The Myers family members pressed forward, trying to get a clearer view of the video playing on the phone. Frank even had Donald assist him in moving closer, stepping back slightly to take in the entire screen at once.
“My old friend… if only you could speak to me directly now,” Frank murmured, his voice thick with emotion, his body beginning to tremble anew.
On the screen, Charles‘ expression shifted. He drew a slow, visible breath, and everyone in the room could clearly hear the sigh before his voice, thin but steady, began to speak.
“In my lifetime, I’ve done things I am not proud of. When people speak of my wisdom or accomplishments, it shames me. For years I’ve lived with regret, hoping to atone in some measure. But alas… I have failed in my duties to this family.” Charles‘ voice grew softer, more reflective.
“I am an old man now, of little further use. When death comes, it holds no great terror for me. But what I cannot accept–what would deny me peace—is departing without seeing certain wrongs made right.” Charles lowered his head for a moment, then let out a shaky, resigned breath.
“Charles!” A deep, concerned male voice called from off–camera in the recording.
“Pay me no mind; I am alright. Let me finish what I must say.” Charles raised a hand, halting the unseen person’s approach. A tall figure moved briefly at the edge of the frame, only his back visible, features indistinct.
Charles on the screen gathered himself and continued.
“The fifty–one percent stake held in my name is to be entrusted entirely to Chloe Lewis for stewardship. The CEO of Myers Group will remain Arthur. He is to retain operational control. As the child and sole direct heir, his judgment is… lacking. He struggles to distinguish integrity from deceit. I fear entrusting the family’s future solely to him would risk its ruin. That is why I am not comfortable leaving the controlling shares in his hands. Should he prove himself capable of leading Myers Group forward with wisdom and principle, he will have earned my posthumous respect. Otherwise, if he fails in his stewardship or betrays the founding values of this company, Chloe will have the authority to assume the role of Chairperson.”
As these words filled the quiet room, a wave of stunned murmurs rippled through the crowd, and countless eyes instinctively flicked toward Arthur.
Hearing his grandfather deliver such a blunt assessment on video–what must Arthur be feeling, listening to it firsthand?
“Ahem… Myers Estate under my name–no one lives there anymore, yet so many still covet it.

That property is also to be transferred to Chloe’s care. This is my personal gift to her, a decision I settled in my heart from the day I came to truly know this young woman.”
Hearing this provision, the collective gaze in the room swiveled toward Madilyn.
The will Kevin possessed stated clearly that Myers Estate was bequeathed to her.
Two major clauses in a row directly contradicted the will that had been presented. What in the world was going on?
“Third, all real property held in my name is to be donated in its entirety to established charitable foundations, with the hope that it may do some good for others.” After saying this, Charles was seized by a fit of violent, wracking coughs.
The video ended abruptly there.
Chloe slowly lowered her phone. “This is a recording Charles made of his own volition. His mind was clear, and he was under no duress from anyone. This is the content of his true will. You have all heard it yourselves.”
She turned her focus to Madilyn, her tone pointed. “Convinced now, Madilyn?”
Madilyn clutched at Arthur’s arm, shrinking behind him as if for shelter. “Arthur, how could she do this? She’s… utterly ruthless.”
Arthur himself was still reeling, Charles‘ own words echoing in his mind.
Charles had said he lacked judgment. That he couldn’t tell right from wrong.
Is that truly what my grandfather had thought of me?
Where had he failed so completely?
“Arthur! Chloe is slandering me like this. Can’t you say something?” Madilyn tugged sharply at Arthur’s sleeve, pulling him back to the present.
Arthur snapped out of his daze, looking from his mother’s tear–streaked face to Chloe, who stood imposingly calm, like an avenging angel.
