Chapter 67

Scarlett’s POV

Finally, we had decided to go back to the Nightshade since the next council would take three to five days, and that council session would be the last session, giving us one last time to rethink our decisions, to hasten revisions, and to gather support and allies… all necessary for it.

Finally, it would be the final session. It took long enough. I had suffered, endured, been humiliated and mocked during the trials, all just because I wanted freedom. I didn’t even demand compensation for the service I had done as the Luna of the Crescent Moon, who rebuilt it step by step and from scratch. I didn’t even ask for compensation for the pain I suffered emotionally under my Alpha’s betrayal.

Yet… I had suffered a lot just because I was not the Alpha. Because I was a woman. A Luna.

I sat alone by the window. The candles burned low, creating a soft, warm contrast in my room. The night air seeped through the glass, cold and heavy.

I was still thinking about Lucien’s words earlier. I knew that he was just being protective, that he cared about me… but still…

Part of me wanted to scream at him for trying to restrain me. Another part of me wanted to lean into the steadiness he offered, but I couldn’t.

I just couldn’t. Technically, I was still Alexander’s Luna even if I didn’t want to be.

I just couldn’t rely on Lucien for everything. This was my own battle.

I wanted him to just stay out of it… just let me have this chance to fight for the freedom that I wanted. To fight for myself— who was betrayed, abandoned, cast aside after being used, and was humiliated.

I just wanted to show them that I, too, could stand equal to the Alphas. Was that wrong? Was it because my pride was too high?

They didn’t mock me or say anything when I arrived–because they feared and respected their Alpha. But now, they were willing to bow their heads at me.

“Luna, where are you going?” a servant asked me warmly.

I looked at her and smiled. “I don’t know, but I’m going for a walk to calm my mind.”

The servant nodded. “It’s important to do that, especially after all you’ve suffered.”

“Right, right! We heard that Alexander from the Crescent Pack brought a woman right after you stabilized his position as Alpha of the Crescent Moon!” another servant said with a frown.

“I heard that too! His mistress is even four months pregnant! It means that while the Luna was busy protecting the Crescent Moon Pack, the Alpha was busy coaxing another woman into his bed!”

“Damn, how shameless!”

I watched them gossip and even curse Alexander as they went on. They looked at my expression to see if I minded, but when they saw I was just smiling, they continued their cursing.

“I hope your bill gets approved, Luna,” one of them said.

I smiled and thanked them.

“By the way, do you have any plans to get the Crescent Moon Pack back? You’re the one who rebuilt it,” another asked, making me pause.

I shook my head. “Honestly, I don’t know either. After all, they recognized Alexander as their Alpha. I can’t directly claim it as mine.”

They all sighed in pity. “Damn. He got all the credit that was supposed to be yours.”

“Well, he also did his job as Alpha, so they would surely side with him rather than the Luna,” I said with a smile.

Before they could say anything else, they suddenly stopped and hurriedly bowed their heads. “Greetings, Alpha. We will get lost now–I mean, go back to our post now.”

They didn’t even give me a chance to speak as they scattered away.

I helplessly turned around. “You scared them?”

He blinked at me. “I didn’t do anything.”

Hmm… I see. Are you waiting for me?” he asked, pulling back slightly to give me some space, then gently wrapped his hand round my waist.

‘I wasn’t! Why would I wait for you?” I retorted.

‘Oh, I thought you were waiting for me to help put you to sleep,” he teased.

‘What am I, a kid?” I rolled my eyes and tried to pull his hands away from my waist, but he held me tightly, lifting me to his shoulder, turning my world upside down,

He just laughed as he carried me back to his room. “Remove the ‘kill‘ and I’ll be glad to fuck you.”

“Damn you! What the hell are you trying to pull?!”

‘Lower your tone, they’re already sleeping,” he said, igniting the fire in my heart and the fire on my face.

‘Fuck! Lower my tone?! They already know, you–urgh!”

When we arrived at his room, he locked the door before he put me down on his bed.

I glared at him as he smiled at me. “Enough glaring–go and get some rest.”

“I won’t sleep until you let me punch you once,” I said coldly.

However, it didn’t even intimidate him. He even leaned closer to me. “Let’s do that tomorrow. For now, let’s get you some sleep.”

I gritted my teeth. “Why am I even sleeping with you? Your servants saw us–who knows what kind of rumors will start tomorrow?”

“They won’t. They’re all loyal to me. Unless there’s a spy in the pack.”

I sneered. “You even let spies roam freely in your pack? Are you getting weak?”

He just laughed, tucked me under a blanket, and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to his heart.

I could even hear the loud thump of his heart, as strong as mine.
