Chapter 440 The Damning Cry

“You son of a bitch, how dare you…” The woman looked up, cursing, and in that instant, her eyes locked onto Madilyn standing ahead. Recognizing her, the woman gasped and cried out, “Mom-!”
“Shut your mouth!” the man beside her snapped, trying to cut her off, but it was too late–the word had already escaped.
That single word-“Mom“-sent a visible shockwave through the room, Charles included.
Madilyn stood frozen, her face drained of all color. She was utterly speechless.
As for the woman who had called out to her, Madilyn offered no acknowledgment.
“What… is the meaning of this?” Arthur stood rooted in place, his eyes darting between the bound man and woman on the floor and Madilyn beside him.
A furious, bewildered tremor ran through his voice.
Madilyn remained silent, offering no defense. She knew it was over–completely and utterly
over.
None of her secrets was safe now.
Realizing the gravity of her slip, the woman bowed her head and fell silent.
The man’s hands were secured behind his back. He took in the scene, and when his eyes briefly met Arthur’s, he quickly looked away, a flush of shame coloring his features.
“Madilyn, answer me!” Arthur demanded again, his roar rough and strained.
Madilyn averted her gaze, clinging to her silence.
“Answer me!”
“Stop shouting. The situation speaks for itself,” Chloe interjected coolly, cutting off Arthur’s outburst. “These two are Madilyn’s children. They were positioned to be the ultimate beneficiaries of her tampering with the will. The moment Charles‘ property titles fell into her hands, these two would have liquidated everything for cash.”
Arthur stared at the pair on the floor. Only then did he notice the man bore a faint, unsettling resemblance to him–especially around the eyes. That trace of similarity was all the confirmation he needed. He didn’t want to hear any more.
These two were Madilyn’s children. Her other children.

His mother, Madilyn, had been by his side throughout his childhood. He had always believed he was her only priority, that he owed her his obedience and devotion.
After his father’s death, that belief had only solidified.
Now, looking back on all those years–the subtle poison she had dripped into his ear, the coldness she had fostered toward Chloe–it had all conspired to wreck his marriage. And the architect of it all had been Madilyn, manipulating from the shadows.
Arthur was swallowed by a wave of bitter regret. Why had he ever listened to her?
If he hadn’t, perhaps none of this would have happened.
He had already lost Chloe. He felt as if he had lost his very soul. And now, it seemed the ground beneath his feet had been ripped away too.
Pathetic.
Arthur felt like the very definition of the word.
He had become a joke.
No wonder Landon had mocked him for his naivete.
No wonder Chloe had called him blind and heartless more than once.
Yes–he was blind. He couldn’t see people for who they truly were. His own mother was ruthless enough to kill his father, plot against his grandfather, and raise a separate family to siphon off the Myers fortune.
It was beyond absurd. Not even a soap opera would dare plot something this twisted.
“Arthur, you might consider them your brother and sister. Long before Madilyn targeted your father, she was already involved with someone else and had children–more than one.” Chloe’s voice grew sharper. “Madilyn orchestrated all of this not for you, but for them. If the shares had been successfully transferred to you, these two would have gained a legitimate foothold in Myers Group. You would have been left holding the bag, while they reaped the rewards.”
“Stop it!” Madilyn shrieked, then scrambled to explain. “Arthur, you are all my flesh and blood. You know how I’ve cared for you. I’m your mother–how could I ever wish you harm?
“They are my children, your… older siblings. I had them before I ever met your father. I couldn’t abandon them. All these years, I’ve tried to fulfill my duty to all of you. If I had the means, I’d want all my children to have good lives!”
