“Okay. I understand.” Chloe’s voice was quiet, her expression almost eerily calm–as if the massive wave of public backlash crashing around her had nothing to do with her at all.

Once the online conversation started, it only gained momentum. There was no sign of it slowing down.

Media crews had already set up camp outside the Lewis Group and Myers Group headquarters, hoping to catch someone–anyone–willing to talk.

Chloe stayed silent, and the internet kept hurling insults. Some tabloids started live–streaming outside both buildings, trying to get footage of Chloc showing up.

With her positions in both companies, it wasn’t like she could just disappear and avoid showing her face.

“What’s Arthur’s position on this?”

Melinda sat on the sofa, arms crossed. Her expression was unreadable, but calm.

Right–what was Arthur doing about this? Oralia looked at Zachary, waiting.

“At first, Arthur wanted to hold a press conference. He was going to publicly state that Robert is his child But the Myers Group shareholders shut that down.” Zachary shrugged helplessly. “And then Jennifer made a statement–as Arthur’s wife. She said Myers family assets should go to the rightful heir.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s next–level manipulation.” Melinda dropped her cool facade, hands on her hips. “That woman’s not just a snake–she’s a full–on manipulator. The kind who plays innocent while stabbing you in the back.”

Melinda was furious, fists clenched like she wanted to hit something.

“Exactly. Jennifer’s probably behind all of this. Out of nowhere, the whole narrative flipped. People online don’t bother checking facts or thinking–they just follow the crowd and trash Chloe left and right. A bunch of sheep.”

“Jennifer publicly announced she’s pregnant with Arthur’s child–over three months along. She even shared test results as proof. Now the Myers family elders and the shareholders are openly backing her. They’ve banded together to go to Charles, demanding he reverse his earlier decisions. Take back the shares and hand them to whoever ‘deserves‘ them.”

Zachary sighed, looking worn out. “Arthur’s in a rough spot. His own word carries less weight than hers.”

“Got to hand it to Jennifer. She knows how to play people. If this were a different era, she’d be the type who brings down empires–completely toxic.” Oralia glanced at Chloe, who had been sitting quietly by the floor–to–ceiling window, soaking in the sunlight.

“Chloe. It’s been two days. The backlash is all aimed at you, and legal papers are probably on their way. Are you really not going to respond?” Oralia’s voice grew more urgent. “Arthur can’t even help himself right now, let alone you. That woman brought this on herself–why leave her any way out?”
