Chapter 139
Scarlett’s POV
70
The battlefield was filled with the scent of iron. Some areas had been bombed so heavily that smoke drifted from the ground. Bodies were piled up, no longer shouting or moving.
I didn’t know what was wrong with me earlier–I couldn’t remember exactly what had happened in just a span of hours, but I recalled being furious and helpless, knowing I was the one who made this war happen, yet I was still useless–always being protected.
What I did remember was that I killed Alpha Lars out of anger, but I didn’t know how I did it or why my body moved on its own, as if it was born to kill.
Now that my senses had returned, the pain all over my body almost made me tremble and hiss. My head throbbed and there was a shortness of breath in my chest that I couldn’t even describe.
I found myself standing in the middle of the corpses–like I was about to walk over them to get to the other side where Lucien was.
I was about to look at Lucien when I suddenly noticed my wrist throbbing and my hands grasping something heavy.
I froze. I saw my claws, sharp as ever, had pierced the throat of a Blackblood warrior. His eyes were lifeless, his mouth open in a silent scream.
My stomach churned and my breath nearly left me. I hurriedly yanked my hand back and shoved the corpse away from me. It thudded to the ground, dust rising around its broken form.
Just as I suspected, there was something wrong with my body. Did I lose control? Yet I’d never lost my sanity, never lost my senses.
Then my eyes fell onto my hand, my claws dripping with blood, my fur stained crimson.
Is it Kaya?
‘Kaya? Did you come out? Are you awake now?‘ I hurriedly called to her in my mind, hoping she would provide me with some information.
This sudden loss of control is dangerous. I have to prevent it from happening again. After all, I vaguely remembered what Lars looked like after I killed him. It was too…horrifying, and just thinking of it sent shivers down my spine.
I thought this time I would be disappointed that Kaya wouldn’t respond because she was still in her recovery phase. After all, she endured pain I was supposed to suffer, and not just some–she took almost all of it. That was why she still hadn’t woken up.
But the claws in my hands… maybe she was already awake but too tired to respond.
However, I was wrong.

I stood still, not caring about the enemies lurking.
My eyes brightened. “Kaya! You’re finally awake! I missed you so much!
‘I miss you too, but let’s not focus on that. Kaya sounded serious, and it made me frown.
“Did something happen? I seemed to have lost control of myself. What happened to me? Did you take over?” I rattled off questions, hoping she’d give me some information, otherwise, I couldn’t be at ease.
Kaya let out a heavy sigh, but her voice was firm. ‘I’ll tell you once we’re back at Nightshade. For now, all you have to do is never let them catch you. Do you understand?‘
Her words made me frown. “Who are they? Who are you talking about?”
Kaya yawned. “Your blood relatives.”
Before I could speak, she cut off our connection and fell into a deep sleep again. As if she’d just appeared so I wouldn’t lose control of myself further.
And the claws were proof of it.
I glanced at my claws, which slowly transformed back into hands. My mind was still full of the last words Kaya had said.
Blood relatives? But my family is already dead. I watched my mother grow weaker each day until she died. I saw my father sacrifice himself to protect me from the rogues.
Other than them, I had no other blood relatives. My father told me he was an orphan, so I had no grandparents. My mother also said she was an orphan. They met each other in the orphanage and decided they would rely on each other in the future. That’s why they got married and had me.
So, what blood relative is Kaya talking about? I have no siblings either. My father, after seeing how much my mother suffered giving birth, decided not to have more children for fear it would be too much for her.
“Luna!”
I almost faltered, snapping back to consciousness as I heard Arnold shout at me.
“Watch out!”
I paused and caught sight of the familiar faces that had once obeyed me as we went to war together so many times.
I never thought I would see such familiar faces here. It would be hard for me to kill them, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t do it.
I tightened my grip on my sword and was about to strike them first when they shouted.
“Luna!”

I paused and looked at them, waiting for them to go on.
Coby, who had once been my second hand back when I was still in Crescent Moon, ground his teeth, his eyer full of worry. “Y–You’re not being controlled, right? You are our Luna”
I frowned and shook my head. “I’m not being controlled, and I am the Luna of the Nightshade Pack. I am Alpha Lucien’s Luna.”
Gasps rippled among them, as if they couldn’t believe what I had just said.
One of the bolder ones was furious. “You are our Luna! Did that Alpha Lucien trick you?! Don’t worry, we’re here to take you back!”
“Yes, that’s right, Luna! We’re here to take you away from Lucien!”
I looked at them. Their eyes were filled with hope, fear, guilt, and hesitation.
I knew they were just trying to convince themselves.
I shook my head. “I will stay in the Nightshade Pack. I will stay with Lucien.”
“But you’ve always been our Luna!” one protested.
I looked him in the eyes and answered coldly, “I was once your Luna. However, your Alpha cast me aside and chose Faye as your Luna. You already have your own Luna, so why do you keep seeking me when you know Alexander and I have already dissolved our bonds? Stop lying to yourselves.”
They pressed their lips together and bowed their heads in shame.
Coby sighed and looked me in the eyes. “You don’t have to explain to us, Luna. We know you’ve been threatened by Nightshade’s Alpha, that’s why you chose to stay. They threatened you with our pack–you didn’t want anything to happen to us, so you followed his orders. But now that we’re here, we will do our best to take you away.”
Arnold, who had been fighting with the last of the Blackblood warriors, sneered at his words. “Are you a fool? Which of your eyes sees that our Alpha is threatening his Luna?”
Coby glared at him, about to say something, but I interrupted. “Coby, I know you’re aware that Alexander and I have already dissolved our bond. He’s the one who broke our sacred bond first. Also, you shouldn’t let Faye’s honeyed words sway you.”
Their bodies stiffened. Their eyes widened in disbelief.
“B–But she said you broke things off with Alexander because Lucien forced himself on you and took you by force. That’s why we decided to wage war after gathering our forces–to take Lucien down and bring you
back.”
I looked at them and gave a soft chuckle. “I always told you, back when I was your commander, to verify information from both sides before going to war.”
Their swords and weapons fell to the ground. They covered their faces with their hands, their eyes blazing
