Alexander’s lips curved into a faint yet icy smile, his voice laced with danger and allure. “No rush, my partner. You should know by now–you already belong to me.”
I felt butterflies thrashing in my stomach. Even though I knew he meant our partnership, the tone in his voice made my body tense instinctively. I fought to suppress the desire spreading within me and replied as steadily as I could, “I need to know the details.”
Lucien slowly shrugged off his coat, his movements casual yet elegant. The broad lines of his shoulders were clearly visible, making it a little hard for me to breathe. He placed a manila folder in front of me, and as he leaned in, his face came dangerously close to mine–I could feel his warm breath brushing against my neck.
I instinctively reached out to open the folder, my fingertips trembling slightly as they touched the paper.
Photos. Surveillance stills. A wire transfer record.
“This is the proof that Faye hired thugs to attack you,” Lucien said, his voice low and magnetic, as if it could pierce right through me. “The time, the location, the individuals involved–it’s all there. The transfer was laundered through three separate accounts, but we still traced it back to the source.”
I looked up at him, my gaze freezing with sudden cold. “Does Alexander know?”
‘He couldn’t not know.” Lucien gave a cold laugh, sharp with danger. “Faye’s his toy. Of course he’d protect her. But the problem is, she’s not just his woman anymore–she tried to murder the current Luna.”
What does that mean?” I leaned back in my chair, trying to keep my voice level.
It means, if we go public with this evidence, Alexander will be forced to choose between you and her. If he keeps shielding Faye, he’ll face the judgment of the entire Council.” Lucien stepped closer, his presence almost suffocating. “And we can use hat opportunity to push the bill forward.”
You’re sure the Council will side with me?” I asked, heart racing as I looked into his eyes.
‘I’ll back you,” Lucien said, his voice low but really intense. There was a burning resolve in his eyes. “You know full well–my yearly donations to the Council are enough to buy their silence.”
He moved even closer, one long finger resting casually on the back of my chair, effectively caging me in. His voice deepened into a rasp. “But your proposal is unprecedented. You want to shatter a century of tradition–to let females become alphas. It won’t be easy, but you’re not fighting alone.”
I nodded. I felt bitter too. Female wolves were held to much higher standards than males. When a she–wolf was raped, they blamed her for dressing provocatively. They said she was too emotional to judge pack matters rationally–even though many she–wolves were now far stronger than the males.
“I won’t give up,” I said, locking eyes with him, my voice firm though slightly trembling. “No matter how hard it gets, I’ll see it through.”
“That’s what I want to hear. Just like when Alexander first betrayed you and you came to me without hesitation.” Lucien smirked, wild and heart–racing. “And you know–I never lose.”
I bit my lower lip, my heartbeat nearly unbearable. “Why are you helping me? I know you’ll say it’s because you need nie to be your Luna, but-

He cut me off sharply, his eyes dark and consuming. “Remember this: I only do what I want. I’ve never needed a reason.”
He slowly straightened up, putting space between us, but the heat in the air lingered. “It’s late. You need rest. By the time you wake up, all these questions will be gone.”
The door closed softly behind him as he left the room. Yet I could still feel his dangerous, seductive presence, unable to calm my racing thoughts.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. Three years ago, I thought I had married the hero of the pack–a gentle yet decisive partner. Now, I realized it was nothing more than an opening act for domination and control.
My thoughts were interrupted by a sudden vibration.
My phone buzzed on the desk.
Caller ID: Alexander.
I stared at the screen, finger hovering over the Answer button.
Lucien watched me, saying nothing. I nodded and pressed speaker.
“Scarlett.” Alexander’s voice was always dipped in ice water–calm, composed. “I want to know if you’ve calmed down.”
I laughed–not a happy laugh, but one so sarcastic it almost scraped the air.
“I nearly died in a car crash orchestrated by your little mistress. How calm do you think I should be?”
There was a brief silence on the other end.
“You’re alive, aren’t you?” he finally said, lazily. “No irreversible damage.”
“You know that’s not the point.”
“You and Lucien make quite the pair.”
My brow furrowed.
“He’s even willing to mobilize the entire Council’s resources for you.”
“What do you mean?”
Alexander chuckled faintly. “You really think you’ve broken free from me? Scarlett, no matter where you go, my mark is still on you. You’re my Luna. I hope you never forget that.”
I held my breath, refusing to let even a flicker of emotion show.
“So you’ll drop the charges?” I asked.
“Of course,” he answered without hesitation. “Restoring your reputation–that’s my gesture of goodwill.”
I gave no reply.
Before the call ended, he added, “You’ll always belong to me.”
My knuckles whitened around the phone.
