Chapter 62
Scarlett’s POV
Sp youchers
After the pre–vote dinner last night–which ended up humiliating Faye, who, along with Lucien, tried to sabotage my reputation but only ended up getting exposed–it was another morning. By nightfall, I would either be free, or caged forever under Alexander, as his Luna, under his hands.
1 rose early, dressing in black silk edged with silver, my hair pulled back to show the scar that had once marked me as Alexander’s Luna–a scar that would forever haunt me. A scar of betrayal. A scar of abandonment.
However, I no longer wanted to hide it. Although it was embarrassing to display my scars, I had already made that decision in the past. And now, in the present, I wanted to completely remove him from my life.
His betrayal had spoken louder than the words he once used to coax me to remain in his pack, to build his pack, to build a home for him–only for him to build his love for someone else.
I was not begging for freedom. I was claiming it back. I was taking back the freedom that was stolen from me.
When I entered Lucien’s study, the air was thick with the smell of ink, parchment, and his sandalwood scent.
I glanced at his table. Maps and reports were scattered across his desk. Lucien stood over them, one hand braced on the wood, his silver eyes sharp with focus. He didn’t even hear me knock to come in.
But as soon as I stepped inside and walked toward him, he seemed to sense my presence. When he looked up, the sharpness in his eyes softened.
“You’re up early. The sun isn’t set yet,” he said as he pulled out a chair and made me sit down.
I looked at him. “And what about you? Did you even sleep?”
He chuckled. “I can stay up all night. It’s not a problem for me since I do this sometimes too–if there’s something going on.”
I raised my brows and pointed at the scattered documents on his desk. “Is this what keeps you up at night?”
He nodded and rubbed his temple. “Little wolf, I think there’s something we have to talk about.”
I tilted my head and blinked at him. “What is it?”
He tapped a section of the bill with two fingers. “If the mark is forcibly dissolved, Alphas like Alexander will claim it’s an insult–a form of retaliation. You know how much they value their pride, and they’ll use that to their advantage. His mistress will surely spread gossip about you as well. They’ll say it undermines their authority.”
My eyes narrowed as my wolf pressed against me. “Then we make it a two–way right. Not everyone deserves a second chance -but everyone deserves the right to say no. An Alpha can sever. A Luna can sever. Equal.”
Lucien studied me, his jaw set. For a long moment, he said nothing. Then he gave a single, measured nod. “It could strengthen our legal footing. But…” He leaned back slightly, arms crossed. “…it might also make Kade dig his heels in further. He won’t like the idea of Omegas or Lunas holding power equal to his.”
My lips curved in a grim smile. “Then let him hate it. I didn’t come here to beg. Lucien. I came to take back what’s already
mine.”
He exhaled slowly, then moved toward the tall window. The courtyard below was alive with movement–guards assembling, horses stamping, pages running with scrolls. The whole district buzzed in anticipation of the council vote.

To crush you before the vote. It’s not just him looking forward to your downfall, so we must fortify our legal position.
I agree, thoulders wared. I know. The vote is already approaching, and for sure, they are in a hurry to sway other
He was also speak when a soft knock interrupted us.
1 glasted at the person who entered–Kathleen, who had a rare seriousness on her face and whose eyes burned with anger as she handed me a stack of parchment.
She set them carefully on the desk and looked at me. “Last–minute amendments,” she said. “Our allies wanted you to have them in case you need to counter questions.”
I glanced at the pile, then back to her as she grunted. “What else?”
Her lips pressed thin Faye was seen again this morning. With Alpha Kade. Whispering in his ear as if she belonged there. Damn it, that woman is already pissing me off so much! Can’t she just stay put? A homewrecker like her even had the nerve to hold her head high, acting like she’s already the Luna.”
I didn’t move. Didn’t blink. My face stayed calm. But my wolf roared inside me. That woman was poison—a snake slithering from one Alpha to another, always clinging to power that wasn’t hers. Mistress. Homewrecker. Parasite.
‘Seems she recovered easily after the humiliation she suffered last night. I bet she’s grinding her teeth, eager to remove me completely, I said calmly.
Kathleen crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. “Remove you? As long as you’re tied to Alexander and your bond isn’t dissolved, she’s still branded as the mistress and can’t be recognized as Luna. If she wants to become the legal one—which she does–then she should stop Alexander from getting in the way of dissolving those bonds! Is she even thinking?”
I chuckled, “Don’t get angry. All we have to do is push her to the edge. There’s no way a woman who’s eager to be with Alexander, and even pregnant with his heir, would allow herself to remain in my shadow.”
Kathleen sneered. “Then we’ll keep pushing her. Let’s see if she won’t snap.”
Lucien’s jaw tightened, the muscles ticking. “She’s also hoping you’ll snap. That you’ll lose your composure before the session
“I won’t,” I said flatly.
Kathleen’s eyes softened with pride. “That’s my girl. Show them you won’t allow such disrespect, and no matter what they do, you’ll counterattack.
“Anyway, I’ll go now–and, you know, listen in on the new gossip Faye’s spreading.” Kathleen winked at me.
I chuckled and waved. “Thank you for your hard work. We’ll treat you after this.”
She laughed. “Just give me a nephew to play with and I’ll be happy.”
Before I could say anything else, she left with a teasing grin and even closed the door behind us.
Lucien, who had been tense earlier, had relaxed into a smile. “She…” he looked at me and raised the corner of his lips. “Should we?”
I rolled my eyes, “Shut it and let’s focus on this first.”

I threw the envelope at him, my cars hot. “Lucien!”
“Yes, little wolf?” He leaned closer with a familiar smirk, his eyes locking onto mine.
I pushed his face away. “Shut it.”

For the next hour, Lucien and I dissected every angle, every question I might face. He pushed me hard, forcing me to sharpen my answers until they cut like glass.
“What if Kade says this bill destroys the sanctity of bonds?”
I leaned forward, my eyes blazing. “Then I’ll remind him a bond without respect isn’t sacred–it’s a prison.”
“What if they accuse you of writing this law for yourself alone?”
I almost laughed. “Then I’ll thank them for stating the obvious–and remind them that Omegas, the lowest of us all, are waiting to breathe too. This bill is about more than me. It’s about them. But if they want to call me selfish for wanting freedom, let them choke on it.”
