Chapter 198
Scarlett
I let the cold water cascade over my skin, washing away the sweat and grime that had clung to me after the friendly matches.
I scrubbed every inch carefully, making sure the sticky, uncomfortable feeling was gone. The soap lathered over my body, warm and soothing, while I massaged a generous scoop of shampoo into my hair, working it through thoroughly before rinsing it clean with the cool water.
After I was done bathing, I took the towel and wrapped it around my body before I left the bathroom, heading straight to my wardrobe and took out something to wear.
I fiddled the clothes with my hands before choosing what to m wear. A loose shirt and pants. As for the color and what it looks like, I can’t imagine either.
Usually, it’s Lucien who would choose something for me to wear and would help me wear it on my body and since he wasn’t here–I just chose something random in my closet.
I raised my hand, couldn’t help but touch the blindfold Natasha had given to me. It was marvelous that even when I still wore this while bathing, the blindfold showed no signs of being wet. It’s like the water just slid down when it hit my blindfold instead of being absorbed.
I stopped touching it, instead, I tried to remember from my memories where Lucien had put the blower so that I could dry my hair.
While I was in the middle of trying to find it, I suddenly heard a knock coming from the room.
Lucien?
Did he come back from patrolling the boarders? That was fast.
Perfect timing, I could just ask him to blow dry my hair since it’s dripping on the ground.
I walked with accuracy towards the door and grabbed the handle, opening it.
Wait.
Would Lucien knock on our own room?
However, it was already too late.
I have already opened the room.
Fuck!
A hand lunged toward my face, deliberately aiming for my eyes. Whoever this man was, he had clearly been briefed–he knew my weakness.
I dodged instantly, creating distance between us, and swung my arm forward, driving a heavy punch toward him.
He caught my wrist.
I struggled, twisting against his grip. “Who are you?” I snarled. “What do you want?”
“Please come with me, Luna,” he said calmly. “Otherwise… we cannot guarantee the safety of your heir.”
My eyes widened.

Chapter 198
“What did you do to my son?!” I screamed. Rage tore through me as I yanked my wrist free. The air shifted to my left–1 reacted on instinct, lifting my leg and slamming my heel hard into his stomach.
He coughed violently as his body crashed against the wall.
“You leave me no choice,” he muttered, straightening slowly. “The lord never said you had to come without wounds.”
I clenched my teeth, my heart racing.
Shun was with them. He had been protecting the youngsters–I knew he would fight with everything he had.
But the man standing before me sounded far too confident, as if the children were already in his grasp.
Judging by his deep voice, he was in his mid–thirties–an Alpha. Tall. Not quite as tall as my mate, but still well over six feet.
My chest tightened.
I have to get to my sons. They were the real target.
I didn’t have time to deal with this man–but I knew he wouldn’t let me leave so easily.
Fuck.
I was about to slip away–nothing mattered more than my son.
“Where do
you
think you’re going, Luna?” he chuckled darkly.
His grip clamped around my wrist. A sharp snap echoed as my bone shattered.
White pain exploded up my arm. My face drained of color as I bit down hard on my lip, tasting blood–using it to anchor myself, to stay conscious.
Just as despair threatened to swallow me, the man who had broken my wrist was suddenly hurled across the room. His body slammed into the wall with a violent thud, followed by a furious growl.
“Oh? I thought you’re alone?” the man laughed hoarsely as he staggered upright. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll kill them all and present you to our lord.”
Huh? What does he mean by that?
“Don’t worry, Luna. I’ll protect you.”
That voice-
I froze.
Kane.
I thought he was stationed at Crescent Moon. How was he here?
As if reading my thoughts, he said calmly, “The Alpha contacted me last night. He ordered me to guard you from the shadows. I’m sorry I was late.”
I shook my head. Late didn’t matter.
Last night…
I suddenly remembered telling Lucien that I felt someone watching me at the bar. I had thought he brushed it off–after everything that followed, I’d forgotten about it entirely.

But he hadn’t.
He’d acted immediately.
“Kane!” I shouted. “The children–they’re targeting the children!”
“Can you manage?” he asked sharply. “I’ll hold him off and follow right after.”
Relief surged through me. We were thinking the same thing.
“Thank you!” I said, already turning away. “I’ll get the kids!”
“Not so fast-!”
I felt a murderous intent rush toward me, fast and heavy–but I didn’t look back. I didn’t hesitate.
Because I trusted Kane to stop him and deal with him while I’ll go get the kids, making sure that they are safe.
Fuck. Fuck. Please–please be safe.
I ran.
Pain ripped through my body with every step, my broken wrist screaming in protest. I slammed into walls, stumbled blindly through corridors, but I didn’t slow down.
Nothing mattered except them.
“Archer!” I screamed. “Claude!”
My voice echoed uselessly through the halls.
No answer.
Cold dread wrapped around my heart as I staggered toward the bathroom, following the mental map I’d memorized of the mansion.
Just as I reached the door, a hand grabbed my wrist.
“Luna?”
The voice was familiar–confused, alarmed.
“What’s wrong?”
It felt as if someone had handed me water in the middle of a scorching desert.
I grabbed his wrist. “Where are the kids?”
“They’re playing in the tub, Luna,” he answered quickly.
“What’s wrong? Is something–”
“Someone came to target them.” I cut in, already pulling away. “I need to check on them.”
I turned and knocked on the bathroom door.
“Claude? Archer?” I called. “Are you there?”
Seconds stretched endlessly. My heart pounded so hard it hurt.

Then-
“Mama? We’re here!”
The sound of their voices shattered the tension in my chest.
Relief flooded me so suddenly my knees nearly gave out. I would’ve collapsed to the floor if Shun hadn’t caught me just in time, steadying me as my body trembled.
My legs shook uncontrollably.
Fuck.
“What really happened, Luna?” I heard Shun asked, his tone was filled with worry. “Did someone infiltrate the pack?”
I nodded my head. “Yeah, Kane is currently dealing with him. However, what’s more confusing was that he says he already got the kids.”
I gritted my teeth and was about to speak when the door from the bathroom had opened. The fresh scent of soup and the warm steam had hit my face.
“Mama? What are you doing on the floor?” I heard Archer’s voice.
I immediately rushed towards him, hugging him tightly then glanced towards the little one who was following him and pulled them both to my embrace.
“Are you okay? Nothing happened inside, right?” I gently asked, cupping their faces.
Before they could answer, I raised my head and looked up at Shun. “Help me check if there are no wounds or any signs of bruises in their body.”
However, Claude stopped it.
“There’s no need to. There was no signs of enemies who interrupted our bath,” Claude answered. “Besides, Mr. Shun was there, standing in front of our door to protect us. If anything happens to us, Mr. Shun would be the first to one to know.”
“That’s right, Luna,” Shun agreed. “There was really no signs of enemies here.”
Hearing this, I breath a sigh in relief.
Thank goodness.
“I see… it seems that man had confused me,” I sighed in relied. “It’s a good thing to know that you are all safe.”
Before they could speak, Kane appeared in front of us.
“Did you subdue him?” I asked, referring toward the unknown Alpha who had come to get me.
“I’m sorry, Luna… he got away,” Kane said, his tone calm but serious. “I’m guessing he was testing you–gauging your strength, trying to intimidate your weakness and since he got what he wants, he would probably plan what he would do
next.”
