Timothy’s gaze swept frantically across the screen before locking onto Margaret at the table. His eyes went red-rimmed in the space of a heartbeat.
“My Lady..” His voice was raw, wrecked, thick with tears. The misery in it was unmistakable.
Margaret set down her spoon. Something in her chest tightened at the sight of him.
She meant to say something comforting, but her mouth moved faster than her brain. “Why are you crying? I’m not dead.”
“Don’t say that word!” Timothy’s composure shattered. Tears spilled freely, streaming down his face without any attempt to hide them. “Do you have any idea what these past few days have been like? I couldn’t find you. The tracker was dead. Those useless black-market bastards took my money and couldn’t even give me coordinates! I pulled every string 1 had! Cheiron kept telling me to stay calm-how was I supposed to stay calm? I almost blew up the Prime Planet starport!”
His voice shook harder with every word, his nose flushed red.
“Blowing up a starport is illegal.” She pulled a napkin from the table and wiped her mouth unhurriedly. But her voice came out softer than she’d intended. “Eileen just got me on board. I’m fine.”
Timothy sucked in a sharp breath, trying desperately to stop the tears. It didn’t work.
He turned on Eileen. “Mom! You found Margaret and didn’t tell me right away?”
“What would you have done? That junk heap of a ship can’t handle Q-990’s magnetic storms.” Eileen skewered him without mercy, her coffee cup poised with perfect elegance. “Enough. She’s safe. You stay put on Prime Planet.”
“I’m coming to meet you!”
“Shut it. We’re already heading to Prime Planet,” Eileen cut him off flat, her tone snapping into business mode, “Cheiron sent word-he’s sitting on Lesley’s medical reports. The Cabinet’s in chaos without a head. Tighten the Hurst Group’s entire financial chain on Prine Planet over the next few days. Squeeze them. The Empire’s about to change hands. If any of them start dumping stock or offloading assets at fire-sale prices, I want you to buy them up immediately. Understood?”
Margaret paused mid-bite, her spoon hovering. She glanced at Eileen with something closer to respect.
Even at a moment like this, Eileen’s instinct for profit was razor-sharp. Where others saw political collapse, she saw a window for capital restructuring.
If Eileen was on her side when she took the Empire, the economy wouldn’t just recover-it might actually come out stronger.
Timothy scrubbed his sleeve across his face and sniffed hard. Tears aside, the moment the conversation shifted to real business, a sharp glint cut through the red in his eyes.
“I already tightened the capital chain. They’ll start panicking in the next couple of days.” He rattled off the data, then his gaze drifted back and his voice dropped, careful and small. “My Lady, are you hurt?”

“No. Quentin and Tyrone… they saved me, Margaret said.
At the twins’ name, Timothy’s mouth tugged downward, but for once, no jealousy followed.

“I guess they were useful for something.” The words came out sullen. “Get some rest. I’ll be waiting for you on Prime Planet.”
It took both Margaret and Eileen taking turns to reassure him before he finally, reluctantly, ended the call.
Margaret had just picked up her fork to spear the last bite when the holographic screen flared to life again.
No ringtone this time. A red, highest-clearance override symbol pulsed across the display. The system had been forcibly accessed. It was Baar.
Eileen set down her coffee, unhurried. “I gave Commander Iverson a heads-up in advance. Just in case you didn’t make it back before he leveled the Empire.”
Margaret shot her a look, then nodded.
Baar’s holographic form materialized in the room. He was in full Federation dress uniform, the stars on his epaulettes gleaming cold. Behind him stretched the First Fleet’s main command center, tactical panels scrolling with live data.
His eyes cut past everything else in the room and locked onto Margaret.
