Chapter 63
Scarlett’s POV
The council chamber hummed with noise when Lucien and I arrived. The tall arched celling caughs every moves amplifying the whispers and gossip they had heard about us.
Their eyes tracked me instantly–some openly, others with fleeting glances they thought I wouldn’t notice Recesse i kad been exposed to them a lot, I was no longer bothered by their stares. It wouldn’t affect me as long as I could win the bill ad defeat Alexander.
However, the judgment in their eyes still felt like claws scraping my skin.
It seemed Faye couldn’t wait any longer and had directly spread rumors about me–in an attempt to cover ser oven voda -no, the truths about herself, about who she was and why I was fighting so hard against them.
I didn’t know what rumors she had planted again in the minds of the people, but I knew for certain that they were all at her and that she twisted them into lies against me. Surely, in the eyes of the people, I was the one who betraged Hessader with Lucien.
Despite saying I would focus on my bill first and not worry about the rumors since they weren’t true, I was still bothered by
them.
Lucien walked beside me, ignoring the stares just as I did while we moved inside. His arm brushed mine as we headed to osz seat near the front.
‘Don’t mind them. Just focus on your bill,” he leaned closer and whispered in my ear.
I looked at him and nodded. “I know.”
Upon seeing that we had arrived and everyone was now present, the Council Head, an older wolf with a voice like gravel, began to speak. “Order.”
The murmur that had buzzed like bees earlier faded into silence at his command.
The Council Head unrolled a parchment, his voice echoing through the hall with authority. “On the matter of mate bonds the right of equal dissolution.”
The words struck like lightning. The chamber erupted in noise–gasps, scoffs, and hisses of disapproval
‘Did I hear that right? What equal dissolution?”
Is she out of her mind? Who would approve this!”
She already cheated on Alexander and now she’s demanding an equal dissolution? How shameless.”
…but I heard that it was Alexander who cheated with Faye, and now Faye is almost four months pregnant.*
It must be because Scarlett cheated first!”
‘Silence!” the Council Head barked. The veins in his forehead throbbed.
When quiet returned, Alpha Kade, who had been quietly observing us since earlier, finally couldn’t take it any longer. He was already on his feet and his voice cut sharp as a blade.
If this passes, it will open the floodgates. What’s next? Omegas demanding Alpha rights? Wolves abandoning their mates on

a whim? If this bill gets approved, we’ll be doomed!” he exclaimed.
Growls of agreement filled the corners of the chamber.
I rose slowly from my seat and looked at him. My palms pressed flat against the polished oak table. My voice was clear and steady. “This is not on a whim, Alpha Kade. This is about having a choice. The choice was denied to many of us. Me, included
Gasps ripped through the room again, sharper this time.
Kade looked at me. “Your choice is dangerous, Luna! Who knows how many bonds you would destroy if this bill passed!”
Reynolds, gray–haired but steadfast, spoke next before I could. His tone was grave but warm. “Her late father once argued the same principle. He said, ‘A bond without consent is nothing but chains. I’ll never forget those words or how he tried to change this policy, too.”
The chamber shifted, and an uneasy silence filled the hall. Reynold’s loyalty to my father was no small thing.
I exhaled slowly, my chest tightening with something close to gratitude.
Lucien rose then, smooth as a blade unsheathed. He placed scrolls and reports onto the long table, pushing them toward the nearest scribes. “The data supports her. In the regions where Omegas were allowed greater autonomy, morale improved. Desertion rates fell. Female employment rose. Border patrols strengthened because wolves weren’t shackled by resentment. Choice does not weaken a pack. It strengthens it.”
A wave of murmurs followed–hesitant, thoughtful.
“Is it true? Isn’t that good?”
“Indeed.”
I let out a sigh of relief after hearing that some of the murmurs had finally turned positive.
However, because of the turn in events, Faye–who had just sat watching us earlier–stood up.
Her voice sliced through the hall. “Strengthens? Or corrupts?” She stood gracefully, her gown glittering, her hand resting delicately on Kade’s arm as though she belonged there. “Everyone here knows Scarlett has been seen in Lucien’s company more than once and that they had a special relationship. Not only that, she went behind my back to see my man, Alpha Alexander. Tell me, is this bill about your freedom and the freedom of other Omegas, or is it just your excuse to hide your betrayal?”
Gasps cracked the air like a whip.
Heat surged into my chest, but I forced my smile to remain steady as I turned toward her. My wolf clawed at me, begging to rip out her throat. But my voice remained calm as steel. “You mistake dignity for betrayal, Faye. Unlike you, I don’t need to crawl into another Alpha’s bed to feel powerful.”
Laughter broke across the chamber–sharp, shocked, some muffled behind hands. The Council Head’s gavel slammed down. “Order!”
Faye’s face flushed crimson. She sat quickly, lips pressed into a thin line, venom burning in her eyes.
But before the silence could settle, another voice rose–smooth, cold, cutting through everything.
Alexander.
He stood with measured grace, every inch of him a contained threat. His eyes locked on mine, dark and burning.

Chapter 63
“Scarlett, he said, his voice low but carrying. “Do you truly think breaking what we share will make you free? You’re tied to me whether this council votes yes or no. I won’t let you go easily.”
His words weren’t just a statement. They were a vow, a promise carved into the marrow of my bones.
My heart twisted, a painful, traitorous beat. My wolf keened, torn between fury and the remnants of the bond.
But I stood straighter. My voice was steady. “That is precisely what makes this vote necessary”
A shocked silence fell, then swelled into whispers that filled the chamber like a rising tide.
Lucien’s gaze snapped to me, silver eyes unreadable. I felt his power pressing close, protective but also testing me–as if asking whether I could still hold my ground under Alexander’s weight.
I met his gaze and gave the smallest nod. Yes. I could.
The Council Head banged his gavel again. “Enough. It is time. Cast your ballots.”
One by one, council members rose, walked to the carved wooden box at the chamber’s center, and dropped their tokens inside. The sound of each clink echoed like a hammer striking an anvil.
Every step, every movement, stretched the tension tighter.
When the last token fell, the scribes carried the box forward, emptying the contents onto the counting table.
The chamber buzzed like a hive as numbers were tallied. My pulse hammered so hard I thought they might hear it.
Faye leaned forward, her voice just loud enough to carry. “Even if the bill passes, Scarlett, you’ll still be nothing without him.”
My nails dug crescents into my palms. My wolf lunged inside me, demanding violence.
“What nonsense are you talking about? You mean the Crescent Pack would be nothing without me.” I looked at her and smirked. “Are you really so sure that you want Alexander to tighten his chains around me and keep me at his side? What about you and your child? Will you be tossed aside after you give birth? What place do you have in his heart that he has to hold on to me so tightly?”
The smile slid from her lips. She glared at me and I saw her eyes flash with jealousy. She gritted her teeth. “Are you sure about that?”
I chuckled, opening my arms. “You should watch your so–called Alpha that closely. After all, if I wanted, I could easily take him back from you.”
Faye trembled with anger. “You… you slut!”
‘Referring to yourself, are you?” I laughed.
‘Let’s see about that! I am his mate. He can’t deny me.” Faye insisted, and without giving me a chance to stoke her jealousy further, she turned her back and returned to her chair.
I just rolled my eyes and fixed my gaze on the Council Head, my back straight, my face carved from stone.
The tally was almost finished. The scribe’s quill scratched furiously. The council members leaned forward, breaths held.
The Head of Council rose, parchment in hand. His expression was unreadable.
