Chapter 61
Scarlett’s POLL
We were invited again to a pre–vote dinner, and it was held in the council district with chandeliers and candlelight, but no me, it felt like a battlefield. After all, the Lunas, Alphas, Council members, and Omega were also invited
The closer the vote approached, the more dangerous things became–especially since some of them were strongly opponent to my bond dissolution, my proposal.
Every eye turned our way the moment Lucien and I made our entrance.
“Don’t mind them,” Lucien said calmly while my hand rested lightly on his arm, our steps perfectly measured.
The chatter and gossip quieted as we passed the tables, and their murmurs were quickly replaced with their usual, everyday
conversation.
I didn’t mind it, though their stares were getting annoying, as they didn’t even attempt to hide the way they looked at us and gossiped. Take Faye for example.
Kathleen, who had dressed as an attendant just to attend the event, appeared in front of me holding a tray of wine. When she saw me looking at her, she winked and leaned closer, whispering in my ear.
I saw Faye. Three tables away, beside Alpha Kade. I saw her smiling and acting like she’s already the Luna of the Crescent Moon Pack.”
I didn’t have to take a second look at Faye because I could already feel her smugness radiating across the hall. My lips curved. “Of course. After all, parasites always cling to someone stronger. Take her as an example.”
Lucien’s voice rumbled beside me. “She’s irrelevant.”
“Irrelevant, but she’s trying hard to be relevant,” I replied, my eyes narrowing.
“She’s trying hard to replace you–the Luna of the Crescent Moon Pack,” Lucien said in a grim tone.
I just chuckled. “She can’t replace me as the Luna. But, who knows, she could if she convinced her man to stop being an obstacle and allow my bill to pass.”
“If you push her further, she might,” he said calmly.
I smirked. “That’s the plan. I’ll drive her mad–use her jealousy to gain the upper hand.”
Before he could respond, I looked at him and narrowed my eyes. “Just promise me you’ll endure the rumors that will certainly circulate about me having feelings for Alexander. You know damn well all I want from him is to dissolve our bond”
Lucien looked into my eyes for a few minutes before he let out a heavy sigh and nodded. “I can’t promise I won’t get jealous even if it isn’t true, but you have my word, I’ll endure it. Just don’t let it go on for too long.”
By the time we reached our seats, I paused. Across from me sat Alexander, his posture elegant, his presence domineering, and his eyes burning into me. I didn’t know why, but this time there was something else in the way he looked at me–it made my skin crawl.
Urgh. He inclined his head in polite greeting, but his gaze lingered on me as if branding me in his mind.
I returned a cool smile despite the fact that I was rolling my eyes at him in my head before sitting downl
