I froze, my hair standing on end as a jolt of electricity ran down my spine after hearing Kaya’s urgent voice.
Lucien seemed to sense my anxiety; he took my hand and looked alarmed. “What’s wrong? Are you in pain? Is something happening? I’ll call the physician to check on you.”
I hurriedly shook my head at his words.
“Then what is it? Why do you look so anxious?” he asked, his hands gently brushing my cheeks.
I nuzzled my face into his hands and looked at him with concern. “Kaya said that they are coming.”
“It seems Kaya is already awake. That’s good.” He paused, then asked, “Who is coming?”
I pursed my lips and didn’t answer him. I spoke with Kaya again, who kept repeating the same thing like a broken record–even though she was trembling with panic.
“Calm down, Kaya. Tell me, who is coming? Why are they coming here? Are they coming for me?” I asked in a gentle voice, trying to soothe her.
Kaya let out a low growl as she whimpered. “The Dark Moon… they are coming to get you.”
Although I already suspected what she meant, having it confirmed was terrifying.
I forced myself to stay calm and let out a hollow laugh. “Why are you panicking? It’s not like they’ll do anything to me.”
Kaya growled. “I told you, they’ll drag you back to the Dark Moon Pack and won’t let you out—just like what happened to your mother. It was only because her nanny helped her escape that she managed to get out, otherwise she would have spent the rest of her life in seclusion.”
“But I don’t think they would do that to me. It’s not like I see them as family or anything,” I tried to argue, but she retorted.
“They’ll drag you back, whether you like it or not. The Queen only has your mother as a descendant, and since her beloved daughter eloped with a man and died right after–for leaving the Dark Moon without the Queen’s permission–the poison in their bodies takes over and slowly kills them. That’s what happened to your mother.”
Kaya’s explanation made me freeze.
“So you’re saying they killed my mother?”
“Well, not exactly, but it’s the same in the end. It’s the Queen’s rule. The Dark Moon is famous for its poisons and elixirs. Wolves, rogues, animals, or any living being can’t get in or out without the Queen’s approval. Still, your mother defied the rules and ran away with a man, even though she knew what it would cost her.”

My jaw clenched. This was the consequence of their decisions, and nothing I could do would change the past. I couldn’t control others‘ choices, and I couldn’t say whether what my mother did was right or wrong.
I pressed my temple and sighed heavily. “If I go there… I’ll be poisoned.”
“Yes, and you mustn’t go, especially while you’re pregnant. It’ll be dangerous for both you and your cub,” Kaya reminded, making me pause in realization.
My hand gently pressed my stomach. Right, I was pregnant. If I inhaled any kind of poison, it would harm my child.
“What’s wrong, little wolf?” I heard Lucien ask, looking at me with concern.
I exhaled slowly and leaned on him. “Kaya said the Dark Moon is coming to take me away.”
His eyes darkened and his jaw clenched as he looked down at me. “Will you go?”
Before he could overthink, I already shook my head. “I won’t. I’m not close to the Dark Moon, and besides, didn’t I tell you I’ll be staying here? I am the Luna of Nightshade.”
I saw him breathe a sigh of relief before he hugged me tightly. Before he could speak, I chuckled and teased him. “Unless, of course, you want me to go to the Dark Moon… then maybe I would.”
His grip tightened. “Hell no. Who knows how many decades I’d have to wait just to see you again? A day without you already feels like torture–how much more a decade?”
I laughed. “Yeah, I couldn’t do it either. I’d miss you for sure. Besides, Dark Moon isn’t a good place to raise our child–since Kaya said the miasma there would make things hard for both me and the baby. I’m already happy here… Now there’s no one who’ll bother us again.” I said calmly, leaning on him.
His chest vibrated with a quiet laugh. “Indeed. After all, Alexander has already been locked away with his beloved Luna. I heard Alexander tried to push her away, but someone with brain damage couldn’t understand him and only kept clinging to him. Now, Alexander has become even more aggressive and ordered the warriors to kill the woman he once loved, but the warriors ignored him and made them suffer.”
So that was what became of their story. I exhaled softly, closing my eyes. “Well, it was their own choices that led to their downfall.”
“Let’s not talk about them. Let’s talk about our marriage,” Lucien suddenly said, making me look at him with wide eyes as my cheeks heated.
“W–What marriage?”
“I told you; I’m already preparing our wedding for tomorrow,” he said with a smirk.
I playfully pinched his chest. “B–But what if I don’t wake up?”
His eyes darkened as he leaned closer to me. “Then I’ll postpone it again, move it to the next day, like I’ve been doing.”

“You are crazy!” I exclaimed.

So, what he meant was that ever since I fell asleep, he’d been preparing for our wedding, and if I woke up, everything would be ready–even though there was no guarantee I’d wake up soon.
Who knows if it would take me decades to wake–then he’d wait just as long, holding everything ready so we could marry the moment I woke up.
I saw him grin from ear to ear as he leaned over and pressed a kiss to my lips. “You’re worth it, my beloved Luna. I’ve been waiting for this day.”
My breath caught. Warmth surged through me and I looked away, trying to cover my embarrassment with a fake cough.
“What if I disagree?” I coughed.
He smiled as he kissed my cheek. “I’ll just ask you again and again, until you agree to stay by my side for the rest of your life.”
I looked up at him. “Even if I have scars on my neck? You’re not disgusted?”
His expression softened. “I hate the one who marked you–not you. I love everything about you–your scars, your flaws, your smile, your love, your affection–everything.” He whispered softly in my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
I beamed at him. “And our baby.”
Lucien’s eyes warmed as his hand settled gently on the small bump at my belly. “Yes. Our baby too.”
Before our moment could deepen, our door slammed open–and the only person who would enter without knocking was Kathleen.
“What is-”
“Ahh! It’s an emergency!” Kathleen interrupted, sounding panicked as she looked at us.
“What’s wrong?” Lucien asked her calmly, not letting go of me.
Kathleen’s words were so jumbled I had to ask her to repeat herself. After taking a deep breath, her face still pale, she managed to speak.
“There’s an intruder at our gates! She’s too strong. She easily knocked down the four warriors guarding the entrance! And now she’s heading straight to the hall!”
Arnold staggered in, just as breathless. “She has the same aura you gave off when you lost control on the battlefield. We tried to reason with her, to ask why she was here, but she told us it was none of our business.”
