Chapter 196
Scarlett
While everyone was in the training, I couldn’t help but do the same. They tried to stop me earlier for fear that if will hurt my body especially that I’m still in my recovery process.
Honestly, my whole body feels good and I have been recovered fully except for my eyes that remained the same and there were no signs of it recovered.
“Are you sure you want to train?” I snapped from my thoughts when I heard Kathleen’s voice, who was jogging with me.
I let out a heavy sigh. “Yeah. After all, the enemies were swarming everyone and who knows when they would decide to infiltrate the Nightshade.”
I paused and heavily added. “Honestly, I’m the one who seemed the weakest here and needed protection.”
“Don’t say that,” Kathleen says, her voice was rough. “No one thinks that way.”
“The enemies do,” I calmly answered. “That’s why I have to get used to this darkness, sharpened and honed my line of hearing and used it as my temporary eye–no, I’ll use all of my senses as my temporary sight.”
The sweat seemed to have slid down from my face down to my body as I joined Kathleen from jogging a lap around the oval. It was a good thing that according to Kathleen, it wasn’t that hot right now since it’s afternoon so I can train for all I want. I was still wearing the cap on my head to prevent my eyes from any lights that could damage it further.
After jogging for a while, running a few laps, I felt my son’s presence, running towards my direction. “What’s up?” I softly asked, as my hand gently reached at him, patting his head that was wet with his sweat. “Mom, I’m going to shower with Claude,” he said while Claude was following behind him.
I nodded my head. “Do you want me to help you?”
He shook his head. “No need, mama. We can manage.”
Remembering that he used to take a bath on his own just to avoid us from seeing his wounds, I couldn’t help but worry.
And it seemed that Claude sense it.
“Don’t worry, Luna. I’m here.” Claude said with a calm yet serious tone. “I won’t let anything happen to Archer and besides, he isn’t injured either.”
It seems I was thinking too much. It’s just a normal bath.
I let out a soft chuckle, rubbing my hand to their heads. “Okay, go on. I’ll send Shun to protect you from the outside so just call out if something happens.”
“We know, mama.” I heard my son says as he turned his head to Claude. “Let’s go. I feel so sticky. I’ve never been this sticky before.”
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but chuckle and turned my back at them, smiling as I softly asked. “Where’s Shun?”
“I’m here, Luna.”
I nodded. “Can you follow those two little ones and protect them?”
Without a hint of hesitation, Shun agreed. “It would be my honor, Luna.”

A MA
“Just guard their bathroom. If you hear anything suspicious, inform us immediately–and go inside to check,” I instructed.
Shun nodded firmly. “Understood, Luna. I’ll get going.”
With that, he sprinted after the two youngsters and quickly caught up with them.
I let out a heavy sigh, rubbing my throbbing temples.
Maybe I was being overly cautious–paranoid, even–but I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching us.
Watching me.
Ever since that night at the bar, I had felt it clearly–a gaze that wasn’t casual or curious, but sharp and deliberate. As if someone had been scrutinizing me from head to toe, dissecting my strengths… and my weaknesses.
“You’ve been thinking too much lately, Sca,” Kathleen said gently, worry lacing her voice as she patted my shoulder.
“Don’t worry. The Nightshade’s security has been tightened. Lucien has been patrolling the borders himself with the guards to make sure no rogues slip in.”
I knew that.
I really did.
And yet… my unease refused to fade.
Maybe it was because I had lost my eyesight. Maybe the darkness surrounding me had heightened everything else–every sound, every presence, every imagined threat.
Or maybe… the enemies truly were out there.
Lurking in the shadows.
Waiting for the right moment to reach out and grab me.
I shook my head, forcing myself to stop overthinking. I knew if I let my thoughts spiral any further, it would only worry the others.
“Shall we continue?” I asked, turning toward the sharp clash of wooden swords colliding at the center of the training ground. “I want to train too.”
At my words, the sparring immediately stopped. Footsteps rushed toward me, and a wooden sword was carefully placed into my hand.
“Let’s go, Luna! We want to see if you’re still as unbeatable as before!” one of the warriors said eagerly.
“Are you sure you want to train?” Kathleen asked, her concern unmistakable.
I didn’t turn back. “There’s no harm in training. I know you’re worried, but don’t be—I’ll protect my eyes.”
She sighed. “Just don’t be reckless. If you get hurt, how am I supposed to explain it to my damn brother?”
I couldn’t help but chuckle, nodding as I stepped into the center of the ground–the place where friendly duels and hard lessons were learned.
The wooden sword felt familiar in my right hand.
Closing my eyes, I relied on my other senses–footsteps, breathing, the subtle shift of air–as I locked onto my opponent.

Chapter 196
Garrick.
CERAM CREA.
He was already in his stance.
“Don’t blame me if I defeat you, Luna,” Garrick said playfully.
The corner of my lips lifted. “Sure,” I replied lightly. “But don’t expect me to go down without a fight.”
“Which one do you bet to win?” I heard Kathleen’s voice as if she was an announcer because of how loud her voice were
“I bet the Luna!”
“Garrick has an advantage, I’ll bet on Garrick!”
Hearing those loud voices of them, betting which one who would win, I let out a heavy sigh and couldn’t help but chuckle, especially when Kathleen was collecting payments from it.
Probably she would use the monet to treat herself to a drink.
Should I let Garrick win?
As if Kathleen had read my thoughts, she shouted. “Don’t you dare lose, Sca! I don’t have money with me so do me a favor and let me earn a little!”
I couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking my head at her words.
Before I could speak, Garrick moved first.
I felt it before I heard it–the faint scrape of his boot against the packed earth, the air shifting as his shoulder rolled forward. His strike came fast, angled to test my reaction.
I tilted my head, letting the wooden blade whistle past my cheek, and stepped inside his reach.
The thud of our swords colliding echoed across the ground.
“Fast,” Garrick muttered, surprised.
I smiled.
I didn’t chase his blade. I listened to it. After all, that’s all I could do in this situation. I have to rely on my other senses to defend myself and attack.
His breathing was controlled but uneven–he was cautious, measuring, and testing the difference of my strength when my eyesight is still there or not. I followed the rhythm, counting the space between his steps, the hesitation before each swing.
He feinted left.
I didn’t bite.
