Get Back The Abandoned Luna (Scarlett and Alexander) novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Scarlett’s POV

Night was heavy, tight against the windows. It didn’t come gently when sleep finally claimed me.

I found myself standing in the council hall. The domed ceilings arched overhead, engulfed in darkness. The air was hot, laden with speechmuffled, garbled, hollow voices, halfuttering things I could not quite understand. Each time I tried to concentrate, the voices melted away, leaving only the uncomfortable sense that they referred to me.

What the hell? A nightmare?

I tried to wake up when I saw a familiar face appear before me. His gaze was locked on mine.

Alexander.

He stood apart, but the space between us felt like a fault line.

Alexander? What are you doing?I tried to speak to him, but I couldn’t even hear my own voice.

I tried to move, but I realized I couldn’t. It felt as if my feet were rooted to the marble floor.

Fuck. I want to wake up. This isn’t even funny anymore. I wanted to move my body, to pinch myself awake, but I couldn’t.

I was stuck, rooted in place.

Suddenly, Alexander’s voice cut through the haze, cold and precise. When the choice comes, remember who stood for you first.”

The air pressed tighter against my chest, making it hard to breathe.

Alexander extended his hand toward me, his expression careful. You are mine, Scarlett. You will always be mine. You cannot escape from your fate of being tied with me. I won’t let you leave me.

His words were the final straw. My eyes reddened with fury. If I could have moved or spoken, I would have already cursed him to his core.

The hell is this scum talking about.

The murmuring voices swelled, crashing like waves against the walls. The shadows around us deepened until I couldn’t see the floor beneath my feet. Suddenly, the floor cracked beneath me, and I yelped as I fell.

When I woke up, it was already dawn. My heart was still pounding from my dreammy nightmare. The faint silver of early morning pressed against the curtains, but I didn’t move to open them. My mind was still caught on what Alexander had said to me in my nightmare.

His words ended up fueling the fire in me and made me resolute to get my proposal approved.

I could feel my wolf, Kaya, pacing inside me, her restlessness spilling into my chest. Her claws scraped at the inside of my mind, impatient and agitated. She didn’t speak in words, but I knew what she wantedshe was ready to end the game.

I took a deep breath and calmed my emotions before I threw back the blankets and dressed in silence.

By the time I reached the kitchen, the sun had just begun to peek over the horizon. Kathleen was already there, her sleeves pushed high onto her elbows, her hands immersed to the wrists in a pile of rising dough. The silent room was filled with the rhythmic pressing and folding of her movements. She didn’t glance up at once, but I was sure she could feel my eyes on her.

I watched her walk towards me with a cup of coffee and give me a flick on my forehead. What’s wrong?

She offered me the coffee, and I thanked her.

Nightmare,I said with a deep sigh.

“Alexander?she asked, looking at my eyes.

I sighed and didn’t hide it from her. Yeah.

Damn, bad luck. Is it because you’ve been thinking about him lately?she said. Her tone was light, but I could sense her irritation.

I paused halfway to the coffee pot. I’m thinking about ending this, not anything else,I said, my voice clipped and sharp. Permanently.”

Kathleen wiped her hands on her apron, turning to face me. That’s a good decision. He’s not worth it. He’s just a scum trying to manipulate a strong womanyouthinking you still love him.

Funny how I believed in him before,I replied, pouring the coffee. The creamy liquid rippled in the cup. One way or another, I don’t want to be tied to him anymore or have any hold over menot even a strand of my hair. He may still use my name as his socalled Luna, but once the bill is approved, he will no longer have the right to claim what was never his in the first place.

She paused a little longer, as though assessing whether I spoke out of determination or anger.

I sighed helplessly. I’m telling the truth.

She looked away and laughed. Right. I forget that you and my brother are already in the state of loving each other.

Love-I paused, glaring at her. What the heck are you talking about?!

My reaction made her laugh even harder. You’re blushing!

I touched my cheeks to see if they were hot, and then caught the grin on her lips, realizing it was just a trap.

Before I could do anything, she had already run away.

Kathleen! Come back here!

A few hours later, a commotion rose near the gate. From the study, I heard the faint sound of hooves on the cobblestone path, the clipped voices of the guards greeting someone.

I went out just in time to see a young council messenger dashing off his horse and clutching a sealed envelope. The wax bore the council’s insignia.

What’s the matter?I asked.

This is for Alpha Lucien,he said, bowing briefly before handing it over.

I nodded and thanked him before I took the sealed envelope and went to find Lucienwhich I did in his study.

Lucien,I called out, seeing him buried in documents.

He paused and set down his work, then looked up at me. What’s wrong, little wolf?

I handed him the sealed envelope. A letter for you.

Lucien looked at me before taking it, breaking the seal and unfolding the paper. His eyes skimmed the words before he read them aloud, his voice low and controlled.

Alexander has registered to attend the bill vote in person.”

The words hung in the air like a challenge.

Lucien folded the paper slowly, deliberately. He’s challenging us,he said, his gaze shifting to me. He’s trying to warn us that, no matter what we do, he won’t let us pass the bill.

Fuck. Damn him.

We should hurry and have some trusted people side with us. The more, the better. We can’t let them manipulate others just to get in our way,” Lucien said grimly.

I nodded. Just as I was about to leave, he suddenly asked,

If the bill passeswill you go to him? One last time? To end it face to face?I could hear the caution and hesitation in his words.

I looked him in the eyes, trying to match the way he tried to gauge my emotions.

I sighed and placed both of my hands on his table, leaning closer until our noses nearly touched, eyes still locked.

As I told you before, I have no feelings for him anymore other than disgust and anger. I will meet him in the future face to face, not because I want to, or to see him again, but because I want him to hear my rejection from my own mouth,I said calmly.
