Chapter 65 The Most Efficient Method

Margaret gave Primo a mental eye roll and paid it no attention.

The guest rooms upstairs were all pretty similar. Margaret took the two men up to pick their spots.

Her own master bedroom was the biggest, a suite with its own living room and study. The other bedrooms sat across the hall from hers. Timothy didn’t bother with formalities. He grabbed the room diagonally to the left of Margaret’s, claiming the lighting was better, Baar stayed quiet. He simply pushed open the door to the room diagonally to the right.

One on the left, one on the right. Neither door directly faced hers. Otherwise, there was no telling how much longer their squabbling would have gone on.

The hallway had a strange tension hanging in the air. The two towering males stood at their respective doorways, their stares crossing over Margaret’s lead in a soundless standoff.

Margaret couldn’t be bothered. “You’ve both had long trips. Get some rest”

She turned, stepped into her bedroom, and locked the door behind her,

Finally, some quiet, Margaret walked to the small sitting area in her suite, dropped onto the couch, and powered up her Holo bracelet. She’d asked Cheiron to toss her old clothes, so now she desperately needed to hit the Interstellar Era’s biggest online store and stock up on daily essentials and some new outfits.

Her bracelet screen had just flickered to life when a knock came at the door.

Margaret paused.

Probably Timothy. He struck her as the restless type,

She sighed, got up, walked to the door, and pulled it open.

“Now what…”

The words caught in her throat. The person standing outside wasn’t Timothy with his fair hair and blue eyes. It was Baar, tall and grim-faced.

He must have stripped off his uniform jacket, leaving him in a black shirt that showed off his broad shoulders and lean waist even more. His wide frame practically swallowed all the light from the hallway.

Margaret was taken aback.

“What’s going on?”

Baar looked down at her, as if weighing his words. After a few seconds, he spoke in a low voice. “Can we talk inside?”

Inside? The two of them alone in a room?

Margaret frowned briefly, but then she reconsidered. Baar was the Supreme Commander of the Federal Military, and a legitimate beastman husband matched to her by the Central Brain.

She stepped aside to let him in. Baar walked into the room, and Margaret shut the door behind them.

“Alright, what’s this about?” Margaret leaned back against the door, arms folded.

Baar turned to face her, his eyes meeting hers without any lead-in. “I need a spiritual cleansing.”

Margaret blinked. Then her mind jumped to the gossip she’d seen on the Interstellar Forum. There were whispers that the Federal Supreme Commander’s spiritual power had been teetering on the edge of berserk for years, kept in check only by sheer willpower. Since there had never been a 3S-class female in the whole Interstellar Era, he’d had no access to effective relief.

No wonder he was in such a rush.

Margaret nodded. Baar had been willing to hand over his entire fortune. There was no way she’d turn down a simple cleansing.

“Alright.”

She straightened up and started to recall the original owner’s cleansing process. Back when the original owner had cleansed those three ex husbands, she’d usually done it by soothing their spirit beasts.

She was about to ask Baar to release his spirit beast when the man in front of her suddenly moved.

Baar took two steps forward, closing the gap between them in an instant. His tall frame towered over her, bearing down with an overwhelming presence. He planted his hands on the door behind Margaret, effectively caging her in.

He was too close. So close that Margaret could clearly feel the heat radiating from his body.

Baar lowered his head, his face drawing nearer. Margaret’s pupils shrank sharply.

“AHHHHHH! Host! He’s going to kiss you! Mr. Iverson is so direct!” Primo screeched inside Margaret’s head. “Hey? Wait, why did the screen go dark? Let me see!”

Margaret was shocked. On pure instinct, she raised her hands and shoved hard against the chest pressing down on her. The feeling under her palms was rock solid. Even through the fabric, she could feel the distinct contours of muscle. She snapped back to reality. This was not the time to be studying his pecs.

Baar stopped. He looked down at her, his expression confused. Hadn’t she agreed?

Margaret cleared her throat twice, her ears burning. In three lifetimes combined, she’d barely even held a man’s hand. In her previous life inside that book, the most intimate thing Reginald had ever done to her was grab her by the neck.

Baar watched her flushed cheeks and looked even more confused. In his straightforward, completely non- romantic mind, physical contact was simply the most efficient method of cleansing. No personal feelings attached.

“Physical contact is the most efficient cleansing method,” Baar said, perfectly serious. “You just advanced to 35 class. Your spiritual power is still unstable, Spirit beast contact would consume a lot of your energy. I’m worried you won’t be able to handle it.”

He paused, his gaze sharpening. “You never did intimate cleansing with those three ex husbands?”
