Lucky for her, right before Phoebe could get within spitting distance, a silver grey hover car pulled out from the garage direction and stopped as smooth as butter right in front of her. The door slid open automatically.
Cheiron sat in the driver’s seat, turning his head to look at her. His tone was calm. “Get in.”
Margaret ducked and slipped inside like a dart.
Before the door even had time to close, Phoebe’s voice floated over, all syrupy sweet. “Margaret….”
Margaret’s lip twitched. She yanked the door shut hard.
Cheiron glanced outside through the window, then looked at Margaret. A flicker of confusion in his voice. “She’s calling you?”
Margaret didn’t even turn her head. “Don’t know her. Just go!”
Cheiron’s gaze swept past the window again, landing on that pale pink figure getting closer. His brow furrowed slightly, as if he recognized her.
Then he closed the door. The hover car accelerated smoothly, leaving the still shouting figure behind in the dust.
Margaret slumped back against her seat and let out a long breath.
“God, she’s exhausting,” she muttered.
Cheiron didn’t say anything. He just kept his eyes on the road and drove.
The hover car left the residential district and moved into the heart of the Prime Planet.
Margaret leaned against her seat, watching the scenery blur past the window. Gotta hand it to this world, it was way more advanced than her old one. Not a speck of dust on the roads. Buildings rose in neat, staggered rows. Above them, flight lanes crisscrossed in perfect order, filled with all kinds of hover cars zipping around, plus small aircraft. It was like a three-dimensional traffic web.
But there was not much color. Sure, there were the occasional little flower beds with a touch of green, but they were few and far between.
The further they went into the central district, the more the architecture changed. Buildings got weirder and weirder. Some looked like giant crystal balls, Some looked like interlocking rings. There was even one that looked like a cube just floating in midair,
Margaret’s eyes went wide,
A few minutes later, a massive building came into view,
Margaret figured this had to be the Academy of Sciences. The shape was just too wild to be anything else. Irregular, hard to describe, but somehow all of it fit together in a way that looked like it hadn’t been designed at all, as it had just grown that way naturally. And on top of everything, the surface was covered in a layer of flowing, shimmering light that moved like it had a mind of its own, gliding around the

“The Academy of Sciences.” Primo’s voice echoed in her head. “The top research institution on the Prime Planet. The most cutting-edge tech in the whole Interstellar Era is right here.”
Cheiron slowed the hover car down and steered toward the building. As they got closer, Margaret noticed a barely visible entrance at the base that looked like a garage entrance. Cheiron didn’t hesitate. He drove right in.
The tunnel was pitch black at first, but the second they entered, lights flickered on everywhere. Bright but not blinding, they illuminated a spacious underground parking lot. And then came the really cool part. A green light strip appeared on the ground, snaking out from the entrance, leading all the way forward to point at one specific parking spot.
Margaret watched the green light and blurted out, “Well, that’s convenient.”
Cheiron didn’t say anything. He just followed the green light and pulled perfectly into the spot.
The second the car stopped, a mechanical voice rang out, polite and respectful. “Welcome, Academician Cheiron Jewett.”
Margaret raised an eyebrow at Cheiron.
