“A crowded place is the best camouflage, don’t you think?” The woman with the scarf smiled, seeming rather pleased with her choice.

“Just tell me what you found,” the other woman shot back, her expression turning stern. “Carolyn, don’t try to play games with me. Remember your position. Don’t forget the situation you’re in.”

“What’s with the attitude? I contacted you as soon as I had something, didn’t I?” The woman lowered her scarf just enough to reveal half her face. It was Carolyn, who hadn’t been seen in some time. The other was Jennifer.

Jennifer’s eyes showed no particular emotion. She pretended to browse casually, pushing her cart and carefully examining the shelves. Her calm demeanor contrasted sharply with Carolyn, who stood with her back slightly turned, hurriedly tossing items into her basket.

“Out with it!” Jennifer urged impatiently. Carolyn kept selecting things without pause. What was she here for, really?

Was this a shopping trip or an intelligence exchange?

“You were right. Chloe and Charles… Their relationship isn’t just ordinary,” Carolyn said, quickly adding some expensive imported snacks to her haul.

Hearing this, Jennifer’s focus sharpened, her grip tightening on the cart handle.

“Go on.”

“Chloe and Charles share a secret. Chloe once saved Charles‘ life–a genuine life–and–death situation. I don’t know the details, but it seems some… organization is after Chloe, and Charles has been protecting her from them.”

“What organization? Who exactly are they?” Jennifer pressed.

“If I knew, I’d tell you. I only caught fragments of their conversation,” Carolyn muttered under her breath. “Do you have any idea how hard it was to disguise myself as part of the estate staff and sneak in? I was on edge the whole time, terrified someone would strike up a conversation and blow my cover.”

Jennifer ignored Carolyn’s complaining. She was too busy processing the implications. An organization was after Chloe? Serious enough to worry Charles–that meant they were powerful.

Who could it be?

As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. She very much wanted to know who this “organization”

was.

If she could make contact, and if they shared the goal of bringing Chloe down, things would become much simpler.

“I also found out something else… quite interesting.”

Hearing this, Jennifer looked up at Carolyn.

“Heh, no need to rush. Good news is best savored,” Carolyn replied, her smile widening before she continued. “That child of Chloe’s–Robert… His father is some outside man. Definitely not Arthur’s.”

“What did you say?” Jennifer’s eyes widened in genuine shock.

“Jennifer, you should be thanking me. With Charles handing over most of the Myers fortune to Chloe, this is your best chance to turn the tables.” Carolyn suddenly stopped pushing her cart and threw a few high–end skincare items into it.

“Are you sure that boy is another man’s child?” A spark of fierce excitement flashed in Jennifer’s eyes.

“Whether it’s true or not, you can verify it with a test, can’t you? Jennifer, you’re Arthur’s wife. Finding out if that boy is his shouldn’t be too difficult, right?” Carolyn retorted, watching Jennifer’s reaction closely. A hint of smug satisfaction crept into her expression.

She hadn’t told Jennifer about Arthur’s infertility.

What Charles had confirmed personally couldn’t be false. Judging by Jennifer’s reaction, she clearly didn’t know.

Jennifer was quite something. She played the innocent, virtuous woman perfectly, but only Carolyn knew what she was really like underneath.

She couldn’t afford to fully trust this woman. She had to keep an ace up her sleeve.

If Jennifer could help her deal with Chloe, that was ideal. But when the time came, she couldn’t let Jennifer have any lasting leverage. She needed an insurance policy.

The child in Jennifer’s own belly was the real illegitimate one. Right now, she alone knew that.

This was her ticket to staying safe.

Why would she reveal everything so easily?

“This information is useful,” Jennifer said flatly. Noticing they had reached the checkout lanes, Jennifer- who had put nothing in her own cart–let go of the handle. She adjusted her sunglasses and made to leave.

“Wait!”

Carolyn’s voice came from behind. Jennifer turned to look at her, lowering her voice. “Is there something else you haven’t told me?”
