Chapter 16
Scarlett’s POV
I woke up to the feeling of warm, soft sheets,
My eyes were still closed.
“What’s that smell? Lavender? Or vanilla? Or both? Mmm… smells amazing,” I reasoned.
I could stay like this forever. And… oh, it was perfect. My skin felt soft and cozy, like I was in heaven….
Wait.
I opened my eyes and let out a scream when I saw an unfamiliar room.
“How did I end up here?” I muttered, still in shock, until my brain recalled Lucien’s face.
I was in his car, driving to his…
“Oh no!” I suddenly realized, gasping. I’d made it.
The room itself looked like a castle, three times the size of the bedroom Alexander and I used to share.
I threw off the sheets and climbed out of bed like I’d committed the worst sin of my life.
My bare feet touched the icy cold floor, and I squeaked from the chill.
“Who turned on the AC?” I grumbled.
As a Luna, I feared cold wouldn’t kill me.
I only liked the cold when I shifted. Otherwise, give me sunshine.
A dual life. I glanced around the room one last time-
I was starting to like it.
Finally, I noticed the door and walked toward it. My hand was on the doorknob, about to turn it when-
The door opened.
I nearly died from shock.
It almost broke my nose.
I jerked back, and in the next second, a female version of Lucien stood staring at me.
Of course. How hadn’t I heard her walk up?
Her sharp cheekbones and flawless hair framed her face strikingly. Her eye color–exactly like Latcien’s.
I stood there like a fool until she shrieked, “Oh my gosh! You’re awake!”
“Uh, am I supposed to be dead?” I wanted to say–but held my tongue.

She rushed forward and grabbed my hand before I could retreat.

Which only scared me more. My mind raced with questions. “Who is this crazy woman? Why does she have Lucien’s face?”
“Aha! I knew it, I knew you’d be this pretty,” she went on, rambling. “Lucien, you sneaky bastard. You’re too perfect!”
I stared at her, blinking.
My brain deduced her last sentence was meant for me.
“Uh… and you are?” I asked.
She laughed. “I’m Kathleen, Lucien’s little sister. Well, not so little anymore–but don’t tell him that. He’s super overprotective, bossy, rude… but don’t worry, he’s only nice to the ones he secretly likes.”
Her words sank in quickly. “Secretly likes? Is that a thing? Or is she just trying to make her brother look good? He sure needs the PR.”
“Nice to meet you,” I said slowly, “So…”
I was rarely this speechless. I couldn’t match her energy. She acted like a golden retriever in human form.
“We’re going to be best friends. I just know it,” she chirped. “Come on. I’ll show you the house.”
Before I could protest, she grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the room.
The maids and guards all widened their eyes as we passed.
“Welcome, Luna,” they greeted.
Wait. What? Were they talking to me?
I immediately stopped walking. Kathleen tugged at my hand, but I didn’t budge.
“They… what did they just call me?” I whispered.
I knew what that would mean. I just hadn’t expected it so soon.
In Alexander’s pack, we had a Luna wolf. Technically, I was a disgraced one–but still. A warning would’ve helped.
Kathleen smiled at me. “Luna. Don’t act like it’s your first time being called that. Stand tall. You’re my brother’s friend–and now, the queen of this pack.”
“I… I didn’t. I mean, that’s not–he didn’t. He wouldn’t-“I stammered.
She rolled her eyes, looking at me like I was a sheep. “Lucien never lets anyone sleep in that room. And the way he carried you up there? Like a damn porcelain doll. It was magical.”
I blinked. “Wait, what? Carried me?”
Kathleen turned to face me, grinning like a cat with a secret. “Yup. Bridal style. Arms and all. He looked like he was ready to kill anyone who stared at you too long. Honestly? Kind of romantic.”
“He did not,” I mumbled, heat rising to my checks.
“Oh yes. I saw it from the hallway. He wouldn’t even let the maids breathe near you.”

That doesn’t mean anything.” I argued, frowning.

She raised an eyebrow. “Then how did you faint in his car and wake up in an upstairs bedroom like a damn princess?”
I went quiet.
Exactly.
Kathleen giggled, looping her arm through mine. “You’re blushing. I love it. This is better than any vampire romance novel I’ve read.”
I groaned and covered my face. “Please stop.”
