“Please, make yourself comfortable here and let me know if you need anything. The room heater is on medium mode but if you feel colder at night, you can increase it.” Alice said.

I looked around the room. Lena was already fast asleep on the bed.

“Thank you, Alice. Please, go and rest. You have been running around throughout the day.” I said because I felt hesitated.

“Don’t be silly. I am actually happy to have you all here. This place feels lonely after sunset. Eliot spends most of his time at barn or around the farms whenever we stay here.” She said.

I could see her happiness. We had known each other only for four years but she had always treated us warmly.

“Thank you for having us here for the night. It was a great day for the kids.” I said.

“You’re always invited here. Now, rest. I will send Lucas inside. He is inseparable from Eliot.” She said and before I could respond, she walked out of the room.

I sighed and looked around. The room was neatly arranged.

The night stay wad unexpected. We didn’t realise that we were getting late and by the time we left the carnival, it was already night. I wasn’t habitual to drive after sunset on such altitude and curvy roads so Alice insisted that we stay for the night and

leave at dawn.

I didn’t refuse because both kids and Kelly were tired after a hectic day.

A few minutes later, Lucas walked into the room. He looked happy.

“Brush your teeth before going to bed, Luke.” I reminded him even though he was a responsible kid.

“Mom, I don’t sleep before brushing my teeth.” He rolled his eyes and went to the bathroom.

I plopped on one side and opened my phone to read important mails. The company was thriving slowly. Logan couldn’t reach me because the company wasn’t very big and we mostly sold online.

It was much easier to carry out all the work without coming into limelight.

“Mom, you came here to relax and now you are working again. Please, give yourself a break.” Lucas lectured me.

I put my phone on the night stand and smiled at my son who was frowning at me.

“I am sorry, baby. They were related to new orders but I am done now.” I replied.

There was a moment of silence between us but I could tell that he wanted to ask for me to initiate the conversation.

“Just spill it, Luke.” I raised my brow and he bit his lips.

“It’s not important, Mom. You can rest now.” He shook his head.

“Come on, Lucas. It’s written all over your face that you want to talk about something but you’re afraid that I might be upset. I know you, son.” I said with an encouraging smile.

“Mom, Eliot really likes you.” He said.

I tilted my head to glance at my son.

“Lucas, you know I am not interested in him in that way. How did you get this idea? Did Eliot say something about regarding this?” I asked him.

“It’s obvious and we all know that he likes you.” He responded.

“Lucas, I know you want to see me happy but I am happy being single. I have you and Lena and that’s enough for me ” I was honest with my reply.

“Mom, do you still love Dad?” He asked me straight.

I couldn’t lie to my son.

“Yes, I still have some feelings for him but they’re not as strong as before. We had trust issues and I knew it would never work between us.” I answered.

There was again a moment of silence between us. I like these kinds of open conversations between us.

“Do you miss him? Lucas, I don’t want to be unfair with you. It has been a very long time. You love your Dad and I know you’ll again refuse to go back to him but-”

“Mom, if he’s back with Ms. Cowper then I don’t think I would want to go back and live with them. I love you and I feel bad when I think that he didn’t trust you.” His response came even before I could finish my sentence.

“Still, he’s your father and he might hate me for separating you from him. It has been four years.” I said.
