The good mood from that sixty thousand credit subsidy had mostly evaporated in an instant.

“Host…” Primo had caught sight of the email too. It fell silent for a moment, then released a sigh, its voice laced with defeat. “When are we ever going to actually get out there and explore the world…”

But it perked up again quickly, asking, “Host, do you think Cheiron’s on the list?”

Across the entire Interstellar Era, there were fewer than ten 3S-class males. Even fewer of them were of marriageable age. Chances were pretty good he’d be on that list.

Margaret, however, kept her mouth shut.

Just then, the scrape of a chair sliding across the floor came from behind the desk. Cheiron closed the folder in front of him and rose to his feet.

“Time to head out.”

Margaret met his gaze.

“You look pale.” Cheiron walked over and stopped by the couch, looking down at her.

Margaret shrank back a little. Not to get away from him, just because he was standing way too close. She had to crane her neck to see his face, and it was making her sore.

“I’m fine. Just got an email.” She waved her Holo-bracelet.

Cheiron didn’t ask what email. He just nodded and turned toward the door..

Margaret got up from the couch and followed him out.

When Margaret opened her eyes, the bedroom was still dark. She lay there for a few seconds, then reached for her bedside. The Holo-bracelet screen lit up. 6:12 AM.

slept wel

No alarm. She’d woken up on her own. Truth was, she hadn’t slept well. Ever since she’d lain down, that email had been playing on a loop in her head.

Five 38-class male matches. What if, among those 38-class candidates, there was someone with a bad temper, or a controlling personality, or someone like Ardon…

“Host, you’re spiraling again.” Primo’s voice floated softly.

“I’m not.”

“Your heart rate is up eighteen percent.

“Shut up.”

Aside from Cheiron and possibly Baar, the other three candidates were complete unknowns. Whatever. She’d cross that bridge when she got to it. She’d been isekai’d twice already. No way she was gonna let a few

names scare her.

She let out a sigh, then something occurred to her,

“Hey, Primo. Where are we in the plot right now? At this point in the original story, what were Phoebe and those so-called three exes up to?”

“I know this one!” Primo perked up. “In the original timeline, around now, Raikes, Kiran, and Ardon were helping Phoebe quietly dissolve her existing three marriages.”

“Dissolve? How?”

“Raikes and the others used some… not so clean methods. They got Phoebe’s three A-class beastman husbands thrown in prison!”

Margaret’s brow furrowed.

“Wait a second. Multiple husbands aren’t illegal in this world. Why would they do that?”

“The reason in the original story was that those three A-class males were doing everything they could to block Raikes and the others from getting close to Phoebe. But looking at it now… Phoebe probably wanted out of those three marriages herself a long time ago. She just didn’t want to get her own hands dirty, so she found a way to make Raikes and the others handle it.”

“Pfft!” Margaret laughed at Primo’s thorough analysis. “Primo, look at you getting all clever.”

“Of course! Phoebe never looked like a good person. She makes the males do all the dirty work while she plays the innocent show. And Raikes and the others used some pretty nasty methods too. Forged evidence, framed them, sent three innocent A-class males who had no idea what was happening to prison…”

Margaret went quiet.

Ardon’s face flashed through her mind, jabbing a finger at her in the hallway yesterday, screaming, “What can you even do besides latch onto men and mooch off them?”

“Ardon is something else.” She let out a cold laugh. “He spent yesterday yelling at me about relying on men. But Phoebe bats her eyelashes, and they’re out here doing all her grunt work.”

“Yeah?” Primo said.

“What do you mean ‘yeah? That’s exactly what’s happening.”

Margaret rolled over. She didn’t want to think about Phoebe’s mess anymore,

She pulled up her Holo-bracelet and opened her email. She refreshed. No new messages. The list still wasn’t here. She glanced at the time. Seven o’clock. Might as well go find something to eat.

She washed up, changed, pulled open her bedroom door, and headed downstairs.
