Tessa
“Why did you not tell me about this back then? A criminal was so close to my family and I was unaware of the truth that he was sleeping with the woman whom I loved and wanted to marry so desperately?” He exclaimed.
I flinched on his last sentence even though it was in the past and we reconciled.
“You already have so much on your platter, your business and everything. Besides, we didn’t have concrete proofs to frame them and send them to jail. If they’d come out clean, it be a greater danger for us, for our kids.” I told him the reason.
“Tessa, I am not a coward. I have the power, the resources and money to put them on their right place.” He argued.
“Fear makes a person feeble, Logan. Our kids could be involved in their wicked games and I had to prioritize their safety over everything else.” I responded quietly and there was a heavy silence in the air.
“I am responsible for everything happened so far in everyone’s lives. I too blind to see their true colours, Tessa. There is no forgiveness for my mistakes.” His words were heavily laden with remorse.
I placed my hands on his shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze.
“It’s no one’s fault, especially not yours. You only showed them your good side, Logan. It was Raelynn who took advantage of you. Their sins are unforgivable.” I said.
His eyes met mine. I could see a depth of pain, grief and guilt.
“I am sorry, Tessa. Now, I have realized why you lost faith in me. I was the biggest failure in our marriage.” He shook his head passively.
“No, you were not. If you weren’t the man I saw as my life partner, I would have never married you on first place, Logan. Trust me, I am not saying this to make you feel better. This is the truth and I never regretted being married to you.” I said with a smile.
“Do you still want to stay married to me?” His question came out in a low whisper.
I had seen his weaker emotions very rarely.
Without giving it another thought, I pulled him for a hug. He needed it, we both needed it to compensate for the lost time. He wrapped his hands around me tightly after a few seconds of shock and buried his face in the crook of my neck.
“Don’t derogate yourself because you are not a bad person.” I hummed in his ear.
“I am glad you think this way about me.” He pressed his face more on my neck and I felt the tingles on my skin.
We pulled away when we both felt short of breath. My cheeks and ears heated up.
“I think we should stop now. I don’t want to ravage you here, in your office where anyone could walk in and see their boss in not so appropriate position.” He said looking down at our sitting position and I quickly climbed down from his lap.
I wanted the ground to open and swallow me alive.
“You don’t need to feel embarrass. We’re still married and we have the right on each other.” He grabbed my hand and gave a gentle pat.
I looked away to hide my flushed face.
“Want to grab lunch?” He asked me to ease the awkwardness.
I wanted to refuse but my stomach growled at the same time.
“I guess it’s a yes.” He stood up and removed the pencil from my hairs, “Go and freshen up. I will take you on a lunch date.”
