Lucien snarled as Kade cut another shallow line across his arm. His ribs screamed from the earlier hit, but he couldn’t care less. The fury in his heart only grew deeper when he saw that his Luna had been cornered while she was protecting their child.

Kade sneered. “You can’t even protect her in your current situation. Now take a good look at your beloved Luna and let’s see if you won’t watch her fall—”

Lucien struck him again, pushing Kade back as Lucien’s weapon nearly stabbed his throat.

Kade chuckled after he managed to evade. “You’re getting rusty, Lucien. You don’t deserve to be called the strongest Alpha. If you hadn’t fallen in love, you wouldn’t be this foolish.”

Lucien just ignored his taunt. He didn’t care about the blabbering man in front of him. What he cared about

was Scarlett.

He gritted his teeth and was about to go to Scarlett when a figure suddenly appeared in front of him, running toward Scarlett.

“Alpha, let me.” He heard Nick say as he caught up with Scarlett and the Alpha who kept pushing her further.

Lucien took a deep breath. “Protect her!”

Nick didn’t reply, but Lucien knew that he had heard him and would protect Scarlett. That knowledge brought him some peace.

Lucien’s eyes darkened as he swept his gaze over Kade. “Now I can fight you properly. I couldn’t earlier, since my eyes and mind couldn’t help but think of the well–being of my Luna.”

Although Kade paused–full of disbelief that their fighting earlier was just considered a warm–up, and Lucien hadn’t been taking it seriously while Kade himself was going all out–he still launched an attack on Lucien.

At the same time, Arnold also appeared at Scarlett’s side, blades flashing as he cut down the enemy warriors who were about to hurt her. He showed no mercy in cutting them down, as if he were slicing through plants. He was already proficient in finding the wolves‘ weaknesses. After all, he was on the forensic team and studied bodies.

After seeing that Nick had gone straight to their Luna to protect her right after smashing the head of his enemies, Arnold also went there and followed him. Even though there was tension between the two of them, they knew the cold war would have to wait for a more appropriate time and place. For now, they needed to focus on this battle instead.

“Stay behind me,” Arnold growled, intercepting three wolves at once. His blade tore through one’s throat, and his claws ripped another’s chest open. “I’ll hold them off. Watch my back.”

Scarlett paused, glancing at Nick and Arnold, who seemed to be in harmony as they fought the enemies, giving her a brief moment to rest while she kept watch for any sneak attacks from behind.

She couldn’t help but sigh helplessly. She didn’t know if she had really contributed to this war–or was just here to cause trouble. After all, Lucien couldn’t concentrate on his fight. Nick and Arnold had put their disagreement aside and joined forces to protect her.

The Crescent Moon warriors, who had their eyes locked on Scarlett, under Faye’s constant manipulation and twisted lies, gritted their teeth and yelled angrily.

“The Luna is ours! Let’s fight to the end to get back our Luna!” one of them shouted, pointing their sword at

Lucien.

“If the Alpha of Nightshade falls, the Luna will come back! Our Luna will come back!” another followed. Their eyes were crazed, filled with murderous intentions.

Seeing that they were all targeting Lucien, Scarlett’s heart turned cold.

“Fuck! These goddamn bastards!” Arnold kicked the last enemy aside and glanced at Lucien.

Scarlett, seeing them all lunge at Lucien with raised blades intent on killing him, felt her heart drop. Her eyes narrowed as, without hesitation, she ran toward Lucien as fast as she could, trying to outrun them. But the Blackblood Alpha, Lars, who had been fighting Nick earlier, escaped from Nick since Scarlett was his real target–not Nick.

Her body staggered from pain and blood loss. She glanced at her arm and shoulder, which had been bleeding

nonstop.

“He’ll die anyway. Why keep him alive?” Lars taunted, a wide grin spreading on his lips.

Scarlett glared at him coldly. “If he does, I’ll make sure to burn this world along with you.”

Lars laughed wildly. “Burn this world? That’s a bold claim when you’re barely holding us off.”

Scarlett ignored him. Her eyes fell on Lucien, who fought with Kade while also defending against the enemies who had surrounded him.

Her heartbeat quickened, and as if linked by their bond, their eyes found each other across the chaos.

A thousand words passed unspoken between them.

Lucien didn’t pause as he shouted, “Don’t worry about me! Protect Scarlett!”

Scarlett’s eyes narrowed, and Lars laughed at her even more.

“You shouldn’t have come here. Take a good look–everyone is protecting you. If you hadn’t come, they would have been able to focus on their own battles instead.” Lars said with a mocking smile, watching every flicker of emotion on Scarlett’s face.

Scarlett couldn’t even deny it. Deep down, seeing everyone protect her–which she wasn’t used to–twisted something inside her. She thought she could help fend off the enemies and fight alongside the Nightshade to win, but now it seemed they had been forced onto the defensive to guard her, instead of focusing on their own fights.

Lars taunted again. “If you keep insisting you can fight–how can a Luna fight with Alphas? Even if you say you’ve been in wars before, how can you prove you led them, rather than being protected by your dead warriors?”

Scarlett’s eyes darkened as she looked at him. “Say what you want, but never insult my warriors.”

“What’s wrong? Can’t accept it? Your presence alone is disruptive. Don’t you see?” Lars kept mocking her, his grin never leaving his face. “Why don’t you come with us instead? If you left, don’t you think they could focus on their fight?”

“Shut up.” Scarlett tried to attack him, but Lars dodged and kept pressing.

“You’re useless to them, anyway.” Lars shrugged as he pressed his attack against Scarlett, whose eyes shone as fiercely as her name. “If Nightshade falls, don’t you think everyone will blame you? Blame you, their Luna, for being the root cause? Blame you for leading the downfall of their pack?”

“I’ll slit your throat,” Scarlett growled, her voice vibrating low and hoarse from her chest as she was the one to attack this time.

Lars dodged as best he could, and although he suffered slashes and stabs, he kept triggering Scarlett with his words, just as Faye instructed, sacrificing himself for the cause.

“Why don’t you just kill your child and come back to Crescent Moon? I’m sure Alpha Alexander would

welcome-”

At that, seeing in her peripheral vision that Lucien had been stabbed from behind, the last thread holding her sanity together snapped.

Her vision filled with red–as if blood had covered her eyes, yet a faint glow lit within them. She fell silent and screamed, clutching her head as her aura swelled and turned terrifying.

They all stopped in shock at Scarlett’s scream, while Faye’s eyes lit up with delight, eager to see her break.

“Scarlett!” Lucien yelled, trying to reach her but was blocked.

“Not so fast, Alpha,” Kade said playfully, even as blood ran down his body, provoking Lucien to curse and fight back with everything he had, desperate to break through even as more enemies surrounded him.

Nick and Arnold finished off the Blackblood warriors holding them back, looking over at Scarlett in fear. Arnold shouted, “Luna! What’s wrong?”
