Scarlett
I was awoken by the sunlight that hit my face the. I squinted my eyes and let out a soft groan while instinctively touching the burning mark on my neck that reminds me of the painful reality that I’m still being shackled by this so–called bond.
‘Kaya?‘ I softly whispered in my mind, trying to find the traces of my wolf who had been greatly affected by the bond.
Yet as expected, she didn’t respond.
And I can’t feel her either.
1 let out a heavy sigh. Kaya had always veen the one piece of me that remained unbroken, even when everything else. shattered. Losing her felt like losing half of me.
I should gave her time to breath, maybe she’ll come out and talk to me again once she’s fine.
Knock. Knock.
I snapped back from my thoughts and glanced at my door that had been knocked two times.
I sat up, wiped my face, and made sure that I’m composed enough to open the door before I walked towards the door.
Kathleen stood there, dressed sharply, and her hair tied back which made her look gorgeous and cool at the same time.
“What’s up?” I asked.
“We have the welcome banquet tonight,” she said. “I booked a boutique and a stylist. You’ll need a dress for tonight.”
I hesitated. “Kathleen, you don’t have-”
“Don’t think it’s too much,” she interrupted softly. “You’re going to be introduced as a political force tonight so we have to make sure that no one will look down on you.”
Her tone made it impossible for me to protest.
In the end, I was convinced and followed her.
The boutique she had chosen was a grand one, I could even see the dresses they displayed from the outside. And inside, the air smelled like silk and quiet money.
One could clearly tell that this was one of the famous boutiques that wolves usually shop to.
I scanned the racks, trying to find which dress would catch my interest today, until I saw which one is it.
A moonlight–blue silk gown, draped elegantly, structured with precision. It looked elegant, and at the same time, dazzling.
As I was about to reach for it, another hand caught the fabric, making me pause.
I looked up.
A woman stood there–same height with me, and her eyes were sharply looking at me with disdain.
“You’re that woman?” I heard her murmured.

I frowned, but I still gave her a polite smile. “Do I know you?”
Her face reddened. “You don’t even know me?! Which country bumpkin are you?!“.
“But I don’t really know you.”
Before the woman could curse, Kathleen immediately stepped between us as she looked at the woman.
“Amanda” she said. “You’re being rude.”
Amanda sneered and ignored her. Instead, she looked at me.
“Our territory has standards and definitely this woman can’t keep tup. It’d be embarrassing to see someone like her wear something this refined.”
I rubbed my temples and sighed helplessly. I don’t want to engage with any unnecessary drama.
You can take it.”
Amanda blinked, caught off guard. “What?”
“I’ll find another dress.” I said. “You can take it
You-
Before she could finish her words, I looked at Kathleen and pointed another gown.
“I want that one.”
It was a deep emerald silk, structured and fitting. It was pleasing to the eye.
Kathleen swallowed the rest of her words, gazing coldly at Amanda before we both went to buy the gown I chose, paying it using a Nightshade card.
Back at the estate, after I showered and changed into a loose shirt, I say oj the living room couch with my hair towel–dried while sighing.
Kathleen returned with two cups of herabl tea, setting one beside me.
“Drink,” she said. “It helps with tension.”
She sat with me, and knowing that I was thinking deeply about something, she didn’t say anything and just accompany
I was about to thank her for today when my phone buzzed.
I took it out and glanced at Lucien’s message.
Turn on the news. The conference started!
I frowned.
What conference?
Despite the doubt, I grabbed the remote and turned on the television.
My eyes fell onto the man who was the main character of the news.

Chapter 19
65 vurners
Dozens of microphones pointed toward one man, he was wearing a black suit, his tie was immaculate, and he was performing in front of everyone, answering their questions perfectly.
“I misunderstood Scarlett,” he told reporters with convincing regret. “She didn’t betray me. She just needs time to heal. I still recognize her as my Luna.”
He was at it agaun, playing victim to the media.
Did he learn all of this by being with his mistress?
My knuckles whitened around the remote.
“That son of a bitch, Kathleen whispered, voice shaking–not from fear but disgust. “He wants to control you and bound you to him!”
I stared at the TV, heartbeat pounding like war drums.
He didn’t clear my name to help me.
He cleared it to reclaim me.
To make sure no Alpha could advocate for me without looking like a poacher.
To make sure I couldn’t build alliances.
To make sure Lucien wouldn’t dare make a move without looking like he was seducing a helpless, fragile Luna who just needed “time.”
Alexander hadn’t silenced me.
He’d silenced everyone else.
I swallowed hard. “He’s faster than I thought.”
Kathleen leaned forward, voice low. “Scarlett–what are you going to do?”
Something cold unfurled in my chest.
“I’m done reacting to him.” I said. “I’m going on the offensive.”
She nodded once, solemn.
“What do you need? Is there anything I can help you with?”
