Chapter 88 Stay Focused

Primo spoke up in Margaret’s mind right away. “Host, Ardon is heading toward the docks on the west side of the hotel. I’m pulling up the surveillance feeds from that area now. Also, he’s run into two street lamps while walking—that huge cloak blocks his vision completely.”
Margaret replied, “Stay focused.”
Primo said. “Got it.”
Ardon was sweltering beneath the heavy fabric.
Sweat soaked his body, and the thick cloak clung to his back, trapping the heat and making him feel utterly miserable.
He tugged roughly at the collar and took a long drink of water to cool down.
Before leaving for Valoran Galaxy, Phoebe had told him the area was full of all kinds of people. Ardon had gone through the equipment storage at the Starfield Free Mercenaries Guild and picked out this special cloak, which was designed to block thermal imaging scans.
He had not expected nearly everyone on the beach to wear swimwear.
Clad in his dark cloak, he stood out like a sore thumb.
Six security droids had turned to stare at him along his walk, and one had even followed him for more than 100 feet before finally moving on.
He regreued not wearing ordinary clothes as Phoebe had suggested. At the time, he had been set on treating this as a top-secret mission and had thought casual outfits looked far too unprofessional.
Ardon wiped the sweat from his face and kept walking along the edge of the docks. His meeting spot was inside a container at the far end of the western docks, where he was supposed to meet a middleman from the black market.
He had only taken a few more steps when the hood slipped down again and covered his eyes entirely.
A dull thud echoed as his knee crashed hard into a street lamp post.
Sharp pain shot through his leg, and he winced intensely, fearing he had fractured his kneecap.
Ardon gritted his teeth, pushed the hood back up, and continued forward despite the throbbing ache.
This gig! Why the hell did I even agree to it?
It all started when he saw Phoebe crying

Phoebe had come to him with red, puffy eyes and a tearful expression. “Ardon, you’re the only one who can help me.”
Her fragile look stirred an overwhelming urge to protect her within Ardon. He had promised right then that he would do anything for her, no matter how dangerous the task.
Phoebe had also made him a promise in return. Once the matter was resolved, she would submit an official application at the Female Protection Center’s marriage office to become his legal mate.
This pledge had been like a lifeline for Ardon.
His access to official matching services had been suspended ever since his attempt to overwhelm Margaret with his S-class spiritual power had been recorded in the public files. Back then, Margaret had only been a C-class female, and he had expected a six-month suspension as punishment. Everything changed when she rose in rank and became the galaxy’s only 38-class female,
Now he faced the severe charge of attempting to harm a rare 35-class female. With this mark on his record, he would never be paired with any female for the rest of his life.
As an S-class registered hunter working for the Starfield Free Mercenaries Guild, he regularly endured spiritual power exhaustion and energy contamination on missions. A mate was essential to keep his power stable. He feared he would eventually lose control and die from a power rampage without one.
Phoebe’s willingness to accept him at such a difficult time had clouded his judgment completely. He had thrown all rational thought aside the moment he heard her promise.
The plan she had laid out was reckless, to say the least..
Ardon needed to buy two items from Valoran Galaxy’s black market. The first was a colorless, odorless poison, whose composition could not be detected even by the advanced equipment at Prime Planet Central Hospital. The second was a special drug that could drastically boost spiritual power, and he was ordered to purchase a full twenty pills.
Phoebe’s instructions were clear. She planned to slip the performance-enhancing drug into Margaret’s food or drink, then expose her to the entire galaxy for relying on illegal substances to fake her 35-class rank. Once Margaret’s reputation was destroyed, her five powerful matched partners would abandon her without a second thought. If the drug’s effects proved unstable, Phoebe was to use the poison to kill Margaret outright.
Ardon had thought the whole scheme overly complicated. He had always wanted to kill Margaret directly.
Hatred for her had long taken root deep inside him. He still remembered the humiliation of being dragged out of the hospital in full view of others outside Cheiron’s office-he, a proud S-class male, had been publicly ejected. He had dreamed of getting revenge ever since that day.
One derail puzzled him, though. He could not understand why Phoebe needed twenty doses of the enhancement drug for a single frame-up.
To gather enough credits to buy these banned goods, Ardon had spent every single credit he had earned from years of mercenary work.
He finally reached the warehouse district on the western docks.
The atmosphere here stood in stark contrast to the lively beach area. The whole zone was quiet and
