Chapter 182
Scarlett
“D…Did I do wrong?” Archer’s voice was filled with confusion as his gaze fell on me. “Mama… what’s wrong with your eyes?”
I paused, torn between telling him the truth and protecting him from it.
“Don’t lie to me like Papa did, Mama,” Archer added softly. I could feel his gaze on me, sharp and insistent, and it made me swallow the words I had prepared.
I let out a quiet chuckle. “What did Papa lie to you about?”
Archer buried his face against my neck. “He said you were busy handling the cases of the kids you saved.” His voice wavered. “But I found out he lied. You actually fell into a deep slumber.”
At that, I instinctively turned my head to the right–to glare at Lucien.
Only to remember that I couldn’t.
I clenched my jaw and reached out, pinching the hand resting at my waist.
“Bad Papa.”
I turned my attention back to our son. “I already punished your Papa,” I said gently. “And he promised he won’t do it again. Will you forgive him?”
Archer pouted, then tilted his head toward Lucien, clearly waiting.
When Lucien didn’t.respond right away, I pinched his hand again.
“Yes,” he said at last, his tone calm but helpless. “I won’t do it again.”
That seemed to satisfy Archer. He nodded firmly. “Okay. I forgive you, Papa.”
‘Since you forgave me,” Lucien said, extending his arms, “come here and let Papa hug you. Mama is still recovering.”
The moment Archer heard that, he went to Lucien without hesitation.
I let out a helpless chuckle. It wasn’t like I couldn’t carry him–he was light, hardly heavy at all.
For a moment, I thought we had successfully changed the topic.
But then-

“Mama,” Archer asked again, his voice quieter this time, more careful. “Can you tell me what happened to your eyes?” He hesitated. “What’s wrong with them? Is it… hurting?”
In the end, I had no other choice but to tell him the truth about it.
“Mama is currently experiencing temporary blindness but it will be better as long as I take good care of my eyes,” I gently explained to him, afraid that he would be sad about it.
And just as I expected, I already heard him sniffing.

Chapter 182
Does it hurt mama? Your eyes were bleeding that night…” he asked in between sniffing and I could hear Lucien gently patting his back.
“Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt at all.” Vsoftly answered to not worry him further.
But it really doesn’t hurt at all–it’s just that… I felt uncomfortable that everything was dark. Every one of my senses was heightened. Since my eyes temporarily don’t work, I have to rely on my other senses to continue with my daily life.
“You’re not lying to comfort me, are you?” he asked sharply.
I let out a soft chuckle, shaking my head. “I don’t.”
Before he could ask further, I hurriedly changed the subject. “By the way, I’d like to meet your friend whom you called brother. Where is he? I heard he already woke up.”
“Ah, you’re talking about Claude?” His voice raises in excitement. “He’s standing in front of you, mama. On the left side, near the pillar.”
Hearing this, I instinctively looked in front of me where Archer had pointed and couldn’t help but be furrowed. I couldn’t feel his presence at all. If Archer didn’t point it out, I wouldn’t have felt that there was another person aside from us.
However, I gulped down all my questions and doubts–I’ll just ask Lucien about it later especially that when I went to save him that night too, he also barely had a presence with him, as if he was a shadow.
Is this the reason why those five men who had surrounded me that night didn’t leave a final blow on him, thinking that he already died?
Now that I think about it, the more I get curious about his background and what family he is from. Just like those other kids who got kidnapped, I doubt that his family is from this city. It should be from another city, but the problem is that even Nightshade’s best intel couldn’t find any traces about this young man.
“Mama?”
I snapped back from my thoughts upon hearing Archer’s voice, hiding all those doubts in my heart and ‘look‘ in the direction of the young man, smiling gently.
“Your name is Claude right?” I softly said. “Thank you for saving my son. You even received a lot of wounds because of it and almost died.”
My hand reached out instinctively to find out where he is, and I felt him this time, move so that I could reach hum.
The corner of my lips raised as I patted his head. “You’re such a brave kid.”
୮
“It’s nothing,” I heard him answer with a hoarse voice. It must be because of the wound from his neck where he got slit. “Besides, you and your Alpha had saved me too so it’s a given.”
I patted his head again. “It was nothing. It was the adults responsibility to handle the adults matter.”
“That’s what Claude said earlier to me too!” I heard Archer’s energetic shout from my right side who was currently being held by Lucien, and couldn’t help but chuckle about it.
Even Claude let out a soft chuckle and didn’t say anything.
However, I couldn’t find nor scent any trace of malice this young man had towards my son.
Yet, I can’t be so sure. I still have to monitor him. Otherwise, it would be a big problem if he just approached my son for another purpose like what Nanny had done.

Chapter 182
But Fkind of like this young than to stay with my son. After all, he had already seen Claude as his brother, as his first ever friend.
“Claude,” I called out. “Is it okay to ask you some questions?”
I felt him paused. “Is it about my parents?”
I was surprise at how he easily caught up.
I nodded my head and didn’t bother to hide it. “Yes. JusNike the other kids, we had investigated about their background so that it would be easily for us to determine their family ties and we can contact them to come and get their child.”
“And? Did you investigate my background too and found out that you can’t find it?” he asked.
I was about to nod my head and was about to answer when I heard Lucien speak.
“Let’s go inside. It’s getting sunny and Scarlett’s eyes cannot be exposed to the sun directly.”
Hearing this, the four of us went inside to the house and sat on our room while the two kids were sitting next to each other at the sofa while facing us.
There was also a variety of snacks that was placed on the medium–size rounded table in between of the sofa that the cook had sent to fill our stomach.
Which of course, is tempting for the kids and even Claude couldn’t resist too.
While Lucien was feeding me with a soup, I heard Claude asked again while crunching biscuits.
“You’re curious about where I came from, right?”
I nodded my head and didn’t bother to hide it. “Yes. After all, we couldn’t find anything about you. I hope you won’t take it to heart. We just don’t want anything happen to our son again.”
