Tm moving soon. They just assigned me a place.”

Baar’s expression relaxed a little, but not entirely. “When?”

“Soon.”

“How soon?”

“Primo, if I get into a fight with him, will the Female Protection Center take my side?” Margaret was really fighting the urge to snap at him. The corner of her mouth twitched.

Primo didn’t have a chance to answer. Footsteps sounded on the stairs.

Margaret and Baar both turned their heads at the same time.

Cheiron was coming down from the second floor. He’d changed into a different jacket, clearly about to head out. When he reached the corner of the staircase, his steps paused.

He saw Baar too.

Their eyes met in midair, and the temperature in the living room seemed to drop a couple of degrees.

“Mr. Jewett,” Baar spoke first, using Cheiron’s formal title.

“Mr. Iverson.” Cheiron came down the last two steps, his tone no different than usual.

He glanced at Baar, then at Margaret, then looked away and walked toward the entryway to get his jacket.

His movements were natural, his expression flat, like the person sitting in the living room was just some ordinary delivery guy.

But Baar’s fingers started tapping the armrest again.

“Mr. Jewett, you’re not busy today?” Baar’s voice was even,

“I am busy.” Cheiron put on his jacket and adjusted the collar at a leisurely pace. “That’s why I’m heading

Cheiron fastened the last button on his jacket and turned around. He didn’t look at Baar again. Instead, he looked at Margaret,

“Have Blanc prepare lunch for you. There’s fresh produce in the fridge. Don’t forget to eat.” His tone was surprisingly gentle. It really did sound like a husband reminding his wife before leaving for work. Then he pulled the door open and walked out

Margaret was confused.

Had Cheiron ever been that gentle with her before? He had to be doing that on purpose… but why?

The door closed with a soft click, but in the quiet living room, it sounded loud and clear.

Baar’s fingers stopped tapping. He turned his head to look at Margaret. “He even controls what you eat?”

Margaret drew a deep breath and rose to her feet. “Mr. Iverson, can I get you something to drink? I’ll have Blanc fetch you some water.”

She opted to sidestep that question entirely, But Baar didn’t wait for her to walk off. He stood up as well.

He closed the distance and stopped right in front of her, his towering frame making Margaret a bit uneasy. He gazed down at her, his golden eyes swirling with something unreadable.

“The day you settle into your new place,” he said in a low voice, “I’ll be the first one through the door.”

Before Margaret could get a word out, Baar had already pivoted toward the exit. He yanked the door open and strode out,

Margaret remained in the middle of the living room, staring at the shut door for several long seconds. She shut her eyes and had a sinking feeling that the first day in her new house was going to be anything but quiet.

“Primo.”

“Here!” Primo’s voice popped out immediately, buzzing with an excitement that said it had been waiting forever to be called on. “Yes, host! Are we analyzing what just happened between those two? I’ve been waiting for this moment!”

Margaret’s lip twitched. “You’re way too nosy.”

“No, I’m not! I’m your system! Of course I care about your business!” Primo sounded downright proud of itself. “That scene just now… wow. Mr. Iverson walks in, Mr. Jewett comes downstairs, their eyes lock, and for a second I thought they were about to throw down.”

Margaret rolled her eyes. “As if.”

“Not literally fight, but that… that….” Primo stumbled for a second, searching for the right word. “That undercurrent between males! Didn’t you feel it? Mr. Iverson walked in and immediately asked why you were living in Cheiron’s house. The tone, the wording…”

“He said, “That’s not fair.” Margaret interjected lazily,

“Exactly! Not fair!” Primo’s voice shot up an octave. “Isn’t that basically him saying, ‘How come he gets to bunk with you first? That’s jealousy, right?”
