re too thin.”

Just like that, the tension of everything they’d orchestrated dissolved.

Tyrone rolled his eyes at his brother, thoroughly exasperated by his total lack of romantic bone.

Margaret looked at the meat on her plate, then at Quentin’s impassive profile. She picked up her fork and

ate.

Primo was exploding with pink bubbles in her head. “Wow! Quentin really knows how to do this! The quiet, doting type who shows his care through food-who can resist that?”

After breakfast, Tyrone headed down to the underground comms room to track the latest intelligence. Cheiron returned to his room to keep patching the gaps in the medical data, making sure Lesley’s people wouldn’t find any holes.

It was afternoon by the time Tyrone emerged with an update.

“Those three old cabinet ministers got away.” He poured himself a glass of water and drank. “They took their remaining forces, broke through the city cordon, and seized three starships from the starport. They’re off Prime Planet.”

“Where did they go?” Margaret asked.

“The Chaos Sectors.” A sly glint flickered through Tyrone’s green eyes. “I’ve already got people in position there, waiting. The moment they land, we strip them clean-every last credit, every weapon. No sense letting good assets go to waste,”

Margaret let out a quiet laugh.

This man would squeeze profit out of a stone if he could.

“And Lesley?” she asked.

Vomited blood several times and lost consciousness completely.” Tyrone shrugged. “The medical team is doing everything they can to revive her. But she was already clinging to life in that sickbed. Now that the Erosion Herb’s toxicity has fully activated, she doesn’t have long.”

The supreme ruler of the Empire was on the verge of death. And the people who had engineered her

“Let Baar know,” Margaret stood and brushed off her clothes, though there wasn’t a speck of dust on them, “The show’s gone on long enough. He can send people to make contact with those escaped ministers. The enemy of my enemy is a useful ally. The Federation needs them to keep stirring up trouble inside the Empire.”

Tyrone gave her an easy OK sign. “Understood.”

Margaret turned and headed back to her room.

The next morning, early sunlight filtered through the leaves and onto the table.

Cheiron’s fingers tapped across his Holo-bracelet, erasing the last traces of data. He shut off the screen and picked up his coffee.

“The situation on Prime Planet has largely stabilized.” He looked up at Margaret as she stepped through the doorway. “I need to go back.”

Margaret had just reached for a nut from the bowl on the table. Her hand stopped mid-motion.

“Go back to wrap things up?” She frowned slightly, her tone carrying clear disapproval. “You’re a wanted fugitive right now, same as me. Prime Planet is under full martial law. Walking back in there is asking to be caught.”

A trace of pleasure flickered deep in Cheiron’s gray eyes as he watched her brow furrow.

She’s worried about me..

“Don’t worry. I’ll take a covert route.” His voice was warm. “Besides, what Lesley needs most right now is a top-tier physician who can interpret her medical files and keep her alive. The moment I let it slip that I have an inhibitor capable of slowing the Erosion Herb’s toxicity, she won’t be arresting me. She’ll be sending a royal envoy to escort me to the palace with full honors.”

He held her gaze, his expression measured. “Without me at the hospital, the researchers under me won’t hold up under interrogation. The old archive tampering needs me to cover it in person. And while I’m there, I can keep Lesley breathing just long enough to give you time to negotiate.”

Margaret popped the shelled nut into her mouth and bit down with a sharp crunch.

His plan was flawless. She knew that. But forging Imperial medical records and walking straight into the lion’s den was dangerous, no matter how airtight the logic, Cheiron presented himself with all the calm of a scholar, but underneath it, he was a gambler willing to stake his own life.

Be careful.” Margaret stood.
