“Don’t worry too much, it’s just temporary. As long as you take good care of your eyes, it will be okay.” Natasha said and she seemed to have stood up from her seat. Anyway, have fun you two lovebirds. I’ll go and see my great grandson.”

Feeling her left the room, leaving the two of us, I couldn’t help but think about her explanation regarding my eyes. But since it was temporary blindness and it will restore if I take good care of it, it made my breath a sigh in relief.

After all, I cannot remain blind especially since I have a lot of duties and responsibilities to do.

Aside from being the Luna of both Nightshade and Crescent Moon, I am a mother and a wife also.

I reached out, gently patting Lucien’s head. “Hear that? My eyes will be fine and besides, I’m starting to get hung up with this situation. It will be fine and you don’t have to be guilty about it because it was my fault for being reckless.”

“I felt useless…” he whispered. “If I had moved faster that night, maybe I would be able to save our son right away before you could come—”

I cupped his cheeks in my hands, lifting his face toward me. Leaning down, I pressed my lips gently against his.

“It already happened,” I whispered between soft kisses. “If you keep blaming yourself—if you keep feeling guilty—then I’ll start apologizing too. For being reckless. For not thinking about how you would feel.”

My words seemed to reach him. I felt the tension in his body ease, just a little.

Then he nipped at my lip, not hard enough to hurt, but enough to make me hiss softly.

“You really didn’t consider my feelings at all,” he murmured.

And somehow, despite the reproach, there was no anger in it-only relief, fear, and the lingering echo of love that refused to fade.

The corner of my lips raised as we both tacitly changed the subject. “I feel sticky-help me take a bath.”

Before he could open his mouth, I pinched his cheeks. “Don’t think of any sensual thoughts.”

He let out a soft chuckle, grabbing my wrist and kissing it. “I’m not a beast who would take advantage in this situation.”

I rolled my eyes at him. “I’m just saying.”

While we were in the bathroom-or rather, while I soaked in the tub filled with warm water-Lucien took care of me. He stood behind me, carefully working shampoo into my hair, his fingers massaging my scalp before rinsing it clean

The quiet, steady rhythm of his movements slowly eased the tension from my body.

“By the way,” I said softly, breaking the silence, “have you found the mastermind behind the base in Hollow Glen Forest?

I paused, then added, “The one responsible for kidnapping our son-and the other children?”

He paused for a bit before he continued rinsing my hair. “I have sent Arnold and Nick to investigate it.”

Hearing that, my brows lifted in sudden realization. “You didn’t resume your duties to the pack?”

#didn’t, he admitted quietly. “I stayed with you the entire time. I didn’t want anyone touching you… or even seeing you like that He paused, then exhaled softly. “And I was afraid my emotions would cloud my judgment, so I asked Kathleen to take over temporarily.”

There was a calmness to his voice, but I could hear it-the embarrassment, the guilt beneath it.

“My emotions weren’t in the right place, he continued

“Back then, I watched you fall into that deep slumber. It took you a month to wake up.” His voice lowered. “I kept thinking… what if next time it took months again? Or worse-years?”

Hearing his explanation, guilt washed over me.

“I won’t do it again,” I said softly. “I won’t make you worry like that anymore.”

“Of course you won’t.” He clicked his tongue lightly. “There won’t be a next time.”

I let out a small chuckle and nodded. “Then you’ll have to keep a close eye on me and protect me. No complaining.”

“Of course,” he replied without hesitation, leaning down to press a tender kiss to my lips. “It’s an Alpha’s duty to protect his beloved Luna.”

The corners of my lips lifted at his words. Before things could go any further, I gently pushed him away.

“I want to visit Grandma,” I said. “I forgot to ask her about Kaya’s situation.”

He continued washing my arms, working soap gently into my skin before rinsing it away. “Kaya?” he repeated thoughtfully.

“Wasn’t she with us that night?” He paused. “Now that you mention it… that was her first appearance in three whole years.”

“Well,” I sighed, “I was thinking that the reason she fell into such a deep slumber… might have been because of me.”

“What do you mean?” he asked, draining the tub of its soapy bubbles before carefully rinsing me clean. He lifted me out a moment later, wrapping a towel snugly around my body.

“You’ve heard about my mother’s situation, right?” I asked.

‘Of course. What about it?”

“It seems she was afraid I would end up like my mother,” I explained calmly. “She grew weaker while pregnant with me. Kaya must’ve sensed that-and fell into a deep slumber so all her energy could be used to replenish mine.”

The corners of my lips lifted slightly. “Because of her, I didn’t turn out like my mother… weakened at birth.”

I felt his arms tighten around me.

“I…” he exhaled slowly. “I never thought of that.”

“It’s fine,” I said with a soft chuckle, gently patting his head.

“I forgot too. I was too confident that I’d be fine.”

He frowned faintly. “Still… I should’ve considered your background more carefully Your mother suffered so much giving birth to you. Who knows if you would’ve gone through the same.”

“It already happened,” I said quietly. “And we owe a lot to Kaya. She’s sleeping again now–helping me recover”

brushed the thought aside with a light chuckle, but no words could truly express how shocked-and grateful–I was.

Because what if I had grown weaker when I

Or worse.

gave birth?

I couldn’t imagine leaving this world so easily. Not when I had my Alpha. Not when I had my son. And the important people in this world.

I shook my head, forcing those thoughts away.

“We really have to be careful this time…” he murmured.

My brows lifted. “Careful about what?”

He guided me to the bed, then turned toward the wardrobe, selecting clothes for me. He helped me dress-quietly, carefully -before raising his head, seemed to look at me.

“We have to be careful,” he said calmly, “not to get you pregnant again.”

I nearly choked on my own saliva.

I wanted to roll my eyes at him, but instead, I reached out and pinched his nose. “Pregnant? Didn’t Agnes and Grandma already tell us I can’t get pregnant a second time? Our son is already more than enough.”

After he finished dressing me, his arms slipped around my waist, holding me close. “I know that,” he said quietly. “But what if an accident happens?”

I let out a soft chuckle. “Then it’d be best for us to abstain.”

I felt him pause, as if he was debating hard about it. “O…Okay. We’ll abstain.”

Hearing this, I couldn’t help but let out a loud laugh, which made him tighten his arms around my waist.

“What are you laughing? Do you not believe me?” He frowned.

I chuckled, shaking my head. “Are you really sure you can abstain from it?”

I felt him pause again that made me chuckle.
