Cheiron took off his white lab coat and hung it on a hanger. “Let’s go. Your examination is done. I’ll take you back.”
The two walked side by side out of the private elevator on the top floor. Margaret turned her head and looked toward Cheiron. “How does the purification department at Prime Planet hospitals typically operate?”
Cheiron slowed his steps the moment he heard the question. He frowned slightly and looked Margaret up and down.
He spoke in a teasing tone, his voice lifting at the end. “Between your current account balance, the monthly dividends I send you, and the subsidies from the Female Protection Center, you’re far from needing to pick up extra work at the purification department, are you?”
Cheiron paused for a moment and added, “Most males who come here for regular purification have low spiritual power levels and cannot find a matched female. Their spending power is limited, so the cost of a single purification session is not high. Even with your 3S-class rank, the hospital could never offer credits worthy of your status.”
Margaret shrugged and spoke in a casual, joking tone. “It never hurts to learn how things work. Life can throw unexpected surprises. What if all my partners leave someday, and I end up broke? I ought to have a way to make a living just in case.”
She spoke purely in jest, with no serious meaning behind her words.
Cheiron stopped walking and turned to face her directly. No trace of humor remained in his gray eyes.
He looked straight at her and said firmly, “Nothing like that will ever happen.”
Margaret was caught off guard by his sudden seriousness. She could not tell if he meant her partners would never leave, or that she would never lose all her money. The atmosphere felt awkward, and she was about to laugh it off to lighten the mood.
Loud commotion drifted around the corner ahead. That hallway led straight to the purification department.
Margaret set aside their earlier conversation. She leaned forward slightly to peer toward the busy area. Cheiron let out a quiet sigh and followed closely behind her.
The open space at the end of the corridor was packed with people. Seven or eight tiny floating holographic cameras hovered in mid-air; focusing on every angle of the center of the crowd. A female reporter held a recording microphone and spoke rapidly to the audience. It was clear that a galactic media team was conducting a live interview.
Right in the middle of all the lenses stood a slender figure.
The woman wore a soft pink dress, and her hair was styled neatly. A dozen tall men surrounded her. These tough, rugged warriors all looked at the pink-clad figure with obvious admiration and undisguised fondness.
It was Phoebe.

The second Margaret recognized her face, her features twisted with distaste. She felt disgusted and uncomfortable at the sight.
Cheiron stood beside her and noticed every change in her expression. A quiet laugh escaped himn. Margaret usually acted laid-back and indifferent toward most things, yet her reaction was completely honest when she faced someone she disliked.
Margaret turned around at once, eager to leave. “This is an eyesore. Let’s get out of here.”
She prepared to slip away quickly. Just as she moved, a doctor in a white coat spotted Cheiron from the edge of the crowd.
He called out in a loud voice, “Good day, Mr. Jewett!”
His shout drew the full attention of everyone present. Dozens of pairs of eyes, along with all the floating cameras, swiveled toward Margaret and Cheiron in an instant.
Margaret fell silent on the spot.
