Scarlett’s POV

Today was the second day. We went back to our respective seats while waiting for the Head of Councils to arrive, with Alexander on my right side.

“Can’t wait to dissolve your bond with me, huh, Scarlett?” His voice was tense, locking his eyes on me.

I met his gaze and smirked. “Of course. I couldn’t wait for this day to come.”

His gaze darkened and his jaw clenched. “Why? Are you that eager to bond with that Alpha behind you, Scarlett? How did you become such a whore, willing to open your legs for anyone?”

I ignored his tension and chuckled. “Not as much of a whore as you. Why aren’t you happy? Weren’t you planning to let your little mistress take my position and carry your heir? Do you think I can forget how you treated her in front of me?”

“If it’s just about your jealousy, I won’t contact her anymore after she gives birth to my heir. You’ll be the Luna of Crescent Moon Pack as long as you end this ridiculous bond dissolution right now, Scarlett!” His voice, though low so others couldn’t hear, was filled with fury.

I let out a mocking laugh. “You think I want to be your Luna, Alpha Alexander?”

“You wanted that position before. I remember you being happy to become my Luna, Scarlett! Did you forget about that?” He gritted his teeth.

“Oh, sorry but not really. I forgot everything the moment you chose to betray me, Alexander. All my loyalty, love, and everything disappeared like a bubble. Pop.” I even mimed the bubble popping, smirking at him as his face reddened with anger.

“You think that after our bond is dissolved, you can easily bond again with that Lucien? You are already a broken Luna! You will never be whole again!” he exclaimed.

My eyes turned cold. “That’s none of your concern. Whatever I do after our bond dissolves is none of your fucking business. Also, keep a leash on that mistress of yours. That woman nearly killed me and my warriors. If she keeps pulling the same stunt and harms my people, who knows what I’ll do to her–your so–called heir’s mother.”

His eyes sharpened. “Are you threatening me now, Scarlett? I am your Alpha!”

“I’m not your Luna. And yes, I am fucking threatening you, so deal with your bitch before I snap!”

Before he could reply, it was announced that the Head of Council had arrived and would begin the session now, forcing both of us to behave.

I took a deep breath and listened to the announcement.

“Now for the testimonies of Scarlett’s side–Reynold, sworn elder, you may begin.”

Reynold stepped forward. His presence filled the chamber with quiet strength. His gray hair caught the light,

and his eyes–sharp as ever–settled on the Council.

“I swore to her father,” Reynold began, his voice steady, “that I would watch over her. I have lived long enough to see Alpha after Alpha rise, but none who bore as much weight with as much grace as Scarlett.”

He turned his gaze briefly to me, then back to the Council.

“I have seen Alexander neglect her. I have seen him parade another woman in her place, even while Scarlett carried the Crescent Moon on her shoulders. She commanded in battle. She rebuilt what rogues tore down. She gave her body, her sweat, her very blood to protect not only Nightshade, but Crescent Moon as well. If bonds are meant to strengthen us,” his voice rang sharper, “then this bond has already failed.”

Gasps rippled through the chamber. The scribes scratched furiously, quills flying across parchment.

Alexander’s jaw flexed. He gripped the edge of the table before him so tightly his knuckles whitened.

The Head of Council nodded once. “Your testimony is recorded.”

But before Reynold could return to his seat, another voice cut through the chamber.

“Lies.”

Alpha Kade rose abruptly from where he sat as a guest. His towering frame cast a shadow that seemed to stretch to the dais. His voice thundered.

“Her so–called progress is manipulation. Do you not see what she does? She leads Omegas to believe they can choose against tradition. She sows seeds of rebellion among females, whispering they are equal in command. If you dissolve this bond, you spit on centuries of law. You strip every Alpha of authority. Today it is Crescent Moon’s Luna. Tomorrow it is all of us.”

I let out a mocking laugh. Is that all he could say? Didn’t he have any other defense? I didn’t know how many times he’d issued the same statement–it made my ears calloused from hearing it so often.

Yet every time he said those words, murmurs stirred across the Supreme Hall and several Alphas supported him–after all, they feared equal strength.

I stepped forward, my pulse racing, but my voice was cold and sharp.

“Is it rebellion to be valued?” My words carried across the hall, cutting through the whispers. “Or is it fear that blinds you to change? I fought with Crescent Moon’s warriors when Alexander was absent. I carried the banner when others faltered. I spilled my blood so his pack would stand. Tell me, Alpha Kade-” my gaze cut into his, “is it rebellion to demand loyalty be honored? That love not be mocked? Am I wrong for fighting for what I deserve?”

A murmur of approval rose, not loud, but spreading like a low fire.

Kade’s face hardened, but before he could bark another word, Alexander stepped forward. His voice was sharp and his eyes burned as he looked at me.

“You twist the truth, Scarlett. You want them to believe I abandoned you. But I led this pack long before you stepped into Nightshade! You forget who gave you a name, who gave you a bond! I saved you when you were

at your lowest and was there, ready to protect you. Did you forget all of it because of Alpha Lucien?! You’ve got to be kidding me.”

I let out a bitter laugh that echoed too loud in the hall. “You saved me at my lowest point, but who drove me there now, Alexander? Tell me, who drove me mad.” I spat. “You keep saying I forgot everything because of Lucien, but did you forget our bond, that I am your Luna, when you chose to betray me with your little mistress Faye, who is even four months pregnant? You gave me pain and shame I didn’t deserve.”

Alexander’s gaze flicked–for just a heartbeat–toward Faye, who stood with one hand resting over her swelling belly.

I caught it. So did the Council members who had been watching us closely.

A ripple of realization swept the chamber.

One of the councilors leaned forward, brows furrowed. “Is it true, Alpha Alexander? That you’ve lain with another while your Luna still bore your bond? This is a serious matter. The pain you inflicted on your Luna could have driven her mad, and as an Alpha you know that, yet you still did it for your pleasure while your Luna writhed in pain.”
