Timothy brightened immediately, the hurt in his eyes gone in a blink. He leaned in, kissed Margaret on the cheek, and left a damp, sweaty smudge behind.

“Thank you, My Lady! I’ll go right now!”

Margaret shook her head, watching him bolt into the house.

When she turned around, Cheiron was already standing behind the glass door. He held a cup of black coffee, and behind his gold-rimmed glasses, his gray eyes were perfectly calm.

“He knows exactly how to work you.” Cheiron took a sip, his tone so even it revealed nothing at all.

Margaret dried her hands. “He’s just young. A little reassurance goes a long way.”

Cheiron set his cup down and walked over to her. He stood a full head taller, and when he tilted his head down, the edge of his glasses caught the light. “You’re always indulgent with them.” His voice was very quiet

“Let’s go.” Margaret sidestepped the comment and the subject both. “We’re heading to the Academy of Sciences. That classified file-it unlocks today.”

Something shifted in Cheiron’s gray eyes. He stepped back without protest. “Alright.”

Cheiron understood restraint. He knew pushing too hard would only cost him ground. Margaret responded to a soft touch, not a hard shove. Timothy’s brand of open, needy charm worked for him, but it wasn’t his style. He had his own cards to play.

The hovercar pulled smoothly out of the villa. Margaret leaned back in the passenger seat and pulled up her Holo-bracelet interface.

Timothy didn’t waste a second. The money the Hurst Group had poured in was already doing its job. On Starnet, the storyline about Margaret seizing power had been buried, replaced by a flood of glowing coverage around the young emperor’s coronation.

More importantly, Margaret’s dual identity had been officially registered in the Central Brain. She was now both Imperial Regent and Special Advisor to the Federal Military Council.

Either one of those titles alone was enough to make every faction in the galaxy think twice. She held them both.

“Any movement from Darien?” Margaret shut off the screen.

Cheiron kept both hands on the wheel, eyes ahead. “The Cabinet held an emergency session this morning. Darien proposed forming a Regency Council-an attempt to fracture your authority. Gideon called in sick. Several of the old-blood nobles are still waiting to see which way the wind blows.”

“Old vultures,” Margaret scoffed. “They won’t move until they smell blood in the water.”

“They’re afraid of what you’re holding. Baar’s movements last night were discreet, but the military couldn’t be completely in the dark. They probably think he came to discuss troop deployments with you.”

Margaret said nothing. She raised an eyebrow.

The hovercar descended into the underground garage of the Academy of Sciences. This was the Empire’s research stronghold. The security clearance here was higher than that of the cabinet building.

The two of them headed straight for Cheiron’s office. The researchers they passed froze the moment they recognized them, bowing low and not lifting their heads until Margaret and Cheiron had gone by.

Cheiron unlocked the door with a biometric scan. The moment it closed behind them, he pressed a button on the wall. A low hum filled the room as the anti-surveillance barrier engaged.

“It’s secure.” Cheiron stepped behind his desk, fingers moving through the air, pulling up Central Brain’s root control interface.

An encrypted data package materialized in midair, its surface wrapped in strings of flickering red code.

Margaret and Cheiron had tried cracking this file countless times, but the final lock had never budged. The access conditions were incredibly stringent: simultaneous verification from two high-level authorities.

“Ready?” Cheiron stepped aside.

Margaret moved forward.

The system’s synthesized voice echoed through the room, “Requesting access to SSS-class classified file. Verify identity of First Authority,”

Margaret pressed her right palm against the scanner. A blue beam swept across her retina.

“Biometric match confirmed.

“Identity confirmed: Imperial Regent, Margaret Greene. Clearance level: SSS.

“First authority verification passed.

“Verify identity of Second Authority.”

Margaret didn’t move. She simply stood where she was.

The system paused, recalibrated, then initiated the scan again.

“Biometric match confirmed.

“Identity confirmed: Special Advisor to the Federal Military Council, Margaret Greene, Clearance level: SSS.

“Second authority verification passed.”
