Scarlett’s POV

This is bad.

I turned my gaze to Lucien. They are probably in danger right now.

Lucien’s expression darkened as he let out a low curse. How long has it been since they went there?

It’s been six hours already, my lord, the scout replied.

Lucien’s jaw tightened. Send four trackers. Find them. Alive or dead, I want to see their corpses.

The scout bowed low and vanished. Uneasy whispers rippled through the gathered warriors. They had even stopped their sparring match and were already preparing themselves in case Lucien called for them. The Hollow Glen was known for its steep cliffs and forests where the shadows lingered too long.

If you didn’t know the way inside, you couldn’t come out again. That’s why it was a forbidden area that no of explored lightly or alone.

Before anyone could say more, another scout came tearing through the gates, dirtstreaked and wideeyed, huffing as he stopped in front of us.

AlphaHis voice cracked with urgency. Rogueshundreds of themare already striking at the southern watch post!

Gasps erupted. Some warriors cursed and hurriedly prepared themselves for yet another fight, grabbing their weapons at once. The courtyard, which only moments ago had been filled with laughter, now pulsed with dread

Lucien’s face darkened further. He let out a curse as he barked orders, his voice carrying authority.

Sound the horns! Rally the units! No one fights alone. Move!

Chaos eruptedbut it was an organized chaos. Warriors began to arm themselves, squads forming, and boots pounding the ground.

At my side, Lucien brushed my hand with his briefly. His voice was low, steady, and burning. Step back from this fight, little wolf

throat tightened, but I held his gaze. I’m not sitting this one out.

You’re not well, little wolf I can’t risk letting you fight.” His voice didn’t soften.

Looked him in the eyes. I want to fight alongside you, Lucien, I can command and I can fight too. There’s no Use arguing with mehurry your warriors!

His jaw flexed, fire and fear clashing in his eyes. Then he finally gave a helpless nod. Then fight. But don’t you dare fall or get hurt.”

Chapter 97

ThatI paused. is beyond my control.

Lucien continued commanding his units.

20 vouc!

Arm yourselves. Shields, spears, and bladesno excuses. We’re going to defend our pack. I want everyon ready before the sun clears the ridge! Hurry up!

The warriors sprang to their feet at his word and marched quickly across the ground. The doors of the armory squealed as they swung open, racks of gleaming weapons shining even in the dim light. Lucien str forward, the sheer gravity of him pulling everyone’s attention like a tide.

I followed, my sore body protesting every step, but prideand the sharp line of his shoulderskept me moving. Watching him like this, wholly Alpha, was enough to ignite something in my chest. His voice carri a promise of authority and something morea vow that he would not allow any of them to fall.

You were born giving orders,I muttered under my breath, crossing my arms as he inspected the racks.

Lucien’s head tilted, though his eyes didn’t leave the line of blades. And you must have been born to ignore them.”

A smirk tugged at my lips. I could have given the same orders.”

He turned, eyebrow arched, the faintest curl at his mouth. The difference, little wolf, is that I’d have a force ready for war. You’d have a massacre because you’d forget to leave anyone alive.”

Harsh.I clicked my tongue, but the warmth of his teasing was undeniable.

He leaned closer, voice dropping so only I could hear. True.”

I shoved his arm lightly, scowling even as heat crept up my neck. His answering grin made the soldiers nearest to us glance away, suddenly very interested in polishing their armor.

By the time we were seated on our mounts and riding out, the yard had gone quiet except for the sounds of hooves and leather. A scoutdifferent from the one who’d brought the previous newsrode ahead, his shoulders squared with urgency.

The rogues were last seen near the northern ridge,he said, voice clipped. If we move quickly, we can cut them off.

Lucien gave a single nod. Lead us.

The column moved into the shadowy forest. Mist curled low, weaving between the trunks like ghostly fingers, The further we rode, the stronger the unease in my gut grew. I felt something wasn’t quite right.

My instincts were always right, and I’d lost count of how many times they’d saved me. Especially when I looked at the scoutsomething didn’t sit right. His horse was restless, ears flicking back. His grip on the reins was too tight, like a man fighting his own nerves.

Lucien,I whispered once we were side by side, doesn’t the scout seem off to you?

He didn’t even glance at me, his gaze fixed ahead. He’s tense. Everyone is tense.

Chapter 97

No, it’s more than that,” I pressed. The way he keeps glancing back, it’s like he’s making sure we’re still with him. Something’s wrong with him.”

Finally, Lucien looked at me. His brows furrowed, and he glanced at the scout. “I don’t see anything wrong.

I narrowed my eyes. You don’t believe me?

Let’s see where this goes firstand if something is wrong with him, I’ll behead him.He spoke as if beheadir

someone was easy.

The retort on my tongue burned, but before I could spit it out, the trees opened onto a jagged ridge, the land dropping sharply into the valley below. The scout raised a hand, halting us.

Here,he said, pointing. They crossed here.

The hairs on the back of my neck rose. Fuck. Something was really off about him.

Waitisn’t this track familiar?

Isn’t this- fuck!

I looked at Lucien, who seemed to realize the truth. We were in the fucking Hollow Glen!

Why didn’t I realize it sooner!

Before I could command the warriors who were following usthank goodness, they hadn’t crossed the line yetthe ground trembled.

A crack split the silence beneath us. Warriors shouted and horses screamed. The ridge buckled and the ground under us collapsed.

Fuck!

Move!Lucien bellowed, spurring his horse.

I looked back at the warriors. RETREAT! AMBUSH-

I barely finished the word before the ground rumbled beneath me. A strangled cry tore from my throat as I slipped.

Strong arms grabbed me, yanking me against a solid chest as we fell on the collapsing ground,

Lucien.

His breath hitched near my ear as the cliff face sheared away completely, sending us down to the bottom of

the cliff.

Time slowed.

His grip around my waist tightened as he pressed my face to his neck, holding me close while we fell. Suddenly, he twisted his body in midair. He wrenched me closer, caging me in his arms, his back arching as
