Chapter 449 Waiting for You
“What happened?” Tallulah’s heart hammered in her chest as she saw Matthias fuming. She hurriedly grabbed the secretary and asked.
The secretary glanced at Matthias, saw he was too distracted to notice, and whispered, “Lab 709 suddenly wants to end all collaboration with us.”
Tallulah blurted out in disbelief, “What?”
Her eyes nearly popped out of her head.
‘How could this happen right now?’ Tallulah thought.
‘That girl just said Reed Group would be in big trouble, and now it’s actually happening?’ Tallulah thought.
Tallulah was sweating profusely, her flawless makeup starting to run, and her breathing grew rapid. “Is it really that serious?”
The secretary was speechless.
She shot Tallulah a look.
The secretary said, “It involves over seven hundred patents, all of which are for our main production lines. If Mr. Reed can’t negotiate a deal, Reed Group will be stripped bare inside and out. Do you think that’s a big deal?”
Tallulah was floored.
“How can Lab 709 do this? Isn’t that just shameless?” Tallulah blurted out, her voice rising in panic.
The secretary was speechless.
She thought, ‘Whoever controlled the exclusive patents and tech called all the shots. Who cares if they’re playing dirty?
‘What can you do about it?’
Matthias slammed his fist down on the desk with a bang, and Tallulah instinctively clapped her hands over her ears in fright.
His knuckles split open on impact, blood instantly gushing out.
“Money’s not an issue for you guys, but you’d rather pay the penalty just to cut ties with us. You’ve got to give me a reason!” Matthias demanded.
Matthias just wanted to know exactly how and why he was being taken down.
Tallulah stared at Matthias’s hand, blood dripping onto the floor, and stood frozen, not even daring to breathe. She had no idea what the person on the other end was saying, but then Matthias’s expression suddenly changed to one of surprise.
He suddenly raised his voice, “What did you say? The head of Lab 709 asked me to call him directly.”
Matthias could feel his heart racing in his chest.
Matthias said, “Alright, alright, thank you!”
While waiting, Matthias paced anxiously around his desk, his phone nearly slipping from his sweaty grip. “Honey…” Tallulah hesitated, unsure if she should tell him about being fired both last night and today, or ask him to look into that strange girl.
But Matthias just shot her an impatient look, signaling her to be quiet.
He had no interest in whatever Tallulah wanted to say right now.
Just then, his phone buzzed.
A text message popped up.
Matthias grabbed his phone like it was his lifeline, not caring about the pain in his bleeding hand. He took a couple of deep breaths and dialed the number, his heart noudag in his chest with every ring.

Chapter 449 Waiting for You
He had no clue why Lab 709 would suddenly pull the plug, or why the mysterious head wanted him to call directly. His mind was all over the place until the call finally connected and snapped him back to reality. Mattias said, “Hello, this is Matthias from Reed Group. Am I speaking to the head of Lab 709?” Matthias stammered, his slicked-back hair damp with sweat. “I’m really glad to be speaking with you directly. I…”
He was practically groveling.
But a calm, unimpressed female voice cut him off without missing a beat. “Get to the point.”
It sounded like she was in a car.
The engine was roaring in the background.
Matthias was left speechless.
His words died in his throat, and he just stood there, stunned.
He blinked.
‘Is there something wrong with my ears?’ he thought.
‘Did I call the wrong number?’ he thought.
‘Why does she sound so young?’ Matthias thought, surprised.
‘Wait, is that a woman?’ he wondered, even more confused.
He pondered for a while.
He said, “I… I just want to ask, why did you order to end our years of partnership? Did we do something wrong at Reed Group? If there’s a problem, we can fix it, really…”
But the woman cut him off again. “I’ll be waiting for you at the Porter residence.”
With that, she hung up.
‘Wait, what?’ Matthias thought, completely thrown off.
‘The Porter family?’ he thought, his mind spinning.
‘Which Porter family does she mean?’ he wondered.
‘The Porter family from Jaffina? The one set to marry Jaxon?’ Matthias thought, his mind spinning.
‘Why would the head of Lab 709 want to meet me there?’ he wondered, completely baffled.
One question after another hit Matthias like thunderbolts, leaving him dazed and unable to process anything for a long moment.
“Mr. Reed?” the secretary called out softly.
“Matthias, what did they say?” Tallulah pressed, her voice full of anxiety.
Matthias stammered, “She… she said she’d be waiting for me at the Porter residence?”
‘The Porter family?’ Matthias thought, still in disbelief.
Tallulah and the secretary both stared in shock. ‘Why the Porter family, of all places?’ they wondered.
Meanwhile, outside the Porter residence, the ornate iron gates were firmly shut.
The iron gates stood closed, keeping out any unwanted guests.
Inside the villa, the party was in full swing.
Cassie, her radiant pale face impossible to ignore, leaned lazily against the hood of her black off-road vehicle. The mix of her fierce ride and jaw-dropping looks had the Porter family’s security guards itching to get closer, unable to tear their eyes away.
“Ms. Porter, Ms. Eulalia Porter asked us to remind you, this isn’t your home,” one of the guards said with a mocking grin, clearly trying to give her a hard time.
Suddenly, the thunderous roar of engines ripped through the air. The guards, who’d been swaggering around just seconds before, froze and whipped their heads toward the far end of the ornate gates.

Chapter 449 Waiting for You
There, a convoy of jet-black, custom Hummer H2s, each worth a fortune, stormed up to the Porter residence. Their sleek, luxury frames gleamed with a cold, intimidating light under the sun, leaving everyone stunned.
All the guards just stared, speechless.
Everyone exchanged awkward glances.
The cars screeched to a stop.
The driver’s door of the lead Hummer swung open, and a stone-faced girl with her sleeves rolled up stepped out. Cassie’s eyes instantly lit up when she saw her.
“Babe, you finally made it,” Cassie purred, melting into Stella like a lazy cat, her lips pouting like rose petals.” They’re bullying me, I’m so miserable!”
Stella froze.
Behind them, a swarm of burly men in black suits poured out of the cars, their sheer presence sending a chill through the crowd.
They lined up behind Stella, eyes fixed on the gates, exuding a deadly, intimidating energy.
“Who are you people? If you try anything funny, I’m calling the cops!” one of the guards shouted, trying to sound tough.
The guards were warning.
