“Shut the fuck up!” Alexander roared, straining against the cuffs. The chain clinked, glowing faintly. “You poisoned her against me!”

I forced my trembling voice into the storm and let out a mocking laugh. “You are the one who poisoned me. Alexander. You chose Faye, now she will be your Luna.”

Alexander’s face contorted, “Do not speak her name! She means nothing compared to you. You are my Luna?”

Silence spread, suffocating. Wolves looked away, ashamed of him.

I took a deep breath and looked at the Head of Council. “Please proceed with the ritual. I’ll take the pain if it means forcibly dissolving the bond I have with him.”

“Are you crazy, Scarlett?! You want to die instead of being with me?! Are you sick-

The Head of Council rose to his feet, striking his staff on the ground. “Enough! Your words condemn you. Alexander. You admit your betrayal and still clutch chains you have already broken with your own hands. The bond shall be severed by force. Priestesses–begin the ritual.”

The priestesses moved swiftly. One pricked my palm, blood welling and dripping into an obsidian bowl. The other did the same to Alexander.

Smoke curled upward, acrid and bitter. The chain between us burned red–hot, searing my skin, and I watched the crack slowly move toward Alexander’s side.

Pain ripped through me instantly. Kaya screamed in my head, thrashing against the tearing bond. My knees gave way, but the cuffs kept me from falling. I could not help screaming out, grasping the chain, hoping it would steady me enough to stand again.

Alexander roared, his voice raw. “Stop this! You cannot sever what the Goddess created! Do you hear me? You cannot

One of the elders sneered, his voice sharp. “You severed it yourself the moment you bedded another. Do not cry to the Goddess now.”

The priestesses chanted louder, their voices like crashing waves. The smoke thickened and filled my lungs. Every vein in m chest burned.

“Scarlett!” Lucien’s voice rang across the hall, frantic. “Stay with me! Don’t let him win. Don’t let him keep you bound“”

Tears blurred my vision. My voice tore from my throat like broken glass. “I… renounce… this bond”

The chain convulsed violently, rattling between us.

Alexander roared, his voice breaking with something more than rage. “No! Scarlett, don’t! Please-”

His tone cracked–desperation leaking through the fury. His body buckled against the pull of the cuffs. His lips trembled, but his eyes stayed wild. “I can’t lose you. You’re all I have left!”

For a moment, my heart twisted. I remembered the boy I once believed in and once loved. But the pain, the betrayal, the weight of scars too deep to heal was much stronger.

“It’s over, Alexander,” I whispered, my voice breaking but final. “You lost me long ago.

The priestesses‘ chant reached its peak. The runes beneath us glowed like molten gold. The chamber rang with a deafening crash as the chain broke apart with sparks flying, scaring the stone floor.

Kaya’s scream was so loud it made my heart ache. I was about to ask if she was okay, when her voice slowly disappeared, until I couldn’t feel her anymore. It made me panic, but the pain was too much, nearly driving me insane.

The impact hurled me backward. My body slammed onto the floor, emptiness instantly clawing at my soul. The bond–the tether that had bound me for so long–was gone.

Alexander’s roar split the chamber. “NO!” He lunged, but guards seized him, dragging him back. His face was twisted, broken, wild. His eyes locked on me, full of despair. “You’re mine! You’ll always be mine!”

“Hold him!” the Head of Council barked. “Restrain the Alpha of Crescent Moon until judgment is delivered!”

Faye half–lifted from her bench, lips curling into a sensual, satisfied smile. Yet, when Alexander charged past her without so much as glancing in her direction, her face hardened to stone. Horror filled her eyes.

The hall resounded with howling wolves; others sobbed, some with their hands clamped over their mouths in disbelief.

My strength gave out. The world tilted. Darkness tugged at my vision, and I felt dizzy from the pain.

I tried to rise, feeling as though the world was slipping backward, when suddenly an arm caught me. It was warm and full of security.

His voice trembled above me, breaking. “Scarlett! Stay with me! Open your eyes! I’ll take you back to our pack!“.

I wanted to answer, to tell him I was fine… that I was just going to sleep, but Kaya’s silence filled the hollow in my soul, heavy and cold, and the darkness surged in to claim me whole.
