Gold Digger vs Gold Saver My Man's Double Life novel Chapter 37

Chapter 6

That day, my lawyer contacted me.

“Mr. Cross deeply regrets everything and is willing to give up all marital assets. He just wants a chance to see you.”

I replied: “Have him sign the papers. I won’t see him.”

I cut all ties with the past and began my world tour.

From art museums in Paris to the Colosseum in Rome to the lue and white villages of Santorini. Alone, I visited many places I’d once dreamed of going with him.

At first, there was still a dull ache in my heart.

But gradually, the pain was healed by the beautiful scenery and fresh experiences along the way. I discovered that being alone could actually be wonderful.

My final stop was a small town at the foot of the Interlaken mountains in Switzerland. It was peaceful and beautiful, like a fairy tale world.

This place was where we’d once planned our honeymoon.

I’d said, “When we have money, we’ll definitely come here. Rent a little cabin with a view of the snow-capped mountains, feed pigeons every day, take walks, do nothing but stay for a whole month.”

He’d laughed and agreed at the time.

But later, he was always too busy, and this promise was indefinitely postponed.

Now I’d come alone-perhaps putting a belated end to that dead love.

I rented a small cabin facing the Jungfrau, living each day simply and contentedly.

Mornings I’d wake to birdsong and open the window to magnificent snow-capped peaks.

Days I’d stroll through the village or take the little train to the mountaintop for views. Evenings I’d sit by the fireplace with mulled wine and a favorite book.

Such days made me almost forget all past unhappiness.

Until Adrian’s appearance shattered this tranquility.

That afternoon, I was watering my little garden when I look d up to see him standing outside the fence. He’d lost a lot of weight and looked haggard-no trace of his former high spirits remained.

He just stood there, staring at me with eyes full of regret and pain.

I ignored him and turned back to watering my beloved rose

“Elena.” He finally couldn’t help himself, speaking with a horse voice.

I acted as if I hadn’t heard, picking up pruning shears to trim the branches.

He pushed open the fence gate and walked toward me step by step.

“Elena, I know I was wrong. I really know I was wrong.”

He stood before me, his voice choking with tears.

“Give me another chance, please? Let’s start over.”

I put down the shears and finally looked at him directly.

“Adrian Cross, we’re finished.”

“We’re not finished!” He stepped forward excitedly, trying to grab my hands.

“As long as you haven’t remarried, we’re not finished! Elena I swear I’ve cut all ties with Victoria. From now on, you’re the only person in my world!”

“Please, come home with me.” He was practically begging.

Looking at his pathetic state, I felt nothing-not even a ripple of emotion.

I almost found it ridiculous. If he’d known this would happen, why did it at all?

“Home?” I laughed softly. “Which home? The one with Victoria Sterling’s name on the deed?”

My words left him pale and speechless.

“Elena, I admit that was a bastard move. I wronged you.”
