I watched as Lucien immediately stepped in front of me, looking coldly at the woman who stood at the same height as him.

“State your business politely. You are not in your territory.”

The woman stared coldly at him, scanning him from top to bottom as if assessing him, then let her eyes fall on me. “It seems that you chose a finer man compared to your mother.”

My eyes darkened. It was as if she were insulting my father–no, she was insulting him.

Then the woman looked coldly back at Lucien. “Step aside. I’ve come for Scarlett, not you.”

Lucien’s glare was sharp as he stood his ground, completely unfazed by the woman in front of him. “We have no business with you. Go back to where you came from.”

The woman chuckled, then her eyes narrowed. “What? You want to fight me? Your warriors were too weak for me to unleash my full strength. This place isn’t suitable for the next Queen.”

I froze. I looked at the woman and this time, I spoke. “I am not planning to go with you. I will stay here, and I won’t be your Queen either. I’m already a Luna in this pack.”

The woman looked at me and chuckled. “Luna? They only see you as a Luna? You don’t belong here, Scarlett.”

I felt Lucien’s hand grip mine as he looked at me. I gave him a nod and looked back at the woman. “I won’t go with you. Tell the Queen that we have no relationship. I have no ties to the Dark Moon.”

The woman’s eyes fell on our intertwined hands, then she sneered. “As expected, you all still believe in these ridiculous mates.”

She looked at me coldly. “The Queen ordered me to get you, by force or otherwise. Also….” she glanced at me, then her eyes rested on my neck. “You were marked before and had it dissolved–I’ll erase it for you, fully.”

“This is none of your business. You are all strangers to me.”

“Then we’ll find ways for you to get to know us. It’s not the end of the world anyway,” she said coldly, making Lucien’s face darken.

“Can’t you understand our language? She doesn’t want to go with you,” he said icily.

The woman looked at him and laughed. “She doesn’t want to go? Or is it you who doesn’t want her to leave?”

My eyes darkened. “I don’t want to go with you, so you should leave.”

“Not even if I tell you about your mother’s childhood?” she asked.

I smirked. “She would fully support my decision not to go back. Now get lost.”

I saw the veins on her forehead and neck appear, throbbing. “You really are a hardheaded woman.”

“I don’t care. I’m already living a peaceful life here, so don’t disrupt it. Besides, I’m pregnant. It’s not suitable for me to visit your pack, and I’m sure you know it,” I said, my eyes narrowing.

She clearly knew that it would be bad for me and my child if I went to their pack, yet she kept insisting I go with her… Even my gut was telling me something was off about her, and that’s why I couldn’t trust them easily.

After all, it was my mother who told me never to go back to the Dark Moon Pack.

I trust the woman who gave me life far more than these people I scarcely know.

My mother would never harm me, I know it. But them… who knows?

“And so?” Her brows arched.

“It’s not suitable for me to visit or live there. Besides, I will stay with Lucien,” I answered coldly, making her rub her temples.

“Like mother, like daughter. So stubborn,” I heard her murmur; then she looked me in the eye. “Your child is consuming your energy, and if you don’t raise him in our pack, you will die.”

I sneered. “Do you think I would believe you?”

Even Kaya, in my head, growled. “Right! They just want to harm us! I’ve heard that your mother’s wolf was removed by the Queen.”

My eyes widened as I looked at Kaya. “So, you mean the Dark Moon doesn’t have wolves? How could that be?”

Kaya shook her head. “I don’t know, but if I compared them to anything–they seem more like celestials, or just witches who know a lot of witchcraft.”

“Did my mother mention where the Queen came from?” I asked.

“Your mother said before that the Queen was an orphan too—she was once a slave. I don’t know more about her past,” Kaya said with a sigh. “I don’t know what she would do to us if you went with her.”

“Afraid she might get rid of you?” I teased.

Kaya groaned. “Of course. After all, I am comfortable being with you, and I still have to watch you give birth to your child.”

“You’re not communicating with Lucien’s wolf?” I asked, raising my brows.

Kaya purred. “As if. He’s just a big idiot. Also, why did you tell Lucien that I’m awake?! Now his idiot wolf will

know!”

I rolled my eyes. “You didn’t tell me to keep it a secret, and besides, do you think I can hide anything from him?”

She paused and cursed under her breath. “Right. You even told him that Kathleen spent a night with a man.”

“I didn’t say anything! Lucien just knew I was lying to him!” I exclaimed.

Just as Kaya was about to speak, Night–Lucien’s wolf–appeared in my mind, immediately pouncing on Kaya, who ran away.

“Ah! Get off me, Night!” I heard Kaya angrily yell as she tried to escape from him.

Seeing her more lively than before, I let out a soft chuckle and shouted, “Enjoy, Kaya!”

“F–Fuck! Tell Lucien to call off his foolish wolf!” Kaya shouted while dodging Night’s licking.

I just shook my head and was about to cut our connection when Kaya appeared in front of me again, her tone serious. “Do not easily trust the Dark Moon, Scarlett. Always keep your guard up. My gut says they’re not here to take you back because of your blood.”

I paused and solemnly nodded. “I know. Don’t worry.”

After ending my consciousness link with Kaya, who seemed to be cursing Night, I turned back to the woman and said coldly, “Go back. I won’t go with you.”

I saw the way her eyes darkened, but she immediately masked it with indifference. “I’ll come back tomorrow to change your mind.”

“No need. My decision is final.”

She stared at me. “You really look like your mother. It’s like seeing her in you.”

Lucien stood in front of me and glared at her coldly. “Go back.”

“Don’t make me take you by force, Scarlett,” she said coldly before turning around and leaving with such ease as if this were her own territory.

After she left, Kathleen let out a heavy breath. “Damn, that was nerve–wracking! I didn’t think you had such a dangerous background! The next queen of the Dark Moon, no less.”

I sighed helplessly. “I don’t think they mean me any good.”

Kathleen and Arnold nodded. “You could see it in the way she looked at you–as if she was calculating your

worth.”

Lucien’s arms wrapped around my waist, making me look up at him with a smile. “Don’t worry. I won’t go with them.”

“I know that. But I’m worried she might take you away by force.”

I tilted my head. “Would you let that happen?”

The corner of his mouth lifted and his eyes turned even colder. “Hell no.”

Arnold let out a heavy sigh. “Damn, I thought we’d finally have a peaceful year.”

“Let’s do the wedding tomorrow. If we keep postponing it just because of them, we’ll keep having to postpone it again,” I said helplessly, making Lucien, who was beside me, freeze.

I looked at him with a smile. “Let’s get married tomorrow, Lucien. Just like you, I can’t wait.”
