“Command received. Initiation of separation protocol,” a mechanical voice announced.

A sharp, piercing pain lanced through the deepest recesses of Margaret’s brain. It felt like an impossibly fine needle driving into a nerve ending, then being yanked outward with brutal force.

She let out a muffled grunt, her body swaying unsteadily.

Cheiron instantly caught her by the shoulders, pulling her halfway into the shelter of his arms.

“Margaret.” Cheiron’s voice was tight, the muscles in his arms taut. His breathing hitched.

“I’m fine.” Margaret steadied herself against his support. Though her face had paled several shades, her gaze remained clear and alert.

The stabbing sensation intensified. The familiar System Space that had been part of her consciousness for years was crumbling away piece by piece. The familiar storefront interface, the item slots, the credit balance-all dissolving into particles of light.

Primo was silent, pouring all its focus into cooperating with the Central Brain’s extraction.

On the worktable, the silver-white “Phantom” unit began to tremble violently.

The cables attached to it blazed with a piercing blue light. A torrential stream of data flooded through Central Brain’s channels into the quantum chip.

Sion watched the figures on his monitor, sweat beading on his forehead. “Processing power has exceeded the critical threshold! The data volume is insane. Chip temperature is spiking rapidly!”

He immediately slammed several red buttons. A deluge of liquid nitrogen was sprayed onto the unit, enveloping the entire worktable in a thick, white cloud of freezing vapor.

The separation process lasted five minutes.

When the final trace of pain faded from her mind, Margaret was left with a profound sense of emptiness.

That ever-chattering voice was gone,

The System Space was permanently sealed.

Her last tangible connection to that dimension had been physically severed.

Silence settled over the laboratory, broken only by the steady hum of the cooling systems,

The white fog of cold gradually dissipated.

On the worktable, the silver-white unit lay perfectly still.

Margaret pushed away from Cheiron’s support and walked over to the table.

She looked at the smooth, featureless holographic screen and rapped her knuckles twice against the metal

chassis.

The unit gave no response.

Sion rushed over nervously. “That shouldn’t be. The data stream completed injection, and the chip is operating normally. Why isn’t it responding?”

Cheiron stood behind Margaret, watching the unit, ready for any sudden developments.

Sion reached out to check the connection ports.

With a beep, the holographic screen on the unit’s face lit up.

A massive, brazenly smug smiley face appeared on it: (<<).

Mechanical joints whirred and ground as the unit sat bolt upright in one stiff, rapid motion.

It turned its head, the screen with its grinning kaomoji now aimed directly at Margaret.

A voice, both familiar yet tinged with a new metallic resonance, issued from the unit’s vocal synthesizer. “Host! I’m alive! I’ve got a body!”

Primo sat on the worktable, waving its arms around excitedly, looking left and right. Then the screen swapped to a smug, self-satisfied expression: (-■_■)

“Quick! Get me a mirror! I gotta see this gorgeous figure of mine!”

The faint trace of loss Margaret had felt from the separation evaporated entirely.

“No mirror. Your particle cannon and laser eyes still need Mr. Sion Jewett to install them,” Margaret said, pointing at its arms.

Primo turned its screen toward Sion, swapping to a pair of sparkling eyes: (Ow).

“Old man, hurry up! Load me up! I want the most firepower you’ve got!”

Sion, utterly captivated by the Al’s intensely human-like personality, rubbed his hands together in excitement. “Yes! Yes! Right away! I’ll go pull top-level clearance for the armory right now!”

Primo nodded in satisfaction, then shifted its gaze-or rather, its screen-toward Cheiron.

The expression morphed into one of blatant disdain; (_).

“What’re you lookin’ at, Jealousy King? From now on, I’m handling the Host’s daily needs. Find fewer excuses to hang around,” Primo taunted, emboldened by its new physical form.

Cheiron’s expression didn’t change. He regarded the newly awakened unit, his tone gentle yet lethally effective.

“If you’re in charge of daily needs, then the villa’s cleaning and lawn maintenance are now your responsibilities. After all, you don’t require rest.”
