Scarlett’s POV
Three days.
We stayed in this dense forest for three days. And during those endless days of watching Lucien sweat through fevers, coaxing him to eat and drink, and sleeping beside him at night to share warmth–even though, for the first time, he had suggested sleeping apart because he didn’t want his fever to affect me.
But just as he was stubborn with himself, I also didn’t listen to him.
On the fourth morning, I suddenly woke up alone, and the hand that was supposed to be on my waist every morning was gone.
I slowly opened my eyes. “Lucien?”
When there was no response, I hurriedly stood up and left the shelter formed by the large tree roots. The fire had burned low, leaving only gray ash, but I could still detect his scent lingering in the air.
Was it a rogue? Had he been taken by rogues while I slept?
Damn it! I let my guard down.

“You scared me half to death. I didn’t want to go back to Nightshade pack alone–bringing your corpse.” I to keep my voice calm.
His chest vibrated as he patted my head. “Thanks for your hard work, little wolf. You can rest assured now the one you’ll bring back isn’t a corpse.”
I let out a soft chuckle. “You are definitely better if you can banter back.”
The smirk on his lips deepened as he pulled me into his arms, burying his face in my neck. “Thank you fo staying, even when I was half–disabled for days.”
My heart warmed, and the lump in my throat finally disappeared. The corners of my eyes red as I tried to push him away. “Shut it and don’t hug me. I haven’t washed these past three days and, honestly, I want to d from itchiness. If I had mysophobia, I’d have gone crazy.”
He chuckled. “I know. That’s why I ventured out and found a lake nearby.”
I glared at him. “And you said you wouldn’t allow me to venture out, but you went off on your own? That’s fair?”
“I was worried about you–that’s why I didn’t want you venturing alone, especially since we barely know this place,” he explained.
I rolled my eyes at him. “And you think I’m not worried too? Do you see me as heartless–like I won’t feel anything?”
The corner of his lips curved as he brought his face closer to mine. “So, did you feel anything for me during these days?”

wordlessly, as if we had been hungry for this for so long.
By the time the kiss ended, I was the one breathing heavily, catching my breath, while he stayed behind his hands wrapped tightly around my waist.
“What are you doing, Lucien? You’re injured,” I said between breaths.
Lucien tightened his grip around my waist, pressing me harder against his body. I could feel his arousal growing against my back. “It’s not like my dick is broken, is it?”
“Fuck–mpph…” Before I could reply, his mouth crashed onto mine. The kiss was fierce and desperate, ye laced with tenderness that nearly made my knees give out.
The water rippled as he pulled me further into his embrace, this time turning me to face him. My bare ch pressed against his. My nipples tightened into hard peaks against his warmth, drawing a gasp from me. H swallowed the sound, groaning into my mouth as it drove him wild.
“Fuck, little wolf…” he rasped, breaking away only to trail kisses down my throat. His teeth grazed, nipped, claimed, while his hands roamed–one cupping the curve of my back, the other anchoring me against him
