Gold Digger vs Gold Saver My Man's Double Life novel Chapter 41

Chapter 2

The word “done” came out of nowhere. My heart skipped, then started racing.

I dug my nails into my palm.

“So it’s your fault, right?”

“If we split, you’ll admit you screwed up, right?”

Finn stared at me.

He was good-looking. Better than anyone I’d ever met.

I loved looking at him.

Especially in bed, looking up at him, watching his eyes go hazy, hearing him breathe hard.

Those moments made me forget everything.

Divorce? Kind of a waste.

But also… not impossible.

“So you want out?”

I nodded. Pointed at the door. “Things are this messy. Not much choice.”

“Just… with my mom, you’ll say it was your fault, right?”

I needed to hear it again.

Finn’s face went cold.

That distant look? Yeah, that stung.

But I knew how to deal with feelings like that.

Deep breath in. Let it out. Done.

Finn stood up. Brushed off his suit.

“Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.”

Okay. Good.

“If we’re splitting, I don’t want much. Just Twilight Pharma.

“Fine.”

“But maybe a house too?”

“Sure.”

“And… three hundred million?”

Finn turned around. Stared.

“You want everything and still wanna leave?”

“Stay married and it’s all yours anyway.”

I looked down. Tapped my foot.

What was I supposed to say?

Don’t cheat then!

If you hadn’t cheated, we wouldn’t be here.

If we weren’t divorcing, you’d still have a wife and kid.

Wait.

Even after cheating and divorcing, he’d still end up with a wife and kid.

Damn.

Businessmen. Always doing the math.

The woman got sent away.

Whatever they talked about, whatever he promised her-no idea.

By the time I came out, she was gone.

So were all the good cookies.

I stared at the empty plate.

Walking out, I couldn’t help it. Stopped his assistant.

“Hey-those cookies? Can you pack me some?”

The guy looked like he was dying inside.

Behind me, Finn laughed. That cold, mean kind.

“Pack them.”

The whole mess spread fast.

By evening. Mom was already calling.

First call-didn’t pick up.

Second call-nope.

Third call-I stared at the phone, then tossed it in the sink.

Finally. Peace.

But I also figured something out: I was keeping this baby.

This kid would have half my DNA, grow inside me, and become a whole new person.

We’d share blood.

This was gonna be my family.

Why wouldn’t I keep him?

Yeah. I was keeping him.

That decision made me feel good.

I opened the forty-thousand-dollar wine from the cabinet.

Can pregnant women drink?

Not really?

Well… just a little, right?

Cheers!

At eight, Mom showed up.

The pounding on the door was insane.

Good thing I lived alone in Beacon Hill. No neighbors to complain.

I put on headphones and maxed out the volume.

But still heard her yelling faintly.

Couldn’t make out words, but I could guess: “Stella’s useless” and “What’s the point of Stella?”

Nothing new. Nothing creative. Still didn’t wanna hear it.

Eventually the noise stopped.

Then my bedroom door opened.

Finn pulled off my headphones.
