There were many wealthy men in the world, but this Eugene was particularly grating.

When Vincent saw Charles take Chloe’s hand and place it in Eugene’s on the screen, his expression turned to ice. In that moment, his simmering anger boiled over. The smirk that had been playing on his lips vanished, replaced by pure, unadulterated rage.
On the screen, Chloe was actually smiling. Faced with the man’s gesture, she didn’t pull away. Her smile was radiant, brighter than he had ever seen it.
His Clo–Clo had never smiled at him like that, yet she was offering such genuine warmth to this man named Eugene.
It was a look she hadn’t even given Arthur, her former husband!
Was his Clo–Clo falling in love?
“Interesting. I certainly didn’t see this coming.”
Vincent’s smile returned, sharper and more dangerous than before.
He pulled out his phone and dialed the number etched deep in his memory. The call connected almost instantly….
Vincent’s expression darkened, his mood sinking with each passing second. Just as his irritation was about to peak, the call was finally answered, and that familiar, cool voice came through.
“What is it?”
“My dear Clo–Clo, the Myers family affair is settled. My congratulations–you finished ten days ahead of schedule. The three–month deadline can be cut short. I’ll arrange a private jet immediately to bring you home.”
“I believe I was clear. When the three months are up, I will return on my own. Since you know there are still ten days left, I suggest you stay quiet until then.”
“Tsk tsk…” Vincent began to tease, but the call was abruptly disconnected.
His expression soured. Though the hang–up was swift, he had faintly caught another voice in the background–not Robert’s, but a man’s.
A man?
Who else could it be?
Eugene.
Hah!
“Bang-” The sound of shattering glass echoed through the room. Hearing the noise, bodyguards rushed in, concerned for Vincent’s safety. They found Vincent standing calmly by the floor–to–ceiling window, sipping a glass of red wine. There was no sign of an intruder.

A glance at the center of the room revealed the source–the large electronic screen was now a spiderweb of cracks.

After ending the call, Chloe stared at her phone for a long moment.
Vincent’s call had been a stark reminder–only ten days remained. Just ten more days.
With the Myers family crisis resolved and the Lewis family affairs stabilizing, she could finally walk away from it all.
Ten days–surely she could allow herself to let go, just a little?
“Who was that? You’ve been spacing out for a while.”
A man’s voice pulled her back to the present. Instinctively, she pocketed her phone and looked up at Eugene standing before her. She couldn’t help but laugh.
“You look utterly ridiculous right now!” At that moment, Eugene was holding a bulky bag of assorted snacks in one hand and a basket of fruit in the other. The sight was hilariously at odds with his impeccably tailored suit.
“Zachary is being discharged from the hospital. When he sets his mind on something, you know we have to indulge him,” Eugene explained with mock seriousness, adding that the snack bag also contained treats Robert favored.
Eugene was nothing if not thorough—but then, she had grown accustomed to his ways.
Zachary was being released today and had insisted on a proper celebration. While others might have a simple welcome home, he demanded a full–fledged “discharge feast” to mark the end of his medical ordeal.
Melinda had already booked the restaurant, and Chloe had agreed to attend. Oralia had gone to pick up Robert, while Eugene was driving her. On the way, Zachary had complained incessantly about craving junk food, lamenting how Melinda had “tortured” him by snacking right next to his hospital bed.
He needed to make up for lost time–with interest.
A five–star meal wouldn’t cut it; he wanted proper, guilty–pleasure snacks. Spicy sticks! Potato chips!
Hearing this, Eugene had made a special stop at the supermarket. Hence the slightly undignified haul.
“We should get going. We don’t want to be late.”
