Logan
To say I wasn’t nervous would be a lie because I was feeling the same jitters inside me. I missed my kids terribly and there wasn’t a single moment when I didn’t want to see them, to hold them and tell them that they were my world.
Now the moment had come when I was going to see them after four years. Tessa took the precious time from me. I wasn’t there to see Lena growing, taking her first step or saying her first word.
Lucas must be grown up into a bigger boy.
I was dreading to face him actually because he chose Tessa over me which meant he thought I was wrong.
“We’re here. Park the car on the right side.”
Tessa’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts and I pulled the brakes in front of a small but beautiful house which had a garden in front.
“You own this house?” I asked.
“No, I am paying annual rent because I want to shift to a bigger house once I have enough money to buy the house I want.” She replied.
I didn’t respond because I got a clear idea of her plans in her words. She was planning to settle here permanently whereas I wanted to take her back home.
It’d be a long road ahead but I’d not give up easily.
She pressed the doorbell. I felt the same knot again building in my stomach. A few moments later, the door was opened by Kelly but when she saw me, her cheerful smile disappeared and her eyes widened in shock.
“Mr. Wilferd?” She gasped and gulped.
“Hello, Kelly. You look older now.” I greeted her normally because I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.
In a way, I was grateful to her. She took care of my family.
“Please, come inside.” She said recovering from the shock and stepped aside to give us space.
The homely feeling hit me as soon as I entered the small living room. I could see colours, scrapbooks and toys scattered on the carpeted floor. My heart leaped because they certainly belonged to my little girl.
“Please, give me a minute to clear this.” Kelly said and bend down to collect the colours.
“It’s fine, Kelly. Leave them there.” I stopped her.
“Kelly, go and bring Lena.” Tessa spoke, her voice was steady but I could sense the turmoil beneath her masked expressions.
“Mamma…you are home.”
I heard the same sleepy voice and my eyes followed the girl whom I met at the bakery. She was my daughter, my own flesh and blood. Her sleepy eyes shifted from her mother to me and they widened.
“My cinnamon cake uncle!” She exclaimed closing her mouth.
I chuckled hearing her nickname for me. My heart filled with so many emotions. The last time I remember her tiny frame snuggled in my arms. She was now a little human running around.
“Lena, please, come here.” Tessa said to her softly and the confused girl walked to her mother and sat on her lap but she was occassionally glancing at my direction.
I wanted to gather her in my arms so badly but I stayed composed because I didn’t want to overwhelm her.
“Mama, why cinnamon cake uncle is here? Is he your friend?” Lena looked up at her mother with curiosity.
My heartbeats paced up because I was anticipating Tessa’s next words.
“He is your Daddy, Lena.”
