Scarlett’s POV

The clang of steel rang through the courtyard, sharp as blades met. I watched as the warriors busied themselves, dedicated to training and friendly sparring. Morning sunlight spilled over them, their bare uppe bodies glistening in the sun, sweat dripping down their skin-
“You’re watching other men?” I paused, feeling Lucien’s arm tighten around my waist, making me hiss as he touched the sore spot.
“Fuck off, Lucien! You’re breaking my waist!” I hissed and glared at him.
He immediately loosened his grip and apologized, gently massaging my waist. “Does it still hurt?”
I glared at him. “What do you think?”
He pouted but continued massaging my waist–since it eased the pain.
“You were staring at their naked bodies. Is my body not enough?” I heard him complain as we slowly walked t the courtyard and watched them spar.
I rolled my eyes at him. “What’s wrong with looking at their bodies? It’s not like I can censor or blur their upper bodies as I watch them train, can I?”
“Still-”
I didn’t let him finish complaining and cut him off. “Keep playing, Lucien, and I’ll leave you here.”
Before he could respond, everyone’s heads turned as they noticed our presence. The warriors lowered their blades, bows slackened, and conversations hushed.
“Scarlett,” one of the warriors greeted with a broad grin, wiping sweat from his brow. “Are you well? We heard about the rogue attack the other day and were worried you’d been hurt badly. That’s why you didn’t come out yesterday. Thank goodness Alpha Lucien was there when the rogue attack happened. Otherwise, if something had happened to you, we don’t know what we’d do.”
“She was recovering yesterday, that’s why-” I didn’t let Lucien finish, afraid he’d say something he shouldn’t.
I pinched his side and smiled at the warriors. “Yeah, but I’m fine now.”
“That’s our Lady there! We heard you protected the Omegas–such a noble act,” another warrior said, the others nodding their agreement.
I chuckled. “Anyone would have done the same in my situation. Besides, it was partly my fault–their target was clearly me
Pride warmed my chest at their praise, though the wolf beside me swept the group with a cold gaze. He wasn’t smiling–he never seemed to smile when anyone looked at me too long.
anything to them anyway.
“Is the Alpha jealous?”
“He’s jealous.”
“Come on, Scarlett! Hurry up and coax your Alpha.”
I rolled my eyes. “Is it time for your play yet?”
They paused, then laughed, shaking their heads.
“Why don’t you give us a demonstration, Scarlett? Or…. perhaps a spar? To learn directly from you would be a honor,” the scarred warrior, Gary, stepped forward, tilting his head at the circle.
“Damn, Gary! Challenging her in front of the Alpha, you’ve got guts!” another warrior commented.
Gary laughed and gave them a middle finger. “Unlike you cowards.”
“Scarlett! He’s bullying us! Show him who’s the boss!” They squealed, acting like teenage girls, making me
chuckle.
I opened my mouth to accept, but before the words left my lips, Lucien bent down, his voice brushing my ear, low enough only for me to hear.
“You can’t.”
My brows furrowed. “Why not?”
He smirked, eyes glinting with wicked amusement. “Because you’re sore. Do I have to remind you what kind of recuperating you did yesterday?”
Heat flared across my cheeks. My hands curled into fists at my sides and I glared at him. “And whose fault was that?”
“You, of course. Besides-” his lips quirked faintly, enjoying my mortification, “You wouldn’t last five minutes.”
I spun to glare at him, jaw tight. “Watch me.”
Straightening, I turned to Gary and gave a sharp nod. “I accept.”
I could feel Lucien’s grip tightening on my waist, but he still didn’t let go.
I looked at him. “Let go, I’ll prove it to you.”
“No need, your health is more important.”
I gritted my teeth, feeling the burning gazes of the warriors. “Let go, or…”
I didn’t finish, because suddenly he let go, making me sigh in relief.

Before I moved to the center, I heard him. “Just be careful and don’t add any more wounds to your body.”
I nodded and handed him my cloak. His fingers lingered a moment too long on mine. His face was emotionless, except for a flicker of a storm in his eyes.
Gary then offered me a training blade, which I accepted eagerly. Its weight was familiar, but my muscles already protested–this blade was heavier than those we used in real fights. This training blade had been made by Alpha Lucien, who said it would help the warriors train their muscles and agility.
Gary raised his blade in a defensive stance. “I’ll try not to make a fool of myself in front of you.”
I smirked. “Don’t hold back. I’ll know if you do.”
The circle erupted in laughter.
He lunged first, blade slashing low. I sidestepped with a light pivot, letting the blow whistle past. My counter came quick, aimed at his ribs—but I pulled the strike short, tapping his side with the flat of my blade.
“Your guard drops when you lunge,” I said evenly, circling him. “Keep your elbows closer. Wide swings waste strength.”
He nodded and adjusted, coming at me again. Stronger this time, a feint followed by an overhead strike. I raised my blade, absorbing the impact. The clash rattled through my sore arms, but I hid the wince.
Lucien stood at the sidelines, arms crossed. His jaw strain I pushed myself through.

Gary pressed harder, but I relied on precision rather than brute strength. Every move was calculated, sparing my body just enough while still forcing him away. My breathing remained calm, though sweat beaded on my brow.
Around us, murmurs of approval grew.
“Her footwork-”
“Did you see that pivot?”
“She fights cleaner than half of us.”
Their words made my spine straighten despite the ache in my legs. I parried another strike and barked lightly, “Good. Better. But your stance is heavy–you’ll tire if you don’t shift your weight to your back foot.”
Gary adjusted once more, sweat dripping down his face. “You make it sound easy.”
“Only because I’ve trained for it,” I shot back, sending him back a few steps with a swift flurry of strikes.
The warriors laughed again, some mimicking my stance, others murmuring corrections to each other. It was almost like teaching, but pride kept me upright.
Then Gary landed a clean hit on my guard, knocking me back half a step. A cheer rose from the crowd.
