Chapter 197
Chapter 197
Scarlett
After an hour of friendly sparring, especially after I had defeated Garrick twice, the other warriors eagerly asked for a match as well. I accepted without hesitation. The more I trained, the more my body adapted–moving naturally despite the darkness surrounding me.
Strangely enough, my senses felt sharper than ever. Heightened. Surging. Far more refined than before.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Kaya had something to do with it.
As for Kathleen, she was busy on the sidelines–cheerfully collecting payments from the earlier match between Garrick and me, counting the coins she earned from the bets with obvious delight.
“As expected from the Luna,” some of them commented. “Even without your eyesight, you’re still strong.”
I chuckled softly. “You’ve all improved too. But there are still things you need to work on- and even your voices. Especially when facing someone like me.”
-your footsteps, your breathing,
I tapped the wooden sword lightly against the ground.
“When fighting an opponent who relies on senses, everything gives you away–the shift of air, breathing patterns, the weight of your steps. Even hesitation can be heard.”
“Yes, Luna! We’ll train harder!” they shouted in unison.
“If you want proper pointers,” I added, “you can ask Nick.”
Their auras shifted slightly at the mention of his name.
“He moves like a shadow,” I continued. “He doesn’t announce his presence. If you can learn even half of that, you’ll improve greatly. You could also ask Lucien–the two of them move almost the same.”
“Okay, Luna! We’ll ask Nick!” they cheered.
“Not the Alpha?” I teased.
“The Alpha has been busy lately,” Garrick answered quickly.
“But Nick has been busy too,” I added. “He’s always with the Alpha.”
The warriors exchanged looks before quickly changing targets.
“Then… we’ll just ask for your guidance instead, Luna.”
I couldn’t help but chuckle.
From their reactions, it was clear–they feared and respected Lucien deeply. But when it came to Nick… there was something different. A quieter, sharper fear.
Why?
I could sense it in their auras–unease. Their fear of the Alpha was overwhelming, but their fear of Nick was… cautious. Controlled.
“Why do you fear Nick?” I asked out of pure curiosity.

They froze for a moment, then laughed awkwardly.
“It’s not fear exactly,” Garrick said sheepishly. “It’s more like… we know better than to mess with him. Or Arnold.”
I tilted my head, frowning. “Why? What happened?”
Garrick hesitated before speaking.
“It happened a while back. A drunk Alpha entered our territory and demanded to meet our Alpha. But you, Luna, and the Alpha were both at the Crescent Moon at the time, so Arnold received him instead and politely asked him to return the next day.”
He paused, his voice darkening.
“But when that Alpha saw Arnold, he thought he was a woman. He started making advances–asking him to drink, offering, money, bragging about his wealth.”
My grip on the wooden sword tightened.
“Arnold stayed polite and rejected him,” Garrick continued. “But the man grabbed his wrist–he was about to force himself
on him.”
Their voices lowered.
“That was when Nick arrived. Along with us.”
They shivered.
“It was a one–sided massacre. We’ve never seen Nick like that before. His aura was overflowing with killing intent. He nearly killed that Alpha–broke bones, battered him beyond recognition–and then threw his body outside the gates.”
They swallowed.
“He didn’t even care if the man would survive… or be eaten by wild wolves.”
Silence settled around us.
I finally understood.
“But despite the fear,” Garrick added quietly, “we respect him. He protected Arnold.”
I exhaled slowly.
I see.
So there was a reason for it.
That drunk man deserved every bit of what he got. How dare he try to lay his filthy hands on someone from our pack? It was
a good thing Nick was there–otherwise, I didn’t even want to imagine what could’ve happened to Arnold.
Speaking of which… those two really were close.
Too close.
Was it because they were childhood friends?
Or because Arnold had been there for Nick during his darkest days–when he lost his entire family and walked the bloody path of revenge against the brother who slaughtered them all?

After all, we tend to be close to the person we shared strength, comfort, silence and even survive the hell together. That’s why it was no wonder why they were close.
“Nick and Arnold really have a good relationship,” one of the warriors muttered.
The others hummed in agreement.
“Right,” Kathleen chimed in lazily. “They’re more like lovers than brothers.”
I rolled my eyes but couldn’t stop the chuckle that escaped me. “They’re just brothers.”
Kathleen sneered. “Yeah? I doubt that. Besides, both of them are still single.”
“They’re just busy with Nightshade affairs,” I defended instinctively. “Who knows–after the war, they might start looking for their fated Lunas.”
Even as I said it, an image surfaced in my mind–Nick and Arnold standing side by side, moving like one shadow. /
…Damn it.
I shook my head sharply, feeling guilty for even entertaining Kathleen’s nonsense.
“You think so too?”
I snapped out of my thoughts as the warriors subtly swarmed around Kathleen.
“I kinda think there is something going on between them,” Reo whispered, glancing around nervously like he expected death to descend if either of the two heard him.
Kathleen’s eyes
lit up. “Right? And they look hella good together.”
I rubbed my forehead, laughing under my breath.
These idiots.
“Who looks good together?”
The entire area went dead silent.
Every single one of us froze.
That calm, familiar voice-
Arnold.
The Arnold that we had been talking about.
I couldn’t help but feel guilty for talking about the two of them and thinking about Nick and him together.
This is all Kathleen’s fault!
I could smell disinfectant clinging faintly to him–he must’ve just stepped out of his laboratory. His footsteps approached steadily, unhurried, deadly calm as he approached us with curiosity.
Especially since he had probably noticed that instead of training, we were all gathered in one place, blatantly chit–chatting.
“Did one of the warriors find their Luna?” he asked, genuine curiosity lacing his voice.
The air turned awkwardly stiff,

Sensing the collective guilt hanging over everyone–caught red–handed–I sighed helplessly and rubbed my forehead
“It’s not that,” I answered.
I could feel his gaze shift toward me, sharp and assessing, so I added calmly, “We were talking about how Kathleen and his Alpha look good together.”
I could hear their collective sighs of relief the moment my words left my mouth. They nodded eagerly, almost too eagerly. “Right, right!” one of them hurriedly chimed in. “We were talking about how good they look together!”
