Chapter 175 Could You Accept That?

Chapter 175 Could You Accept That?

Juliette paused, a bit startled. “No, that’s not what I meant. I just thought you might not be able to handle it.”

She’d been with Dustin for five years. They’d done everything a couple could do.

Colton stared at her for a while. “Juliette, you’re really heartless.”

After a brief pause, Juliette opened the car door and glanced back at him.

“I think it’s better if we don’t have lunch together today. Maybe you should cool off for a bit,” she said.

Juliette got out of the car and closed the door behind her.

Colton slammed on the gas, and the car shot off down the road.

Juliette had no appetite for lunch, so she went back to her office and sat alone.

Who knew how much time passed before she turned to look at Colton’s desk?

Work hours had already started, but Colton still hadn’t returned.

She opened her laptop and started writing her resignation letter.

Colton didn’t show up at the office all day, not even when work was over.

Juliette waited until most of her colleagues had left before heading out.

She didn’t usually care what people thought, but the odd stares from her coworkers really got on her nerves.

Instead of going back to Colton’s apartment, she went to her old place.

When she moved in with Colton, she never ended her lease. Deep down, she always figured things with Colton probably wouldn’t last, so she wanted something to fall back on.

She never told Colton that she still kept her old apartment.

Right now, they both needed to cool off.

* At the bar, Rhys snatched Colton’s glass away. “What are you doing? This isn’t the way to drown your sorrows. You’ll drink yourself to death.”

Colton’s face was cold. “Give me the glass.”

“No,” Rhys said.

“Give it to me!” Colton shouted.

“I’m only stopping you because we’re bros. You think I actually want to do this? Hey, quit grabbing, damn, you’ re strong!”

Colton managed to snatch the glass back again.

Rhys turned to Grayson. “Grayson, can you step in here?”

Grayson was sipping from a bottle of water, shooting them a glance.

Just when Rhys thought Grayson was going to ignore them, Grayson set down his water bottle, got up, took the glass from Colton, and pulled him back by the arm.

“Let’s get him home,” Grayson said.

Colton muttered, “I don’t wanna go home.”

Grayson shrugged, “I do. If I show up too late, Eloise will lock me out.”

Colton shot him a glare. “You’re messing with me, huh?”

Colton was already miserable, and Grayson just had to rub it in.

Grayson said, “Enough talk.”

Rhys hurried over and grabbed Colton’s of the thred Colton out of the bar and stuffed him

into Grayson’s car.

Rhys had been drinking too, so Grayson was the only one sober enough to drive.

They managed to get Colton upstairs.

Figuring Juliette was inside, they didn’t go in. They just pushed Colton inside and left.

Colton stood at the front door for a moment before heading to the bedroom.

He pushed open the bedroom door, but the bed was empty.

He frowned, turned to the guest room, and quietly opened the door. When he saw it was empty too, his face darkened.

‘Great, he thought.

‘She really is set on breaking up with me, huh?’

The next morning, Juliette woke up and reached for her phone first thing.

Not a single missed call. Not even a text.

Juliette let out a sigh, feeling disappointed. She put her phone aside and went to wash up.

When Juliette arrived at the office, she could feel all those weird looks from her coworkers following her every

step.

That drama from yesterday must’ve spread like wildfire around the office.

‘Damn Dustin. If only I could wring his neck, Juliette thought.

She paused at the office door, took a deep breath, then opened it and walked inside.

Colton was sitting in his chair, his expression stormy as he stared at her.

Her eyes darted, but she couldn’t help letting out a small sigh of relief.

She’d honestly thought Colton would be so pissed he wouldn’t even bother showing up today.

She walked in and closed the door behind her.

Juliette sat down at her desk, absently going through her tasks.

She could feel Colton’s gaze burning into her from across the room.

After half an hour, she finally couldn’t take it anymore and looked up at Colton.

“What are you staring at me for?” Juliette said, a bit impatient.

Colton just glared at her, silent.

Juliette shrugged. “If you’re so unhappy with me being here, I’ll just quit. And I’ll move out soon.”

Colton shot up from his chair and strode over, planting his hands on either armrest of her seat, towering over her. No, glaring down at her.

“Juliette, how can you be this cold?” he accused.

Juliette just looked up at him without saying a word.

‘How could he say I’m heartless?’ Juliette thought.

‘It’s because I do have a heart that I’m so scared of getting hurt again.”

Being with Colton had brought her a happiness she’d never felt before. She got to experience what it was like to be truly cared for, and it felt so wonderful.

But because it was so good, she was scared it would vanish in an instant. That’s why she guarded her heart so carefully.

But her heart had already been conquered.

‘Guess catching feelings really is nothing but trouble, she thought.

Colton grabbed her chin, his face intense and angry, but his touch was gentle. He couldn’t bring himself to hurt her.

“Juliette, I’ve been so good to you. How could you even think about breaking up with me?” he said, his voice low and wounded.

Juliette asked, “Can you accept that I spent five years with someone else?”

“Does it even matter if I can’t? I can’t help it. I’m into you,” Colton replied.

He wasn’t some naive kid who didn’t know anything.

The first time they got close, Juliette’s response told him everything he needed to know.

He knew Juliette had a romantic history, but everyone’s got their own private space. If she didn’t want to bring it up, he wasn’t going to push.

When Dustin knocked on Juliette’s door, Colton got suspicious right away.

If he really wanted to know what Juliette was hiding, he could’ve just picked up the phone and asked around.

But he never actually did it.

Juliette only really heard the first half of what Colton said, the part about not being able to accept it.

‘So he does mind, after all, she thought to herself.

Her feelings were a mess. She couldn’t even put them into words. She pushed his hand away and lowered her head.

Colton grabbed her chin again, a bit rougher this time, and pulled her in for a kiss.

She could taste the alcohol on his lips.

Juliette pushed him away. “Drinking already this early?”

His eyes were shadowed. “I drank last night.”

He’d had so much, it was still lingering this morning.

Colton leaned in and kissed her again, more desperately.
