Get Back The Abandoned Luna (Scarlett and Alexander) novel Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Scarlett’s POV

The council adjourned in chaos. No verdict, no closure. Just three days of limbo hanging like a noose around my neck turk. It’s not finalized yet, and I was nearing the point of losing my composure.

Insufficient consensus, I heard the Head declare.

The chamber buzzed as wolves rose from their seats. Some were disappointed that it hadn’t been approved, some reprees. and some remained neutraljust watching the further trial of the bill.

However, I could tell most of them harbored anger toward meespecially the Alphas. The Alphas who wanted to control their Lunas and the Omegas. They still wanted to hold their heads high and command authority, but I had become a blockage for them. After all, if the bill passed, they were afraid their footing would be shaken. The Lunas they had abused would surely turn their backs and choose to leave them.

They are not afraid of change. They are afraid that change would make them lose their power. Their control.

Now they were openly glaring at me, looks that could burn through flesh.

But their searing stares vanished.

I looked up at Lucien, who stood in front of me, shielding me from their burning gazes. We’ll win this.

A smile broke across my lips. I know.

Because of Lucien’s interference, some of themthe ones who feared Luciensighed in relief, knowing he had no vote in the council. They relaxed and resumed their taunts.

she’s Lucien’s pet, I see.

*an abandoned Luna daring to craft this kind of bill? Is she sick in the head or just trying to challenge Alpha authority?

not only that. She’s a Luna who had two Alphasisn’t she a bit of aslut?

Their voices clung to me as I walked down the long aisle, my heels tapping against the marble, every click a step of defiance. I refused to bow my head. If I lost my composure now, as the bill neared its end, then I would surely lose.

I wouldn’t let their words affect my mind.

We should rest later, okay? You don’t look good.” I heard Lucien say as he guided me by my back.

I pursed my lips. But I’m fine.

His gaze narrowed, and he looked right into my eyes. Your mind’s not. Your mental health matters, little wolf.

I know, but I’m doing fine. We have to speed this up,I said, taking a deep breath, trying to erase the uneasiness from my chest.

By the time we reached the chamber doors, the air was sharp with winter, making me shiver a bituntil a coat was draped over my shoulders.

Before I could thank him, I noticed a figure approaching.

Kane.

I u

I couldn’t help but glance at Lucien’s face and saw he was nonchalant about it.

Kane didn’t look at Lucien; he looked only at me. His face was grim, his voice low. Alexander’s already meeting with Kade tonight. He’ll use the delay to harden the novotes.

My jaw tightened. Of course he will.

Before I could say more, Kaya’s voice slid into my mind, sharp and warning. Be careful, Scarlett. His loyalty isn’t yours. He’s Alexander’s shadow, not your shield.”

I inclined my head faintly, my words clipped. Thank you, Kane.

His dark eyes lingered on me, searching, unreadable. Then he inclined his head and stepped aside.

Lucien’s arm around my waist tightened, his presence steadying me, though his silver eyes cut sharply toward Kane’s retreating back.

He’s Alexander’s shadow,Lucien murmured, his voice cold as steel. Not your ally.

I tilted my head, keeping my expression calm. Didn’t you tell me he wouldn’t betray us? Are you going back on your word?

His jaw clenched. He won’t betray us, but he can’t change the fact that he’s become Alexander’s shadow.

I sighed. Even shadows show where the light falls, besides.”

His eyes stayed on me, behind an expression I couldn’t read, before he held out his arm. I looked in his eyes as I accepted his offer, but tension sparked between us, coiling like a storm held back.

The great hall of the quarter was ablaze with candlelight as we returned. Lucien wasted no time. Within the hour, he had gathered Reynold, Kathleen, and Meredith. Maps and scrolls littered the table, ink still drying on some of the amendments.

Reynold’s voice rumbled with measured caution. If we push too hard, the neutrals will feel cornered. Wolves hate being forced. Let the delay cool their tempers. Give them room to come around.

Kathleen’s voice cut in before I could respond. That’s nonsense. If we wait, Faye will twist the story until Scarlett’s the villain in every whisper. We can’t retreat. We must seize the moment.

Meredith, quiet as always, shifted uncomfortably, glancing between them.

I leaned forward, pressing my palms flat on the oak. We can’t fight numbers with numbers alone. They already see me as Alexander’s discarded Luna, a woman clinging to power. If we want to win, they must see me differently. Not as a castoff. Not as a scandal. As someone who has already built something stronger than what I left behind.

The room fell silent.

Lucien’s eyes fixed on me. Quiet intensity burned there, a weight pressing against my chest. Then tomorrow,he said slowly, you’ll show them. Stand beside me at the prevote dinner. Not as Alexander’s Luna. Not as anyone’s discarded bond. As Scarlettthe woman who forged her own name.”

The words struck me like a blow.

Publicly aligning myself with Lucien would ignite gossip already circling like vultures. Mistress. Pet. Whore. They’d call me

every name.

But he was right. This might be the only way.
