Goodbye, Mr. Ex-Husband, I Won't Come Back novel Chapter 168

Logan

“Sir, this is the laptop that we found and it’s clean. All the data are erased.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose as frustration seeped in. I again reached on a dead end.

“Okay, thank you but don’t stop here. Check the CCTV footage of the shops from where the photos were clicked.” I instructed my PI.

“We’re already looking into it but I advise you to be careful because if it’s someone from the past or the same person who plotted to kidnap your daughter then they must be planning it for a long time.” He advised me.

“I will and please, keep this information confidential. I can’t trust anyone in present. Life had taught me best lessons.” I said.

“I advise you to take extra security for tonight’s event. The controversy has is still hot and your enemy must be looking for another chance to target you and your wife.” He said.

“I have made all the precautionary arrangements but keep your eyes and ears open. I am paying you more than what is mentioned in our agreement to find my enemy.” I said as he prepared to leave.

“Don’t worry, Sir. I am not like your previous investigator, soon you’ll have the name.” He assured me and left.

I looked at my family photo that I always kept on my desk but I had added the recent one taken at the poolside on last Sunday.

A smile spread on my lips. Life was slowly coming on right track. I had peace, love and two adorable children who filled the hollowness inside the cold walls.

Tessa had her grand opening. The invitation cards were sent. Tessa proposed that we should postpone it but I insisted that we should do it on planned day.

Living bravely and carefree was what we had decided.

We invited Adrian and his sister as well. Their absence would make everyone question us more.

My phone chimed and I looked down. It was a text from the jewellery shop whom I ordered to customize a jewellery for Tessa. I wanted to gift her something special on her important day.

They sent me the picture of the ready jewellery. It’d be delivered before the party.

I wrapped my work and went home. The event organizers had handled the arrangements so we didn’t have to worry about anything. I just wanted it to be a memorable evening for Tessa.

I also called my mother and sister but they obviously refused to be a part of our celebration because they rejected Tessa as a part of our family.

“Daddy! See how do I look?” Lena, who was always the first to greet me when I stepped into our house, came running into my awaiting arms.

“You are looking like a real princess, Lenny.” I praised her.

It was a baby pink frilled dress and with braids, she looked like a little fairy.

“Thank you, Daddy.” She kissed my cheek.

“Give me only thirty minutes. Moreover, you will outshine me and your husband is born handsome.” I kissed her palm instead of kissing her forehead or lips. I didn’t want to ruin her makeup.

“Well, that’s true. My husband is very handsome.” She said.

I fished out the small jewellery box from my pocket and stepped closer to her.

“Tessa, this evening is very special for both of us and to mark our new beginning, I have something special prepared for you.” I said and opened the lid.

Her eyes lit up when she saw the bracelet I had designed for her with our initials engraved. It was a diamond and platinum jewellery.

“Thank you, Logan. It’s..it’s really beautiful.” Her voice choked.

“Not more than you, my love. Now give me your hand.” I said and locked it securely around her wrist.

She checked it many times.

“I love it.” She kissed my cheek, “I also have a surprise for you but you have to wait a little longer.” She whispered.

“A surprise? Don’t test my patience, Tessa.” I rolled my eyes.

“Very funny but this trick won’t work. You will receive it on right time.” She winked at me and then pushed me towards the bathroom, “Go and fresh up, we can’t be late in our own party.”
